Does anyone know where to get documentation for KPackageKit? I've searched on KDEs web site and this forum without success. Also on Fedora.org and googling but nothing so far.I recently loaded this distro (F13) to try it out after using mostly openSUSE and some of the minimal distros. I'm finding there is quite a learning curve, even I started in linux with RedHat 5.1.

I love Fedora and have been using Redhat since v5. I am using Fedora13 x86_64 and when I use kpackagekit if I use the dropdown list of groups it says waiting for service, then returns with no entries. I have done a yum clean all; yum clean metadata; yum clean dbcache; yum makecache

I can cancel (when there's a cancel button, but sometimes there's not) and yum runs just fine.Any advice on how to get this working? I hate hunting for the names of packages.

I disabled the Libna repo by setting enabled=0 in /etc/yum.repos.d/livna.repo, and have been able to update with Yum.KPackageKit fails on me now with the message "Failed to initialize backend. This may occur if other packaging tools are used simultaneously."Then it fails to finish, which causes me to reboot before I can use Yum successfully.Under Settings, I see no indication that it knows where the repositories are, and no way to add repos.

Failed to initialize packaging backend. This may occur if other packaging tools are being used simultaneously.
Details: There are unfinished transactions remaining. Please run yum-complete-transaction as root.
I don't know anything about other packaging tools - I think I don't using any. Yum works fine in terminal. Reinstall PackageKit and KPackageKit files doesn't helped me. I also try to rebuilt rpm db:
rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db*
rpm -vv --rebuilddb
yum clean all
I'm using Fedora 12 x86_64.
where to find documentation about procfs in fedora? I tried to use man 5 proc, and find some info in /usr/share/doc, but there is no info.

Running webcam_server with the -a (test) option, it appears to be doing something. But when I try viewing it with the included Java applet, I get a core dump from the webcam_server process and error messages from the viewing applet. I also cannot successfully view anything with a browser as described in the documentation.

Recently came across this system monitor for the desktop (in PartedMagic).I liked it,thought it would be fun to play with. It bills itself as being for Ubuntu, but it appears to be available through the Fedora repo.I'm just wondering if anyone is/has run it on their Fedora install? The Conky site doesn't appear to have any Fedora related documentation. Note, I'm not looking for instructions, just wondering if any Fedora users are actually running it.

I've done a lot of googling but so far no success have been able to configure sendmail with cyrus but can't connect the outlook to the server. I've come across certain documentation that says it requires to configure saslauthd. Is there any way i can create a mail server to which users can connect and download their mails. Shall i switch to postfix and dovecot instead? Is that easier?

Trying to install Frostwire as well as RPMFusion on Fedora 12 KDE.I simply just got an error from KPackageKit "An error occured." No additional details.I then tried to do the same with RPMFusion, where I also got the same error.I figured I'd ask here before I go any further. I know with Kubuntu I had some issues with particular packages with KPackageKit so I'd use GDebi for those. Should I do that here, or what's the proper protocol to get things like RPMFusion and Frostwire fired up?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy KPackageKit is not downloading any update, it shows updates, I click apply, I authenticate, then it asks me to accept an agreement, after which it returns to an empty KPackageKit (as if there were no updates). If I open it again, there are the possible updates again (naturally, since it didn't download anything).

It seems to stall, require a lot of intervention, fail, and generally not behave nicely. I would much prefer to use zypper manually as I used to but can't find anywhere to disable this applet or process in KDE. Is there any way of disabling this so that the process and systray icon never start?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe problem: when kpackagekit would prompt me to update packages, it would ask for my password. I would enter it, and the dialog would reject it with the message "incorrect password, please try again". Over and over. The password WAS correct -- it worked in Synaptic and on the command line using sudo, and obviously it also worked for logging in.
I suddenly had a hunch that kpackagekit might not be the culprit, and that authentication was being done by a different program -- and lo and behold, the dialog actually said policykit up there...
So, searching for policykit problems out there, I ended up seeing someone reinstalling theirs for their problem (which happened to be different from mine). The code to do that, in the command line:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall policykit
After that, entering the password after kpackagekit prompts me to has worked fine and the updates happen as nature intended.
I finally gave in and took the plunge - I upgraded from kubuntu 9.10 to 10.04. I knew better but I did it anyway. I got a few fglrx-related error messages during upgrade, but it was too late to do anything. Here's the problem - I can't update or download any software using either Kpackagekit or apt-get. If I try I get an error message about unmet dependencies.

I have installed Kubuntu Lucid x86 10.4 LTS for the first time. Has anyone got a link that explains how KPackageKit gets the IP address of the repositories? I can install packages using sudo apt-get install xxx OK . KpackageKit tells me I have updates from the repositories. I can select them all and apply , but I get an error that it can't find the repository under a 192.168.100.129:8080 address . Which is not a surprise . I am using mirror.optus.net as a repository and can ping it fine on the command line. So is there somewhere else that KPackageKit maps IP addreses ? I have tried another mirror mirror.aarnet.edu.au and got similar results. My local sub-net is not 192.168.100 and have tried setting fixed IP on the local sub-net and different DHCP addresses and still the same error.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe package manager runs when a user clicks on a .rpm file automatically. I tried clicking on it from a normal user dolphin window and it opened up but since it can't install to a /something directory, I had to run it as su. So I try to open dolphin as su and then click on my file. I see the package editor starting up (bouncy icon and a space in the panel) but it never actually pops up a window. Now when I click on the file from either user this is happening. What's going on? Is this a bug?
**update, it popped up from normal user after like 10x attempts and it said that the repository already exists and this is an unexpected error. what does that mean? what errors are "expected"?
10.04 - Installing splashy fails and consequently makes kpackagekit completely unuseable. Attempting to fix this with aptitude or 'sudo dpkg --force-overwrite --install' or 'sudo apt-get -f install' (as suggested elsewhere) brings me no joy either. Is there a fix so I can remove splashy and repair kpackagekit? How do I kill splashy so i can repair kpackagekit?

Another question is every time I click the accept button of the YaST2 window, it will install the packages and quit directly and never give any confirmation of the result. Is this normal?
The last question is when I use Amarok or qmmp to play music which be shared via Samba on my homeserver, the system always copy the music file to the local folder,/var/tmp, and then can begin to play rather than play it immediately by stream. Is this also normal?
