my problem is on installing nvidia driver on fc12 32bit but, first of all, as i understood the pae kernel requires more than 4gb of ram,i have a 2.2 ghz cpu with 2 gb ram,but when i run command:uname -r it answers: 2.6.31.5-127.PAE [i have fc12 32 bit] when we try to download linux we have a 32bit edition or 64bit edition,do we have an edition which is only for pae? or when we install for example the 32bit edition on a computer with more than 4gb of ram then the kernel automatically will change to be a pae kernel??

My laptop has only 2GB of RAM so I don't think I need the PAE kernel, also there are some drivers that I want to install, they were built for non-PAE kernel.
So far I read that I have to change the :
/etc/sysconfig/kernel
---------
# UPDATEDEFAULT specifies if new-kernel-pkg should make
# new kernels the default
UPDATEDEFAULT=yes

I recently installed language packs for Japanese and changed my system language to it, too. The problem is, now that I try to go back to English, the locale doesn't change back, only the menus are in english. "Apply system wide" in the Language Support didn't do anything; Firefox is in japanese too. Here is my locale output:
LANG=ja_JP.utf8
LANGUAGE=en_US:en
LC_CTYPE="ja_JP.utf8"

When ssh-ing (using putty, if that's relevant), I sometimes mis-type my username, and hit enter before I realise my mistake. Once prompted for a password, is there a a way to go back and re-enter my username rather than having to close the console and open a new one?

I've noticed that on one of our servers apache is running on nice 19.Any idea where can I change it back to the default 15?I know I can change it on the apache startup script, but I thought it's probably better to change the default value that was probably changed somewhere.It is running as a service on startup.

Does anybody know how I can change the way the icons in my panel react when they need attention? For example if I get an IM, how can I adjust the way the IM box in the task bar acts? I put a new theme in I really like, but my IMs and other windows that would normally flash to show they need attention now do nothing, so I don't know when I get an IM or anything. Is there any way I can tweak that?

I've updated Ubuntu from 10.10 to 11.04 natty. and noticed a complete view change which I don't like. all my top bars with shorcuts are gone! Then I found a link natty-narwhal and tried this command as I thought it will return my old view :sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install unity-2das a result I got the same view but with a cairo-dock bug and a black box around it as it's in the picture:My question is: how can I get back my old 10.10 view without re-install ? is it possible? if no then other question: how can I get back at least natty 3d back ?

I know practically nothing about Linux but am trying to learn. I actually want to get certified Linux+. So I figure this forum would be a great resource. Anyway, I have a dual boot situation going on my laptop with Windows XP and Ubuntu, and am pretty frustrated that I seem to forced to use GRUB. I really dont feel like reinstalling. Is there a way to simply change it back to using the Windows bootloader?

When I first installed openSUSE 11.4 the /boot directory looked like this:
I had installed VirtualBox through Yast and decoded to delete. After deleting the /boot directory looked like this, pointing now to the desktop kernel.
I went into YAST and deleted all kernel entries that contained desktop, trying to get back to the original configuration.
After doing this, the /boot directory now looks like this.
Is there any way to get back to the original kernel configuration without having to do a complete installation?

I was trying to install google earth. This is what I did:1. Open a terminal and change to the directory where the installer downloaded to. (on desktop) :cd ~/Desktop2. Change the permissions on the installer so you can run it:chmod +x GoogleEarthLinux.bin3. Run the installer as the root user:sudo ./GoogleEarthLinux.bin4. The installer dialog will open. The default install paths work fine. Click Begin Install.Once the installation is finished you can click Start to launch Google Earth.HOW DO I CHANGE BACK TO THE CORRECT DIRECTORY IN THE TERMINAL

I recently tried to plug my laptop to a TV and adjusted the settings consequently. The thing is now that I want to use it with the laptop screen. I can barely see the first top inch... I'm pretty shure it has something to do with the display configuration since it works flawlessly when I log in as a guestIs there a way for me to reset the screen to it default config without using my regular session?

I did an adjustment or two, and then it has been just been hanging up using 100% CPU when it is loaded. When an application uses it to save a document, it does not hang.I created a Templates folder and assigned it with the user-dirs.I then changed the view of that particular directory from LIST to ICONS.And then it started to hang up.Somehow I was able to change the view back to LIST, but it still hangs up.

I've been fighting with this nearly for three hours, but nothing seems to be working. I have one Gigabit Realtek chip integrated on my Mainboard (which I use for internet connection), and one aditional 100Mbit in PCI slot. So, I basically want to use this 100Mbit for testing purposes, but when I connect something to this 100Mbit NIC adapter, it becomes default and I can not access internet. So, I want to set my eth0 (gigabit integrated adapter) as default adapter.
P.S. I've tried to edit /etc/network/interfaces and iftab, but nothing worked.

Had to restart following an extract crash, and upon restarting, much of my theme, including all my icons had changed. Prior to this I was using the Awoken Icon Set. I've gone through and rerun the Awoken Customization script, but no luck. Simply trying to change my theme, and icons in the theme manager doesn't work either.

I have an Asus/Intel setup with integrated graphics that has been running Unity no problem for a while. I temporarily installed a separate NVidia card to do some hardware compatibility testing for another system that apparently couldn't hack it for Unity and forced it back to Classic. With the Nvidia card removed and going back to the integrated video setup I can't seem to get Unity running again. At the login I've toggled back and forth between Ubuntu (Unity) and Classic to no avail. Is there some way to reactivate it?
