OpenSUSE Hardware :: Canon MP250 Scanner And Printer Drivers / "Error During Device I/O"?

May 20, 2011

I am trying to get Canon MP250 printer and scanner working in OpenSUSE 11.3 and so far I've had limited success. Both components work up to a point, but aren't fully operational.First of all, I installed the drivers from Canon website for both parts of the multifunctional device. Here's the report on the versions (it's localised, but it shouldn't be hard to understand ).

The printer works for the most part. But it fails to set images to greyscale when I request the driver to. There are some guides about that for Ubuntu, but none for openSUSE that I could find. Also, what does the setting "Amount of Extension" in the printer options do?It would also be nice if I could set the printing quality as well. Right now it seems to print everything with the default quality setting, but personally I like using lower print quality since that saves ink and makes it a little faster.

The scanner, however, is hardly usable at all. If I try to use Canon's ScanGear MP to scan, I can hear that it operates the scanner, but the program itself freezes and after a while gives me the "Cannot communicate with scanner" error. On certain settings I can also hear that the scanner itself doesn't complete the scan (the indicator on it also reports an operation in progress, but it never gets completed). If I try to use Acquire images, the native KDE scanner application, I can get it to scan, but only on very specific settings: it must scan it in colour and the resolution must be equal to or over 300 dpi. If I try anything else, the resulting image file is completely blank or I get an "Error during device I/O". And, of course, it can't save PDF files.

Fedora :: Current Package In F12 Repo Not Include Drivers For MP270

Dec 17, 2010

I am trying to install printer drivers from canon (current package in F12 repo doesnt include drivers for MP270). These rpms have a few prequisites and testing those failed.

Code:
[root@fed cnijfilter-mp270series-3.20-1-i386-rpm]# ./install.sh
Canon Inkjet Printer Driver Ver.3.20-1 for Linux
Copyright CANON INC. 2001-2009

Execution command = rpm -Uvh ./packages/cnijfilter-common-3.20-1.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libpopt.so.0 is needed by cnijfilter-common-3.20-1.i386
However the relevant package (popt) IS installed.

Code:
[root@fed cnijfilter-mp270series-3.20-1-i386-rpm]# find / -name "libpopt*"
/lib64/libpopt.so.0.0.0
/lib64/libpopt.so.0
/usr/lib64/libpopt.so
Made a libpopt.so.0 symlink in /usr/lib64 too, to no avail.

Fedora Hardware :: HP Printer - HPLIP Driver In The Repo Doesn't Work Correctly

Apr 22, 2010

I recently had problems with my HP printer in Fedora 12, where as I never had a problem with it in any other distrubution.... For some reason, the HPLIP driver in the repo doesn't work correctly... I don't know why... but I kept getting errors with "error: Printer queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again."

I tried every suggestion I found... which was installing extra dependencies, disabling firewall, disabling SELinux and a whole bunch of other stuff... but nothing worked... THEN finally I decided to use the HPLIP driver from the HP website... it was a .run file... and I executed it, and my printer has worked perfect eversince..... my question is.... has anybody successfully installed their hp printer from the hplip driver in the repo's..??? I don't know why it didn't work for me, and i've seen other fedora users complain of the same thing? maybe theres something wrong with the package? or its not pulling in a needed dependency? I don't know...

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Locate Printer Drivers In Network Printer Setup?

Oct 19, 2010

I am trying to set uamsung clx2160N as a standalone network printer on my home network. It is a printer with standalone network capability and is connected directly to my router and has a static IP number. We have a few Windows computers at home and they had no problem detecting the printer, installing the drivers and working. Unfortunately my Ubuntu computer recognises the printer and I can even access it's setup and diagnositcs through its IP number. However when I try to add it as a printer, drivers for it cannot be located. #ve tried setting it up three ways:1. Using Samsung's own setup package - finds printer and all the details it needs to work but offers no drivers2. Using Ubuntu's printer setup - recognises printer but stalls at Searching for Drivers dialog3. Trying to *** printer using CUPS - no problem finding and recognising printer, but when I come to search for the driver I get Internal Server Error.

I have of course been trying to do all of these as root. That's the limit of my knowledge reached and searches on the net aren't helping me either. The printer works fine directly connected via USB, so the drivers are on the computer somewhere. How do I get them set up to use the printer on the network?

Fedora Hardware :: No Native Printer Drivers

Feb 3, 2011

I believe printers and printing are 2 most retarded things on this planet, completely useless and unnecessary.I haven't had one and never needed one, until now, as in my little retarded country bureaucratic and accounting reasons forced me to buy one, as I have my own company (and I really really hated to do it, but...) Whatever, I got Samsung SCX-4623F (and I will hate myself till end of my life to buy such retarded device), and now I can't seem to figure out how to get it started in Fedora 14. I dont need scanner, just printer. Naturally, there are no native drivers for linux, and I have cups installed and Printing tool in System->Administration doesnt do anything.

"lpr -Pprinter /etc/hosts" for example. This printer has activity seems to take the job but never print it then goes back to idle.So my question is, what specifications do I need to abide by when purchasing printers to work on my network?

Fedora Installation :: F15 Broke Proprietary Drivers For Printer

Jun 4, 2011

I heard that the new release would work smoothly and decided to install fc15 on 5 computers at once (four 64-bit AMDs running RAID and an old 32-bit Compaq laptop). I now have only 1 of 4 printers working. One was an old and slow but reliable HP6P and the others Samsungs of various ages. I tried the workaround suggested in another thread for the HP6P (using MAKEDEV to recognize the parallel port), but I'm still unable to install the printer--the installation hangs searching for a printer. And Fedora 15 has apparently broken the proprietary Samsung driver.

The only working printer at the moment is a Samsung 2250 (the oldest) which has an open source driver, and that one won't currently print from the internet (it used to under fc14). It's pretty sad when a new release breaks computers whose major function is effectively (or rather ineffectively) a typewriter. I've tried both local and network installations using Gnome, system-config-printer, and the Samsung Configurator, but nothing seems to work. I hope a fix is forthcoming from Red Hat, Samsung, or the readers soon. I need my typewriter.

Debian :: Symlinking Scanner/printer Through A LAN?

Aug 21, 2010

I have a laptop which I use for school and I have a scanner/printer that used to be near and I used to scan things and store them in the laptop via the scanner/printer's USB cable. In an attempt to make space to study more comfortably on my desk, I moved the scanner/printer near my gaming computer (on a desk that I don't use). What I want is to scan via my desktop (=gaming computer) and have it directly be stored in my laptop via a symlink and a LAN network. My desktop runs Squeeze and my laptop runs Lenny. One of my weakest points in computing is networks so I would very much appreciate it if someone could guide me through this process.

My laptop has an ethernet port and a wireless card whereas my desktop has a built-in ethernet port, a wireless PCI card as well as another ethernet port (PCI) which I am planning to install soon. For my laptop, I want wireless internet, and the wired connection to be to the desktop for the scanner/printer's purposes. As for the desktop, I want to connect to my internet via a wired ethernet connection and use my extra PCI ethernet port for the scanner/printer situation

Ubuntu :: Canon MX320 Scanner Not Able To Get The XSane Image Scanner To Recognize Scanner?

I was able to get the printer up and running by downloading the printer driver for debian linux (3.1) from the Canon site without any problems.

Unfortunately I am not having the same luck with the scanner.

I tried downloading ScanGear MP for Linux (deb) (1.3) from the same Canon site but have not yet been able to get the XSane Image Scanner to recognize this scanner driver for my Canon.

Ubuntu :: HP 2050 Printer With Scanner - Not Recognized

Mar 27, 2011

I have just bought and installed an HP 2050 printer-scanner-copier. The printer works fine, but the scanner is not recognised by Simple Scan or XSane.

Simple Scan states: No Scanners Detected

XSane Image Scanning Program states: No Devices Available

I have Ubuntu 10.10 - the Maverick Meercat installed on my computer.

I have downloaded the hplip-3.11.3a.run file from the HP website but it is still in my download folder and I don't know how to get it from the download folder to my computer and then once that is accomplished, I don't know what to type in the terminal to get this file installed.

Heck, I don't even know if this is what I should install to correct this problem or not.
