Fedora :: Booting F15 (64) Install DVD - System Hangs
Jun 3, 2011As most of us know when you start the machine with the Install Disc in the drive you get a menu that reads:
Welcome To Fedora 15!
Install a new system or upgrade an existing system
Install system with basic video driver
Rescue installed system
Boot from local drive
Memory test
But when you try to boot the install DVD on and EFI based Mac...you only get
Booting Fedora 15 in 3...2...1 ...and then the system hangs.
If any users are having trouble with Fedora Install Media...you can usually use the Install Media from a previous release! In this case, I used the Fedora 14 (64-Bit) disc to install Fedora 15 by simply replacing the 'F14' with a 'F15' in the URLs of the Install and Update repository dialog boxes.

Mar 31, 2010Having a problem with my system hanging after updating Fedora 12. Here are my system specs:
Gigabyte MA770-UD3 motherboard
AMD Phenom 9950 Quad Core
6 gig Corsair DDR 800
1 x 160 gig SATA (OS)
1 x 500 gig SATA (data)
I have my system configured for dual boot with Windows 7. After installing F12, I can reboot with no problem. However, after I install the kmod-nvidia drivers, my system hangs on reboot. If I press any key on the keyboard, it will start to load, the freeze until I press a key again. I have tried both Fedora 12 x64 and i386 with the same results. Here are the steps that I took to install the kmod-nvidia drivers code...
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

Mar 21, 2010I am using Ubuntu 9.10. Every time I try to reboot my system it hangs. Shutdowns work properly. I've done multiple re-installations. Nothing I've tried fixes the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Nov 22, 2010Just upgraded to 10.04 from 9.10. upgraded from update manager. System would not boot. Booted live cd and used the 9.10 menu.lst. Now boots but takes a long time. I don't know much about the kernel. I assume they are listed in the /boot directory and are called by menu.lst (dual boot w/ XP) (btw: I am ready to get rid of XP once I get this fixed). 9.10 appears to use 2.6.31-20-generic, therefore, I assume 10.04 uses 2.6.32-25-generic.

Mar 15, 2010I have never had this problem before but when i boot the system hangs for about 2 mins when brining up my harddrive I am using scsi disk support and the newer ATA driver for my Harddrive (the same as ive always used but for some reason the system just hangs for like 2 mins then boots normally

Debian :: Raid - No Booting / Reboot The System Does Not Boot?
Nov 5, 2010There seems to be a problem with Raid on Debian. I got a new Fujitsu Primergy TS 100 S1 server, with hardware Raid (and 2 disks) installed everything nicely over the net including GRUB - but when it comes to reboot the system does not boot.
Is there anybody here who knows about the problem?

Oct 14, 2010The server hangs or reboots when I install Fedora 13 x86 (32-bit) from DVD onto a quad core server (64GB of mem, 16 cores). Sometimes it gets as far as starting anaconda before the hang or reboot. I've been trying different combinations of kernel options, such as vesa, pci=msi, irqfixup, max_add=3072M, noapic, nolapic, noirqbalance, maxcpu=2...
But whatever I do, it hangs or it reboots. The 64 bit versions of RHEL5.5 and RHEL 6 Beta2 installs without problems.

Apr 20, 2009I want to install fedora 10 on my PC. But after booting from DVD a screen comes which tells me to:
" - to install or upgrade in graphical mode, press the <ENTER> key - use the function key listed below for more information [F1-Main] [F2-Options] [F3-General] [F4-Kernel] [F5-Rescue]"
when I press "Enter" nothing happens, even the function keys does not work & after some time PC restarts. The DVD is ok I have checked it in my friends PC, it works on his PC very well. My PC configuration is:
Precessor : Core 2 Duo 2.20 GHz
Ram : 1 GB
Hard Disk : SATA 160 GB maxtor
OS : Windows XP service pack 2

Feb 26, 2009I am having dual boot system Opensuse 11.1 and Windows vista. I have allotted about 5 GB space to home partition. Now sometimes I copy/move files from Windows partitions to /home, this is easily done. But when I restart the computer, It hangs and KDE is not loaded giving reason that disk is out of space. I have to work on commandline and delete some files from /home to free some space,only then I can restart the computer normally. This is very annoying.When I copy/move files then Opensuse should immediately give me a warning.It seems nonsense to not start kde.

Nov 12, 2010I don't actually have Ubuntu installed to my hard drive yet, I'm still playing with it on the demo CD. I'm new to linux, but the terminal is very familiar to me (iPhone jailbreaker).
Thing is, Terminal is giving me the finger anytime it can. I've yet to successfully do something on it. Simple things like "dpkg" or "cd any directory at all" are being a pain, and I can't put anything in /user/.Is this cause I'm booting it using a "demo CD", or does my computer just hate Ubuntu and I should give up now?

And installed subversion successfully using following command: # sudo yum install subversion But when i try to check out code from our subversion repository which exist on deifferent remote machine, the checkout commands just hangs indefinitely. If run "top" command then i can see that cpu usage shoots to 100%.

Dec 9, 2009I've been using linux for a long time, and I just ran into a problem that has me stumped. Any time I mistype a command, it says "Command not found."... yea, I know that's normal. But it doesn't return me to my # prompt. I have to press Ctrl+C to get back. code...
I know I do have one issue with this computer, I have 2 blown caps on my motherboard. This was a dual boot system, but after a virus with winblows, I decided to switch it to strictly linux. (roommates... *grumble*) I think I was running fc10 before I wiped the hd & installed fc12. Fc12 does seem to be running slower, and I still haven't got my sound card working properly... but that issue is for another topic...

Dec 23, 2009I booted up the computer (Fedora 11) and it hung at the blue screen with the F bubble in the middle. I waited for quite sometime without any change to the system I held down the power button to power off and tried starting the computer again with the same result.
When the sytem reboots and I press alt+ctrl+2 i see messages like below on the black screen:Unknown username "root" in message bus configuration file.Could not get password database....Failed to start message bus: Could not get UID and GID for username "dbus"..Please help me get the system up. I saved some data and did not take a backup. Is there's a way I can restore my system to a previous date? Or backup my data somehow?
Fedora :: Polipo Hangs System
Jun 11, 2010Problem with FC13 on a 64 bit box...tried to get Tor and Polipo going and at boot, the system hangs as soon as Polipo starts up. I need to adjust or delete the Polipo service but can't seem to get to any kind of a terminal either...it used to be just hit ctl-alt-and and F key and it dropped to a term. Now that's not happening. Can I do that? And...alternatively, can I force a skip of the Polipo service as it's booting?

Nov 20, 2010I don't know what I did, but for some reason my fedora system hangs on the OS startup when I use my default kernel. I can still use my other kernel to startup the system though, so it's more of an inconvenience really, but any help fixing it would be appreciated.
The default kernel is Fedora (2.6.34.7-61.fc13.i686) when I start up using this kernel the system hangs(I think I using the right term here, but not sure) after these messages code...

May 8, 2010I use Fedora12 AMD 64 and use Gnome and use K3B for write CD and DVD , when my system is ON for 1 hour and I want write DVD with K3B , I have to reboot system and after reboot , I can write DVD and I do not have problem , but when I do not REBOOT system and start write DVD , write 4.3 GB od DATA , take long time , and my fedora write on DVD in 8 hour and sometimes it take long time , but after reboot write one DVD take 16 min. I do not know why .
fedora work for 1 hour -----> when dose not reboot system --> take 8 hour for write one DVD Fedora work for 1 hour -----> when reboot system ---------> take 16 min for write on DVD

Feb 18, 2010I am running FC12 64bit. Frequently the system hangs usually one app - Thunderbird. If I have Firefox up also, it seems to run fine. The light indicating disk access is on almost constantly. Is there a way to find out what process is accessing which disk? I have 4 hds installed - 2 IDE and 2 SATA. I am having a similar problem trying to do a reboot - it does not reboot within 15 minutes. I need to hit the reset button.

Jul 20, 2010everything else seems well with my FC13-x86-64 except firefox (3.6.4 and earlier versions too) VERY frequently hangs the whole system. only the mouse still working, keyboard not responding to ctrl-alt-del, ctrl-alt-function or any other key and even num-lock won't turn the led on. system is still remotely accessible through ssh so I can issue a reboot. same thing may have occurred with thunderbird but only once or twice and probably firefox was also running then. no problems so far with google chrome (but I have no flash plugin for that). FC5-x86-32 on my old PC has never had any of these problems.

General :: Fedora 12 System Hangs After 30 Minutes?
Feb 17, 2010I have installed Fedora 12 as a workstation successfully, my hardware specification is Pentium 4 system with 2.8 GHz Processor having 512 MB Ram, which has 80 GB HDD, the primary partition where fedora 12 is installed is 20 GB, in primary part my root part is 5 GB, having 2 GB Swap part, also has Home partition which has 12 GB.
The system installed in KDE mode and works nicely, but after 30 or 40 minutes, it is hanged. I don't know why, then I restart the system to resolve it.
