View 1 RepliesI've been reading up on clustering a bit and want to create simple 2 machine cluster of which the 2nd one will turn on and take over traffic at the previous machine's IP (I'm aware there will be a couple minutes of downtime while the failover server boots). I've looked into doing a simple DNS round robin, but I think both machines would need to be online all the time for this to function correctly. I've also looked into linux-HA and GlusterFS but both seem a little intense for the simple failover I'm trying to achieve. One catch if approaching with DNS round robin... the server that I want to setup with a failover also operates as a DNS server. Anyone know the simplest way to complete this? One idea I had (that seemed like a bit of manual work): Create script that runs every 60 secs through CRON on firewall (running pfsense) and have it check if master-server is up. If it's not, it will send a WOL signal to the slave, which has a mirrored image of the first. the problem I have with that is I will also need to create a script to keep both synced properly which seems almost impossible if one is shut down until failover (my thought was periodic rsyncs.) Perhaps creating a FS to direct all files to for the master/slave would be the only way around that.

I experienced freeze with Fedora 12. I haven't had any issues up until now at all with stability in Fedora. Since then the problem has persisted with a freeze about once a week and then over the last few days it has started freezing daily. I thought at first that it was a problem with an update and that it would get sorted out with another update but that doesn't seem to be the case.
I installed FC12 within days of it's release and I've had no issues until now.
The odd thing is that the machine only freezes when I'm not using it. I suppose this is a good thing, but it makes it harder to figure out what is causing it.
The entire machine locks up and I'm unable to do anything but use the reset button and get the machine going again. I can not connect via SSH either as all network connections are being refused.
I have looked through the logs and can not find anything odd. There are no kernel panics and there are no Xorg errors.
I'm starting to wonder if this is a hardware issue, but the system drive was just installed in November and hasn't reported any errors when I check it.
This last time i managed to get it to install but it starts to load and the little Fedora hourglass fills up to the top and then it hard locks the machine. So.. I trashed the install and but ubuntu on.. but i wanted to give it another go, this time downloading the live CD rather then the DVD and see if i have better luck with it. My system is:

Physical Memory :12288MB (6 x 2048 DDR3-SDRAM )

I have no logs at this time since, i wiped the original install out, i am just finishing out the download of the live CD and will try again. The qustion is is something i have an ovious issue, like the 2 video cards or something incompatable etc?
My company's default OS is Windows 7. I convinced my manager so that I could use Fedora 12, since I am mostly familiar with development environment in Fedora. However there are a few things I need in Windows 7, and I want to stop going back and forth in two OS'es in dual boot-up setting.
I've searched online for easy way to use the existing Windows 7 as guest virtual machine. I first tried VMware's Vcenter Converter Standalone in Windows 7, but it failed with some error code, and searching the particular error code didn't turn up any solution. I also tried to use Sun's VirtualBox, but I get segmentation fault error in Fedora. I tried to see if VMware server has a tool, but installation exists with an error, and searching the web for the error code didn't turn up anything either.... I wonder if I am having this much difficulties because I am using x86_64 version of OS'es.
Anyhow, if anyone has done it successfully - using existing Windows 7 as guest virtual machine in x86_64 version of Fedora 12.
I am trying to build GFS2 cluster with 2 or 3 Fedora 14 nodes, but I've encountered some problems from the start. First luci does not work at all in Fedora 14. There is no luci_admin and even if I manage to start luci service, I get a blank white screen when I try to open it from the browser. I've googled a bit and found that I'd might be able to setup GFS if I manage to build cluster.conf manually and start the cluster suite, but I cannot find documentation on how to create cluster.conf anywhere. If anyone knows how to setup GFS2 without a cluster suite or how to configure cluster.conf.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter updating Ubuntu 10.04 I'm getting this error message. "Ubuntu is running in low graphics mode. Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module." I have a NVIDIA Geforce 220 video card and previously installed the NVIDIA drivers. All was working well until this last update. There are countless number of forum messages on how to fix this but my problem is compounded because when I get this message the machine appears to lock up.
It doesn't respond to any keyboard commands such as Ctrl-Alt-F1. I am not able to get to a command prompt at all. This was a fresh install of 10.04 so I believe it uses GRUB2 which automatically boots into the operating system with no menu. Is there a way to stop GRUB2 from automatically running the OS and giving me a menu? I really don't want to reinstall.
I can create users, but not create the directory of that user... Like /home/user
When I try to start session, I cant because the directory it doesnt exist...
I trying to create a Cluster Linux with two servers and one storage, I have mounted some filesystems in both servers, but, when I create a file on server (1), I don't see the file on server (2).
Is that a problem with the linux or storage configuration ?.
I'm probably dreaming, but I have a hobby project in mind that I would like feed I have an opportunity to purchase a 3 year old fully populated (14 x 3Ghz dual Xeon nodes) IBM bladecenter relatively inexpensively.I thought it would be fun to set it up as a beowulf cluster with open source xen and test the market to see what people would pay for Private virtual machines.
My thoughts are to use 64 bit Centos 5 as a base to get the beowulf cluster up and then load xen.I haven't really looked at the market but I figure I should be able to run 50 private virtual machines charging say $50 per month. I figure I can use rsync to backup the virtual machines to a different location. I plan to connect to linux based Network Storage running 3 x sata 1TB drives, probably via iSCSI. Along with the drive capacity currently on the blades I should get 2-3Tb online capacity over a Gbit network. (Cisco 14 + 4 network switch module)
I realise I have a bit of setup work to do and before I go investing a lot of time and a little money I'd appreciate some pragmatic advice as to why this may be a stupid venture.
Im having a frustrating issue with my two machine cluster I setup using Conga. Everything was working great except now when lucci starts mysql the port (3306) is never opened to outside machines. I can do a "ps -ef | grep mysql" and see it running as well as login to mysql on the node it is running on - but an nmap of the machine does not show the 3306 port and I cannot login to mysql remotely and yes I turned off all iptables(iptables,ip6tables) and SElinux is disabled.What am I missing here? If I start mysql on my own (and it is using the same my.cnf as lucci is) it does show the port open and works perfect,t for some reason when lucci starts it, no dice

I am now trying to set up a new read-only share with the username 'guest' and the password 'guest'. However, with no success so far! If I log on as 'guest' with the password 'guest' like so:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just install QEMU and virtual machine manager to use virtualization, but virt-manager cannot run properly. I can create a VM, then mount CDROM ISO, startup. With Windows installation, it runs well until format partition step, after that it is disconected and exit with error related to VNC. I dont know why have this problem cause the packages that I installed is from Fedora repo and I think they have been tested.

I had a lot of trouble installing Guest Additions within the Fedora 13 Guest on a Linux host. I had to mount the vboxGuestadditions.iso from the Device --> CD/DVD Devices menu. Then I located the appropriate package for my system. In my case it was the AMD64 Linux version.I ran this as administrator in Terminal. I used the "bash" command followed by the package name. This was after CDing the the appropriate directory. The packaged installed, I then rebooted and it worked fine. (Something that would make this easier is to load a script into nautilus that would allow me to open a locatation as administartor at the open window. I'm sure there is something in Fedora to do this but I couldn't find it in a hurry so I used the command line way).

My knowledge of networks is very limited. I have googled and googled how to print to cups from Windows. I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed and have a win 95 installed as a guest machine in Virtualbox. I have found hundreds of articles similar to this: [URL]. Every article talks about cups print server's ip address, which always seems to begin with 192.168. I'm not sure I have understood what the print server IP address is. Is it the same as the IP address I get every time I start my computer? In that case it would be problematic since it's a new address every time. If it's not the same, how can I find out the ip address of the cups.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows XP virtual machine under Virtualbox PUEL 3.1.2. I have always been able to browse the Web or do anything else I wanted over the network.
Suddenly, the guest XP machine can't reach the Internet any more. There is no indication of any problem with the network connection. I checked my router, and the virtual machine is indeed getting assigned an IP address. So why can't it reach the internet?
Yes, the virtual network adapter is in bridged mode. It always worked that way before. I can see local network shares from the virtual XP machine, and even reach the Apache server running on the host OS (Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit).
Also possibly significant: Even though the virtual XP machine is detected by the router & assigned an IP address, the printer attached to the virtual XP machine cannot be seen by another Windows machine (a real one, not virtual) on the network. I never had a problem sharing the printer before. I have to share it from a virtual Windows XP machine when I'm running Ubuntu because there are no Linux drivers available (it's a Winprinter).

I've set up ubuntu server 10.04 x64 with kvm and bridged networking and installed win server 2008 as a guest os. The guest os has full access to the network including lan/wan but the host os can only reach my lan and not the wan. This is true even when the guest machine is powered off?I have to admit that my knowledge of networking, particularly with respect to linux is very flakey but surely if the guest has internet access this should also apply to the host? My only suggestion is an issue with mac addresses but i don't know where to start. Has anybody ran into this problem before?
