View 6 Replies View RelatedTitle pretty much says it all. I was working fine this morning on f15. Did an update and am now getting the above message. Have no internet access from affected machine. Running "NetworkManager" or "systemctl enable NetworkManager.service" does not fix the issue. Anyone else get this today? I know there was a similar known bug during pre-release.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter a recent update of fedora 15 (2 days ago) I lost my networkmanager icon in top panel completely. Then I check network manager version & found it's version 0.8.0.9997-5.git20110702. After this update I can't connect to internet by any means either via wired or wireless connection. When I try to open Network option from system settings it giving me an error: System network services are not compatible with this version.
I also try to open network-connection-editor by pressing Alt+F2 & typing:
nm-connection-editor
But it not works as well, I can't see any existing network connection there, moreover I can't even manually add any type of network connection there including mobile broadband! Then I do some googling from my windows machine & found this thread- [URL]. According to this thread I try to do downgrading of following 3 packages-
Code:
networkmanager
networkmanager-glib
networkmanager-gnome
But I can't downgrade via yumex as there's no internt connection in fedora. so i do a trick of myself. yumex suggests me to downgrade them to previous version 0.8.0.999-2.git20110509
so i manually download those 3 packages from my windows machine & copy them to /var/cache/yum/... folder. After that I do downgrading via yumex. But even after downgrading problem isn't solved. Same things happening still. No networkmanager icon in top panel & no internet
at present, there's no internet connection in my fedora 15 machine & I'm writing this post from my windows machine.
Moreover when I give this command in terminal:
Code:
sudo service network start
it giving me FAILED status.
I have install windows XP and Fedora-14-X86_64 on dual boot, I want to run other OS on fedora by using Virtual machine. I have download and installed VirtaulBox-4.0.0 successfully but I cannot able to start it. I got error about Vbox driver not installed [error code:1908]. I have also installed DKMS package, but also didn't work.
Finally I found the actual problem was kernel not compatible with latest version of vbox and I need to update my kernel-headers. I also meet that solution by using command: yum install binutils gcc make patch libgomp glibc-headers glibc-devel kernel-headers kernel-devel and its work fine, this command download and install the kernel compatible VirtualBox-3.2.* and now its works fine.
But problem is that when I booting my PC, it shows 3 options for entering OS rather then 2.
1. Fedora-14 (2.6.35.10.74.X86_64) [which is new one/updated after using that command]
2. Fedora-14 (2.6.35.6.45fc14.X86_64) [which is new one/updated after using that command]
3. Other [windows XP]
How can i delete that old version- No.2?
which (printer+scanner) is compatible with linux and drivers are in repo's?
HP LaserJet Pro M1132
SAMSUNG SCX-3200
witch of them is better? better performance , ...?
I have been searching for ages for graphics drivers for my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics card. I have several software that need hardware accelerated 3D. I found several threads that deal with this issue, but none of them seems to help. I tried the following:

I rebooted after each one and I still cannot get any hardware accelerated 3D; it is as if I installed nothing.
I've got an Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter and it works perfectly in Ubuntu 9.04 to 10.04, but when I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 I had to restart my computer several times before the wireless card would start and I would be able to connect to any networks? I then changed to Fedora 14 and the problem was also present so I assumed the problem was my wireless card and not the operating system. However I recently wondered if it was the OS again and went back to 10.04 and my wireless card works flawlessly again. So I'm wondering if there was an update to the drivers in Ubuntu 10.10, and I assume Fedora 14 using the same version? How would I be able to see if they did change? And how would I be able to use the version of the drivers in Ubuntu 10.04 in 10.10 if it is the drivers what changed?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed the newest version of Ubuntu 10.10 with a dual boot with Windows 7. I like it, but I think I might need sound drivers. Flash content sounds seem to lag a lot, and it is kind of annoying. I am using an ASUS M2N68-AM SE2. I can't find the original CD. and even if I did have it, would it even work with Ubuntu? Where can I get a compatible version?

Last time I bought a new computer (I build them myself) I got a motherboard that had really poor linux support for a long time. Specifically the audio. I had to wait months before the kernel supported the on board audio chipset. That is exactly the situation I'm trying to avoid this time around.
I have some specific questions about "server motherboards" actually. I looked at a few models of server motherboards by intel, and some random models on newegg. I wasn't able to see much of a difference from regular desktop motherboard other than most had two sockets, and support for much more ram. These boards seem more popular with Linux users. Why?
AMD and Intel both have server CPUs as well. Some question, what's the difference?
To make this question more concrete, I was looking at this this motherboard. The main questions about it that I can't answer are:
Can I get a motherboard without on board raid and audio? I wanted to get a hardware raid controller and a PCI audio card. I thought a server motherboard would be cheaper and not have these "extras", since who wants an audio card on a server?
Where can I found out about Linux support for the components on this board? "Intel ICH10R", "Realtek ALC889", "Marvell 88E8056"
I'm buying this computer to work as a Linux desktop for a lot of compiling, coding and audio/video work, but I don't want to rule out the possibility of installing windows and playing some games at one point. (even if the last game I got has been sitting in its box unopened for almost a year). Is it a good idea to buy a "server motherboard" and play games on it, or are desktop boards better value for this?
The ultimate solution for me would be a motherboard that had GPL divers for onboard LAN, a single CPU socket, lots of PCI express and PCI. USB 3.0, and no fancy hard disk controllers since I'll be getting a separate one.
My computer is a Dell Dimension 2350 (all factory stuff inside besides RAM cards) with a Intel 845G (I'm almost positive but id have to check windows to see, Factory made also). how do i get my video drivers compatible wiith ubuntu? Oh and my ubuntu version is 10.04.Also does getting your graphics card to be read on ubuntu get you to use Visual Effects (None, Normal, Extra).. And is their a simple fix to the dispearring pointer in 10.04 ?

The actual nvidia driver version (260.1912) does not work for my laptop (a Sony Vaio F11 series type, see bottom of page [URL]), I would like to install an older version (e.g. 256.53). Up to now, I cannot figure out how to tell yum to pick up an older version. Is there a way to do this (because kmod-nvidia is a meta package, there may be problems?), or do I have to install 256.53 manually (using the installer provided by nvidia)?

The system I am installing to should prove no hassle, but my biggest concern is my wireless card. It's a D-Link DWA-510 wireless card. Checking the D-Link website, they do not seem to have Linux-specific drivers available for that model, so I am wondering if there are compatible drivers available in Ubuntu?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have used Linux off and on over the years and had to go back to windows because of a problem I could not solve. That is no longer true and I have been using Linux (Ubuntu) for the last year or so and I consider it superior to other OS'S and a BIG thanks to all who contribute to make it so great and free. My question is that on some versions of Ubuntu some hardware might work fine(or an package for that matter)and in the next version it might not work. Are new drivers required for every new version? Do all driver work for all versions of Linux using the same kernel?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a fedora 11 with kernel package: kernel-PAE-2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11.i686
I would like to install the devel package for this kernel version, but I can't find it, because in the fedora repo there is only the original kernel (2.6.29.4....) and in the updates repo there is only the newest kernel package (2.6.30....)
Where can I find the packages which are between the fedora and update repos' versions?
According to this link [URL] , I should be able to install the package through experimental on Jessie.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've followed some instructions to patch, compile & install the ALSA git repository in order to make my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra to work properly. After installing and rebooting there is no sound and in fact, in the hardware tab in Sound Preferences there's no device shown. The problem exists only when I boot using the 2.6.35-23-generic kernel. When I boot using the 2.6.35-22-generic kernel there's no problem at all and I can still use my on board sound card (listed as Internal Audio in h/w tab), which was what I was using before installing the patched drivers.
Is there a way to restore the original 1.0.23 ALSA Driver? I tried compiling from source but I get compile errors. Also I've taken a backup of the /etc/ directory -among others- before installing, if that's any use.
if that's any use to you:

I have noticed kernel.org with kernel releases on the mainline.Example: 2.6.36-rc1 is currently on the mainline. What does it mean? Does it mean that feature changes been freezed.Does it mean "2.6.36-rc1 Released". I have job to verify vmware drivers to test the version information, Can I test it now through compiling for vmware drivers now. Lots of Git activity goes on after kernel comes on mainline. Does it mean our vmware drivers can only be tested after kernel if finally announced
