Fedora :: Fedora LiveUSB - After Reboot Machine - System Backtrack The Original One
Nov 1, 2010
Today I installed starDict in my Fedora LiveUSB, after I reboot machine. The system backtrack the original one, and then I update the kernel, the system also backtrack.
Why LiveUSB have this function. Can you explain theory about LiveUSB.

I am attempting to run ssmtp from an initrd image to send an e-mail, via Gmail MTA, upon reboot of the machine. I have already successfully installed and configured ssmtp on the running box (in other words, ssmtp successfully runs after completion of the boot cycle). When attempting to mail something via `echo "Test" | ssmtp username@gmail.com`, I receive the following error message:

Having a problem with my system hanging after updating Fedora 12. Here are my system specs:
Gigabyte MA770-UD3 motherboard
AMD Phenom 9950 Quad Core
6 gig Corsair DDR 800
1 x 160 gig SATA (OS)
1 x 500 gig SATA (data)
I have my system configured for dual boot with Windows 7. After installing F12, I can reboot with no problem. However, after I install the kmod-nvidia drivers, my system hangs on reboot. If I press any key on the keyboard, it will start to load, the freeze until I press a key again. I have tried both Fedora 12 x64 and i386 with the same results. Here are the steps that I took to install the kmod-nvidia drivers code...
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

I've installed the XFCE iso of Fedora 14 (the 64x edition) onto a 4 gig flash drive. When I try to boot from the drive, a command-line (BIOS?) interface pops up with the following text (no prompt).
Code:
It hangs there without going any further. I'm currently downloading a different version of Fedora 14, so maybe it's just a bad install. Or maybe this is something that I should have encountered before. Any ideas on how to get it booted up?

All USB devices do not work/initialise, except when I run Ubuntu 10.04 liveUSB (netbook version). The problem arose following upgrade from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04, but only manifested after a couple of weeks. I've tried other distros and the problem persists in Fedora 13 which I am now using.
Output of lsusb with a USB memory stick and mouse in the ports is:

Bus 006 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

I'm quite keen to get Fedora 15 up and running but I am falling at the first hurdle. I can successfully boot from a LiveUSB and be presented with a text only tty2 / tty3 / tty4 / tty5 interface inviting me to log in but no graphics are possible and I cannot see any way to install Fedora. I have GMA500/Poulsbo graphics chipset which has notoriously **** Linux support but I note that basic support has been inlined in 2.6.39 so I think that if I could only get Fedora installed and then upgrade the kernel or do other things later I will be ok.

I booted into the Fedora 11 on my netbook, and used the desktop icon to install to hard-drive. I specified to use "Free space", and hit next. From there, it just stalls. The "Install Fedora" window does nothing, and I'm going on a half-hour now of nothing.
Tried three times, still nothing.
The first time I tried, I chose to replacce old linux installation (ubuntu), and when I told it to install Fedora 11 root as ext4, it said the boot can't be ext4... so I chose ext3 and it said root device must be ext4...

I tried doing a fresh install of F15 today on my computer, and I have a problem. When I try to install to hard drive, I get as far as choosing storage, then it examines storage devices and closes. I get an error that says a package has crashed. (I would post it up, but its not notifying me anymore)

I'm running a 64bit Version of Windows 7. I'm also dual-booting 64bit Ubuntu 10.04 (if it matters). However, for this I'm trying to get this working on the Windows 7 side of things. I downloaded the BackTrack 5 32bit GNOME .iso file (BT5-GNOME-32.iso) to my USB stick fine and made a VM on VMware Player. I set the OS as "Other Linux 2.6.x kernel" (if it matters). However, when I go to play my VM I get the following screen. I know I'm supposed to type Startx to launch the GUI. However, nothing happens; it's completely unresponsive (and yes keyboard focus is routed to the VM). There is no response, the cursor doesn't even blink.

Can I make a LiveUSB with persistance that can boot on a Mac or a PC? I have heard about GRUB2 but I have been having trouble installing it. rEFIt can be installed on the Mac and used to boot the USB but I want a method that allows me to bring my flash drive anywhere and boot the OS. I want there to be no required software on the other computer. Is this possible? If so can anybody post a guide on how to do it?

how to restore the original yum settings?
I followed a walkthrough that set the yum config to be more robust(?) or harder to break F11 and since have had major problems installing things.
Can I roll this back or reinstall the yum parts of the OS from scratch to regain normal operation?

I tried to install KDevelop4, decided I didn't want to use it, and now I am having trouble getting KDevelop3 working again. The only steps to installing kdevelop4 were installing a new version of kdevplatform and then kdevelop itself. I did this:
1) sudo yum remove "kdevplatform* kdevelop*"
2) disable updates and testing repo
3) sudo yum install "kdevelop"
The problem is that there is something wrong with the menus (File, Edit, etc). There are many important items missing, as well as one of them says "No text!". This indicates that this is not the original packaged version with F11 because I used it for a year and it was certainly not like this. Is there a better way to get back to the original version than I showed here?

I realize the information found here is potentially biased, but it made me curious where Fedora stands. Now that even Debian has agreed to distribute the original fork of Cdrtools, is Fedora considering that option? Several other distros are distributing the original fork now, and it's where active development is ongoing.

write me a 100% working step-by-step guide to remove all Ati VGA driver and restore the original "mesa" and other things? It's good too if i can just switch back. I have ugly glitches, slowdowns etc. since i installed the driver with fedora "easy life". I know there are many threads about this but i didn't find a clear working explanation.
