Fedora :: Installing Free And Non-free Repositories?
Jan 28, 2011
I've just installed Fedora 14 64bit and would like to add new repositories. I read here to do the following command (which as you can see doesn't works) :
Code:
$ su -c 'yum localinstall --nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm'
[code]....

I've got a question on free disk space. I'm currently running CentOS 5.5 on in Xenserver virtual environment. We've had an issue with disk space. My question is as follows: - from a ssh connection i run df -h this gives the value of 90% used leaving me with 9GB. If I use system monitor via a VNC connection the free disk space value is 20GB free on the same volume. Which one is correct? I do use SNMP to monitor the same volume and should alert me when < 10% is free I know this works as I set the alert threshold to < 90% I get an alert.

I am on a windows 7 system trying to install linux fedora 15.
I am using Fedora 15 live image which I burned onto a DVD and booted. According to instructions I've found in a tutorial I go into the system tools and choose install to harddrive. I have previously shrunk the windows system drive to free up approx 200 GB of unallocated space. I did this through the
control panel >> administrative tools >> computer management >> windows disk manager.
While I try to install fedora on the harddrive I run into two problems.
1. I can't install it because it says "no free space available to create partition". it doesn't matter if I choose the auto partition option or the custom partition option.
Choosing the custom partitioning option I don't know what partitions I need to create. Terminology such as LVM and PV are all new to me.
The second problem is that I am after some random time ( it occurs in different time intervals) forced to re-login as a live user which kills the installation program and forces me to re-start the installation process
Anyone have clues to solve these problems?

Am I asking too much for a FREE OS? Everybody spend their precious time to help others, that's very helpful. But it seems like there is no support from UBUNTU team, how could we even get through the barrier of not using Microsoft's OSes? No free lunch of course, but it seems to me some issues have never really been solved.I read lot's of people have problem with their WIFI, not just for my OLD USB wifi adapter. I don't have problem with WIFI in XP/Server.
I posted here and there, and seems like no answer, and I do not get any reply from UBUNTU support team, forgive me if I run out of google's keywords.I just need a simple answer, is my WIFI going to work in UBUNTU with a layman effort? I like linux and UBUNTU had put great effort in providing me such a great OS, but if a basic internet connection will need to spent sooo much time to setup, and it still doesn't work. IS IT WORTH to switch to UBUNTU at all

Here is the code, which just creates a dynamic array? fills it? and prints.
At the end-point? when doing 'free(digits);' I get a debug messge. But the programm continues to work, or it crashes only on free?
How do I need to change the source-code, not to recieve a message from debugger?

After my laptop crashed out a month ago, a friend of mine, who is kind of an expert in informatic, temporarily solved my problem (the pc wouldn't start, and I'd lost my installation cd). So, I am using ubuntu (not installed), while my files on vista can still be accessed (even though, sometimes, it will crash). Thing is, I wanted to install a game (call of duty), but none of the folders I can choose have enough space to install ( requires a little less that 5 GiB). Odd thing is I have 18 GIB unused in Vista partition and 87 GiB unused in another partition called Data. Then, how can I use some of this free space (at least 5 GIB so I can install the game)? Do I have to create a new partition? If so, how can I do it?

Okay so i have switched over from Ubuntu to Fedora13 as Ubuntu has constant hard-lock-ups for me for 3 versions straight now. Using fedora for less than a day and it's working smoothly, customised my look a bit and all that too.Only problem is F13 uses xorg1.8 and ATi's current drivers only support 1.7 and below, is there any way to get it to work with 1.8 by tricking it somehow?

I just wanted to post this really quick. I just installed Fedora 12 and I have been playing around with it a bit. (it's my first taste of Linux) I noticed right off the bat that I needed an MP3 decoder and was having a hard time finding one. Then I found a free Legal mp3 decoder at the following address. They also offer a Fedora specific installer (.rpm) So if anybody needs a decoder, here is a good one.Since it's a free decoder I was wondering if it might be included in future Fedora releases?

My HDD shows:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda5 416G 379G 16G 97% /media/Media
sda5 is formated as ext4 - Any thoughts why the numbers do not add up? 416-379 is not 16. I seem to be missing some free space.

how to find a free X display number?
I am using Xephyr to create a windowed session for logging in as another user. It needs its own X display, though. Obviously I can just give it :1.0 and hope for the best, that it would be better to identify the first free display and use that.
But I don't know how...

When we have Oracle 10g in RedHat, the free memory goes down soon after bootup of the system and never increases. I learnt from various forums that Linux does cache the disk files for the better performance. And when any application requires memory they get the memory and the caching does not block any memory. We want to capture the free memory available for one the harware planning activity.
1) When we use vmstat command, it gives very less free memory. since it caches large size files, the free memory is very low.
2) We tried free command, but how do we know how much actual free memory is available. i.e. excluding the cache usage

I have successfully added the Livna repository to my Fedora 13 using the following command
yum --nogpgcheck install [URL]
but I can not add add the rpmfusion repository with an apparently identical command
yum --nogpgcheck install [URL]
This is the result:
[root@euclide fcc]# yum --nogpgcheck install http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/...ble.noarch.rpm
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
Setting up Install Process
Cannot open: http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/...ble.noarch.rpm. Skipping.
Error: Nothing to do
[root@euclide fcc]#
I have read a similar thread in this forum, but I have not understood a single line of that discussion.
