When I try and use yum as a normal user i get: Error: failure: repodata/primary.xml.gz from adobe-linux-i386: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try. If I do this as root it works fine. What am I missing?
View 4 RepliesI'd been wondering why I hadn't gotten any security updates since upgrading to Maverick RC a week or two ago. It turns out that it's because I'd let Ubuntu's Software Sources application "select best server" for me, and the server it chose (mirrors.ccs.neu.edu) doesn't appear to include updates for any versions of Ubuntu except Intrepid Ibex!
How crazy is that? The general list of Ubuntu mirrors reports the mirror as 'up to date', despite the fact that it doesn't actually maintain updates for current versions of Ubuntu. This strikes me as a serious problem. Software Sources should not select as a "best server" a mirror that doesn't even contain updates for your version of Ubuntu.
I have fresh CentOS 5.2 installed to 2 sata hdd 1.5 TB size; on every of that hdd is primary raid1 submirror of /boot made with md during install. All other space is lvm place, on lvm living root and swap partitions. And it's work. Now I want to mirror my root and swap, and add other volumes with different raid requirements (raid0 and raid1).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI`m having a problem with upgrading my Fedora 11 to either Fedora 12 or Fedora 13. When i start preupgrade, it lists all packages that need to be upgraded, but then it ends with the message that none of the mirrors can be found. I`m seeing the messages in the console, and indeed all the mirrors return "HTTP Error 404: Not Found". Any idea how to change this and eventually do an upgrade?. I also downloaded the Fedora 13 DVD, and tried to upgrade that way, but it never showed me the window which must give me the option to upgrade instead of doing a fresh install. The explanation in the official website clearly shows that this window exist, but after several tries with the DVD I did not get it.

In Fedora 15 fresh installation, yum update does not work. During package download, it throws the message "no mirrors to try". Yum repolist is below:

I have set proxy for yum so that the packages that are not available on local mirror can be downloaded from other mirrors. But then i don't know how to set no proxy for my local server. Consequently it is not using my local mirror at all. Tell me how to set no proxy for the local mirror. I want my local mirror because it's damn fast. Seven times I was downloading the fedora11 disc1 i386 iso and the sha256 checksum was bad. When I try ftp.belnet.be mirror I can get the correct checksum. I understand the copy process between mirrors probably was errors. Becarefull friends. This bad iso aborts the installation process.
View 4 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know if the Yum fastestmirror plugin only makes decisions based on latency to pick the best host or does it measure bandwidth? On my laptop for the last few weeks I've been getting super slow yum updates (3.5kB/sec), when I force it to use the baseurl it runs as fast as I'd expect (160+KB/sec).
So the fastestmirror plugin doesn't seem to work unless maybe it's measuring latency as fast but the actual download speed is slow. If so, fastestmirror plugin should really take both into account.
My yum is not working. I need cpan in order to install a perl module net::ldap.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAlmost every other time I run yum update, I'm getting mirror problems - this is losing all my confidence in Fedora for several reasons: a) it's wasting time - what should be 1-2 minute updates are taking 5-10 minutes and often (like tonight) not even completing b) since it keeps hanging and switiching mirrors during downloads I wonder if the updates are coming thru okay c) the fact this is not being seriously addressed makes me wonder re Fedora quality. Add to that the constant and real annoying kernel errors popping up re network manager and sierra wireless (even when my sprint card is not plugged in).

I have been looking into setting up a local repository for updates etc as we have an increasing number of fedora clients/servers. Searching the web I found multiple how-to's on how to accomplish this little project. One thing that bothers me is that each how-to seems to refer to a "static URL" mirror for rsync to get the rpms.

whenever I try to install something via yum, it automatically downloads stuff from mirror.cse.iitk.ac.in as shown above. However, i thinks there's some problem in that mirror because installation freezes after sometime and I have to start again. How do I change my mirror to another one, possibly nearest and fastest to me other than that?
PS: I use plugins axel and fastestmirror.
yum repolist shows the reponame. What's the command to list the specific link that it's using?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to use the amd64 version of the natty mini iso installer. The installer crashes with the log stating bad address us.archive.ubuntu.com. This is true for any archive I select. error is: mirror does not support the specified release (natty) Anyone know of a working mirror or if one will ever work? Not a confidence builder in the development.
I also tried the Maveric version of the mini iso. It also crashes with complaints about a bad kernel. So far a wasted day. Just add to this I tried the normal natty iso. The problem is in the manual partitioning. It locks up solid while trying to set partitions. Is there a later release of the iso?
As the title says I'm trying to build myself a local RPM mirror. I have multiple laptops and a desktop that use Fedora 11. So I used 'rsync' to setup and sync my directories. I next went on to create my repo with the 'createrepo' function. I run my server backend as FreeBSD so I moved my data over there and setup my 'lighttpd' service.
Everything went fine until I used 'rsync' and synced up my data. Am I supposed to run 'createrepo' after each sync? If so, does anyone else use the same kinda setup, even if not FreeBSD, but a different os other than linux for their server that they run this from? I've been dealing with this for 2 weeks now and finally gave up researching and testing and thought. Not something I'm good at doing. Check my register date and my first post date.
Edit: FreeBSD doesn't have a port or unofficial port for this. I noticed it seems to be written as a python script so thought I could somehow get it to run on FreeBSD with linux emulation.
I'd like to ask a question on installing software.
I cannot install software using "yum" but I can with the GUI program "Add/Remove Software".
For example, I tried:

However, what's puzzling is that I could install some certain packages although I still see the same kind of error messages.

I want to make a fedora mirror site and i only want to have the fedora 15 i386 rpm files i dont want to download all the rest. How do i di this ?

I'm tring to download an iso image that's over 3GB. The file is hosted at several ftp mirrors. Is there a way to download the file from several of these mirrors simultaneously so that I can reduce the D/L time? Presently, it's will take close to 24hrs to D/L from just one mirror. I have a 25Mbps connection so my bandwidth is not an issue.
