Fedora :: Can't Successfully View Anything With Browser As Described In Documentation
Mar 23, 2011
Fedora 14 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64 I have a few webcams I want to serve to web browsers. I downloaded webcam-server, compiled and installed it. Running webcam_server with the -a (test) option, it appears to be doing something. But when I try viewing it with the included Java applet, I get a core dump from the webcam_server process and error messages from the viewing applet. I also cannot successfully view anything with a browser as described in the documentation.

My problem was that I have a Logitech Squeezebox Boom Network Media Player. I was not able to use my browser to view the device BUT when it was connected to its internet account I was able to see it although not use it. I figured out that post 9000 which it used to communicate between the server software and the network player was blocked.
I looked into using iptables and also firewall but then I found an article explaining why an oracle program would not work with SELinux. I then had a quick look round SELinux and added a rule to the 'Network Port' list. I added port 9000 with a type of http_port_t.

I just installed AWStats on a new server and can't get perl to properly work as a cgi in apache. I've done this before and got it to work, and I've tried a couple suggestions found from google with no luck. When I try to access [URL] from my browser, Apache doesn't give any errors or anything, it just outputs the perl file in plain text, which implies that it's not handling the .pl file as a perl cgi, but I just don't know why.
Code:
<VirtualHost *:80>

ServerAlias www.mysite.com

I regularly use an online imageboard website, and as such I am constantly uploading images. Being new to the linux OS, I was quite familar with Microsoft Windows file explorer and its adaption with file uploading. However, it would seem that GNOME follows a different method and uses a separate file browser to a file uploader Here is my file browser and the various options available (icon size, icon view, bigger thumbnails):
And here is what I get when I upload files to a website: My question is, is there a workaround or package available to allow changeable icon sizes/thumbnails in the file uploader? The picture preview is good, but really isn't enough for what I require

I have configured Nagios Server and Client on my RHEL 5.4 machines using these links and help html files in tar balls.

I have this scenario.
Nagios Server - 192.168.1.200
Nagios Client - 192.168.1.201 (This is the remote-host I am trying to monitor)
I firmly believe I have at least configured it right as this command on Nagios Server does not show any errors.
/usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios -v /usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg

Does anyone know where to get documentation for KPackageKit? I've searched on KDEs web site and this forum without success. Also on Fedora.org and googling but nothing so far.I recently loaded this distro (F13) to try it out after using mostly openSUSE and some of the minimal distros. I'm finding there is quite a learning curve, even I started in linux with RedHat 5.1.

Everyone once in a while Google drives me nuts, this is one such case.Everything I have found from Fedora or Red Hat on stateless or even diskless implementations is old as dirt. Based on Fedora Core 4 or 7. Where is the updated or current documentation for Fedora 13 or 14? With everything going to clouds one would think stateless would be a hot topic again?At least diskless should be right?

I have a Fedora 11 distro running on a desktop machine. It has always reported a hard disk may be failing but have not had trouble with it for over a year. This past week, I had to reboot the machine and it took several tries before it succeeded. How can I replace the offending drive and save my current software installations and data?

Recently came across this system monitor for the desktop (in PartedMagic).I liked it,thought it would be fun to play with. It bills itself as being for Ubuntu, but it appears to be available through the Fedora repo.I'm just wondering if anyone is/has run it on their Fedora install? The Conky site doesn't appear to have any Fedora related documentation. Note, I'm not looking for instructions, just wondering if any Fedora users are actually running it.

I have ASUS ul80vt whitch has two GPUs, Intel + nvidia 210m
I read many articals explaining how to turn off the discrete graphics card, from these articles I didn't find any method that works on my laptop with fedora14 (updated)
However, by mixing the methods up I found a way to do this. I run the folowing commands as root after log in:
echo 'PEGR' > /proc/acpi/wakeup
chown mh3 /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
echo OFF > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
modprobe asus_nvidia
These commands do the job 100% (powertop shows at least 4W drop), but I don't know why this works!
the problem is that after running these commands my laptop becomes unable to suspend, when I do suspend the screen becomes black (backlight still on) and the laptop freezes. So I have to turn it off using power button.
Notice that Ubuntu users are able to turn off the discrete card only by modprobe asus_nvidia, and suspend works fine with them. See: [URL]
This issue force me to turn on/off my laptop more than 8 times a day. All what I want is to suspend and resume my laptop after turning off the discrete GPU.
Notes:
- For more info about the method I use: http://mh3soldier.blogspot.com/2010/...a-of-asus.html
- asus_nvidia is a module:
Quote:
#include <acpi/acpi.h>
#include <linux/suspend.h>
MODULE_LICENSE("GPL");
static acpi_handle root_handle;

i've been tryin to configure sendmail with cyrus to create a mail server that'll allow outlook users to connect to and download mails. I've done a lot of googling but so far no success have been able to configure sendmail with cyrus but can't connect the outlook to the server. I've come across certain documentation that says it requires to configure saslauthd. Is there any way i can create a mail server to which users can connect and download their mails. Shall i switch to postfix and dovecot instead? Is that easier?

I've dualboot system grubloader made by Mandriva. These lines in Mandriva menu.lst is for Fedora 13.Why is it that Fedora seldom managed to boot successfully in first time? Mostly i've to boot 3,4 even 5 times to reach the desktop. That blue&white line (kernel PAE) is always visible on bottom of screen but many times it stopped to black screen and no gnome cursor after that.

I didn't post this thread in the hardware section because I got my ATI propitiatory drivers installed successfully and my problem seems to be with KDE. I'm trying to enable Desktop Effects for KDE.
The story is that ATI drivers installed correctly but when I go to "Application Launcher" => "System Settings" => "Desktop Effects" I can't enable Desktop effects and it has the following message:
"Desktop effects are not available on this system due to the following technical issues:
Required X extensions (XComposite and XDamage) are not available."
First of all I don't really know what this means. I have done some Googling around and have found a few places suggesting that I should enable the "Damage" and "Composite" extensions in my xorg.conf. I have done that, as you can see in the attached Xorg.conf file. It still doesn't work.

I installed all necessary software I need, at least I think so. I have installed the following before trying to build ndiswrapperCode:make gcc kernel-syms kernel-dev kernel-source ndiswrapper-kmp-desktop Also tried installing linux-headers-`uname -r` as I did in Fedora, but in openSUSE it was not necessary.Here is the errors I get.Google could not help me this time so hopefully someone at this forum can.

How to install either Fedora 11 or 12 from the hard disk of this old ragged laptop? USB or CD installation are not an option, and since the documentation keeps crashing and I stagger saliently in the messy script that is hid behind the windows interface runtime gimmick, I would like to know which switches would make the rebooting operation take to reckognizing the linux package?
