Fedora :: Error:Bad Device-uri Scheme "smb"

Jun 23, 2011

How should we install Samba printers in Fedora 15? The Gnome GUI fails. When trying through CUPS web interface, it spits out this error:Bad device-uri scheme "smb"!

EDIT: The default installation doesn't come with SAMBA installed.

Code:
yum install samba-client solved it for me. Maybe just "samba-common" also solves it.

Fedora :: Error: "Error 11: Unrecognize Device Strong

Mar 17, 2011

So I've tried some hours ago to install the new kernel 2.6.38 and when I did the reboot, it prompted this error: "Error 11: Unrecognize device strong

Press any key to continue..." I know this is such a general question but how to install the new kernel with Fedora 14? I think I did compiled and configured it ok and did something that wasn't recognized by grub or perhaps when I ran the command to make the new initrd.

Fedora :: 11: Sound Scheme On Login Screen?

Jun 29, 2009

I find system sounds distracting, so having recently installed F11 I've turned the sound theme to 'no sounds', which is fine. However, when I boot my system and get the GDM login screen, every time the password text input box gets focus, it emits a *really* loud low beep. I have no idea where to begin looking to customise the settings for GDM to disable all sounds.

Fedora :: Error 12: Invalid Device Requested - Win 7 + F11

Dec 4, 2009

I have installed Windows 7 followed by Fedora 11. Everytime I install Fedora 11 with Win 7, the first to boot, I get BOOTMGR missing. Later I used "df -h" command to see the disk file usage fdisk -l" to see the info regarding Disk Partitions. Went into the /boot/grub/menu.lst and modified the order. I set the partition where I find the bootmgr.exe.mui, there was another file named "memtest.exe.mui in the same file.

I navigated to the above said through Fedora 11. Located inside the Win 7 installed directory /boot/en-US/

When I changed the menu.lst file, I get a new error Error 12: Invalid device requested when I tried to boot Win 7. Does that mean that Fedora 11 GRUB is not getting the bootmgr.exe.mui since its 2 levels inside the boot directory ??

Fedora :: Usb 2-1: Device Descriptor Read/64, Error -62

Apr 23, 2010

I tried to get 3d hardware support in my FC12 install. I grabbed the latest appropriate drivers from the nvidia website for my Geforce 6800 XT graphics card. I changed the inittab file to boot to command line, ran the .run file as root and ran into a couple errors doing so.

I then proceeded to use yum (which i do like but this is a bad scenario for me thus far) to update my drivers to the suggested kmod-nvidia drivers that exist out there. Once all of the installation was completed I rebooted and got the following error displayed at the top of my screen after the fedora loading bubble disappeared. The system just seems to hand at this point....

"usb 2-1: device descriptor read/64, error -62"

I did a hard boot on the machine and tried again, this time i pressed the esc key to watch the interactive startup screen and noticed that after "enabling local filesysem quotas: [ OK ]" i get a

***Warning -- SELinux targeted policy relabel is required.
*** Relabeling could take a very long time, depending on file
*** system size and speed of hard drives.

This will continue with asterisks across the screen until eventually it stops and then I am stuck as to what to do from here on out. What could possibly be causing all of this mayhem?I have tried to use the fedora core 12 install cd to launch it into "rescue mode" and from the bash command line proceed with modifying my grub.conf to not use the "newly installed kernel (2.6.32.11-99.fc12.i686)" that was installed with yum during my kmod-nvidia driver installation.

Fedora :: Kernel: Buffer I/O Error On Device Dm-0, Logical Block 124

Nov 28, 2009

I have 2 hdds, with encrypted / and /home. Besides there are four other (encrypted ext4) partitions I use rarely. In Fedora 11 at boottime I gave the luks passphrase for / and home and the system booted as intended.

Whenever I needed those extra encrypted partitions I mounted them in Nautilus. Now, in Fedora 12 at boottime dracut tries to open all the encrypted partitions, / and /home are mounted fine, but opening all the other partitions gave the following messages in messages.log:

Quote:

dracut: luksOpen /dev/sdb6 luks-02a0e706-a26f-4019-a2a0-88a0366a994d
kernel: Buffer I/O error on device dm-0, logical block 124

kernel: Buffer I/O error on device dm-0, logical block 124
kernel: Buffer I/O error on device dm-0, logical block 124

[code]....

...and these messages are repeated with the other partiitions, and the boot time takes very, very long. How can I tell dracut to ignore those extra encrypted partitions at boottime?

Fedora Hardware :: Full Speed USB MSC Device Detected As Input Device?

Apr 7, 2011

I am working on an embedded system, which is an USB MSC device that supports some vendor specific scsi commands. I am using FC10 laptop as USB host for testing, and it runs some small apps based on sg3. All has been well for ~ a week. The FC10 laptop is able to communicate with the device and retrieve data. Suddenly, starting from today, the laptop is not able to properly detect the device. When plugged-in, the MSC device is detected as input device (I thought). This is observed from "dmesg" output and changes in "/dev/input/".The device under development is running at full speed. When I connect to winXP, no problem. A windows file explorer pops up, showing the content of the drive.Also, the FC10 has no problem with other USB flash drive (high speed).

Debian Installation :: Partitioning Scheme For GPT On A SSD

Sep 23, 2014

I have a Intel DH67CL motherboard with UEFI support(and updated to latest BIOS). I have connected a 180GB Intel 330 SSD into my system so as to install Debian testing.

Presently, a 160GB sata hard drive is connected along with SSD and is used to boot default OS.

1. I am planning to do GPT partitioning. I am totally new to GPT partitioning. from what I understands, It needs some mandatory partitions like ESP. My doubt is, in a SSD solely booting Linux, will I need to create separate /(root) and /home and /data partitions? Also, I plan to use /var/log and some other frequently updated directories moved into existing harddrive.

So, what is the partitioning order - is this fine - ESP(512MB), /boot(100MB), /(30GB), /home(50GB) and /DATA(50GB) and remaining 16-17GB for over provisioning for the SSD?

2. is there a need to have 128MB MSR(microsoft reserved) in the case of Linux

3. With gdisk or parted for creating partitions? how to verify if partitions are aligned. In GPT, only primary partitions are supported?

4. Some answers in askubuntu/superuser says ext4 is not really good for SSD, instead take JFS? is this true? Is Btrfs mature enough to use with Desktop system

5. Which bootloader? gdisk creator Roderick is pushing for rEFInd or gummyboot instead of GRUB2.

6. In my PC, 4GB RAM is available with a core i3 processor. Shall I mount /tmp in RAM? Will I need to specify the size of RAM when mounting using /etc/fstab? A size of 1GB is fine?

7. using deadline I/O Scheduler instead of CFQ?

Networking :: Configuration Of A Dual LAN Scheme?

Feb 3, 2011

I have a linux box called worx. Worx has two LAN ports (built in to the mobo). LAN1 (eth0) connects to the network. LAN2 (eth1) connects to MIC, a microscope controller. MIC never accesses the network. I need to be able to use worx to talk to MIC but I don't have my setup correct. The problem I have started via a corrupted filesystem that resulted in a lot of broken packages, including the LAN adapter drivers. I reinstalled the LAN drivers and all the networking utilities. Both adapters can now be used to access the interent if configured with DHCP so there's no issue with the hardware. I need worx to be able to connect to the network on LAN1 and the MIC on LAN2. The MIC is an XP machine that is configured with a static IP (159.159.159.2 in this case). I feel like I should be able to do this myself but for some reason nothing I've tried has worked.

------LAN1 (DHCP) -> internet
