I am Setting up 3 HP Proliant servers with 2 250GB Hard Drives in each. How Do I mirror the drives, and link all the servers together??? I am installing Centos 5.3. From the software install menu I installed Gnome, and the Server software, but can't seem to figure out how to get into the server side of it from gnome. Sorry for all the questions, but I have been out of the loop of all this for about 8 years and trying to re-learn everything.

Fedora :: Ln Command For Link Creation To Folder On Windows Partition

Jan 16, 2010

I have a question about the ln command for link creation. I have both Windows and Linux partitions on my system. While I'm working on linux, sometimes I need to access the data stored on my windows partition. Yet, the access is provided through /media directory and I often, I have to click on several folders in order to access windows "My Documents" folder. So, in order to avoid this, I decided to create a link to "My Documents" folder directly from my $HOME directory.

Code:
$ mkdir /home/dariyoosh/MyDocuments
$ ln -fs /media/disk/Users/dariyoosh/Documents/MyDocuments/* ./MyDocuments

The link was created without any problem and now I have a direct access to that folder just by a click. Yet, there is a problem. If I update any file of the windows MyDocuments folder within this linking directory, the file is actually updated on the windows partition, which is of course what I want to do. But If I decide to create a new file on the windows "MyDocuments" folder by using this linking folder, that is, /home/dariyoosh/MyDocuments, the file is put actually on the linux partition instead of the windows MyDocuments folder. So, having created a directory linking to another directory, is there any way to proceed so that any file operation, in particular, creation, affects directly the linked directory?

Slackware :: Command To Create Local Mirror Of Alien Bob's Kde4.4.0 Packages?

PHP Code...

But with those files being on an HTTP server and wget not supporting HTTP file globbing I'm at a loss.

What is a one step method to recursively download all files in a directory on an HTTP server?

Fedora :: Use Local Mirror For Yum - Set No Proxy For Local Mirror?

Jan 9, 2010

I'm using f12. My university has recently become a mirror for fedora packages. But i'm facing a trivial problem. I have set proxy for yum so that the packages that are not available on local mirror can be downloaded from other mirrors. But then i don't know how to set no proxy for my local server. Consequently it is not using my local mirror at all. Tell me how to set no proxy for the local mirror. I want my local mirror because it's damn fast. My proxy settings are like this (they go in /etc/yum.conf):

Fedora :: Download A .rpm With Exact File Name?

Nov 12, 2010

I am running Fedora 14, 64 bit. For running Skype, I've installed all the 32 bit libraries needed, using this command:

yum -y install libXv.i686 libXScrnSaver.i686 qt.i686 qt-x11.i686 pulseaudio-libs.i686 pulseaudio-libs-glib2.i686 alsa-plugins-pulseaudio.i686

Everything is cool, till I realized, that I still hadn't configured yum to keep downloaded rpm's in the cache :-( And I am ALWAYS keeping the downloaded rpm's !!! I have the filenames from the terminal, but can't figure out how to download them again (easily). I immediately thought of yumdownloader, but it doesn't work as I need it to:

# yumdownloader libxml2-2.7.7-2.fc14.i686.rpm
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
No Match for argument libxml2-2.7.7-2.fc14.i686.rpm
Nothing to download

Maybe I need the contrary to yum whatprovides ? Is there any way to easily do it? (I was quite successful with wget, but I am still missing 11 packages which I can't find them in the repo.

I want to backup my server that godaddy is hosting and install it on my linux system at home. In other words I want to have a clone of my server at home, like what timemachine does on mac (carries files and programs from one mac to another to make a clone).

How do I do that? I create an image file an iso file? or what? How?

I want to do this incase my server burns up over there. I don't want to reinstall all the programs and do the set ups manually again.

Ubuntu :: Link One Command To Another?

Jun 14, 2011

there is a way to link a terminal command to run a different command... but I have no idea what it was called and all my searches keep finding how to make symbolic links.

What I'm trying to achieve is if you run $foo, the terminal will instead run $~/foo.sh

I would like this to be able to create links between the command $blender and my blender 2.5 installation which is buried in my home folder.

How do I change my mirror to another one, possibly nearest and fastest to me other than that?

Fedora :: Using 'createrepo' And Building A Local Network Mirror

Aug 3, 2009

As the title says I'm trying to build myself a local RPM mirror. I have multiple laptops and a desktop that use Fedora 11. So I used 'rsync' to setup and sync my directories. I next went on to create my repo with the 'createrepo' function. I run my server backend as FreeBSD so I moved my data over there and setup my 'lighttpd' service.

Everything went fine until I used 'rsync' and synced up my data. Am I supposed to run 'createrepo' after each sync? If so, does anyone else use the same kinda setup, even if not FreeBSD, but a different os other than linux for their server that they run this from? I've been dealing with this for 2 weeks now and finally gave up researching and testing and thought. Not something I'm good at doing. Check my register date and my first post date.

Edit: FreeBSD doesn't have a port or unofficial port for this. I noticed it seems to be written as a python script so thought I could somehow get it to run on FreeBSD with linux emulation.

Fedora :: Yum - Cannot Access Mirror Sites But Add/Remove Software

Mar 9, 2011

I'd like to ask a question on installing software.

I cannot install software using "yum" but I can with the GUI program "Add/Remove Software".

For example, I tried:

It will exhaust all the mirror sites without success.

All the error messages look like:

But I can install "screen.i686" easily from the "Add/Remove Software" GUI and it is very fast.

However, what's puzzling is that I could install some certain packages although I still see the same kind of error messages.

For example,

will work. But in general, "yum" is running very slow and is rejected at every mirror sites.

My settings: I just installed "Fedora 14" (Linux 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686) as a virtual machine (using VirtualBox) on a Windows XP (Professional, SP3) host on my laptop (CPU: Intel Core2 Duo), which accesses internet through a HTTP Proxy server since it is behind a corporate firewall.

Programming :: Link Directories - Symlink Not Updated / Hard Link Not Supported?

Sep 6, 2010

In the ordering of files I keep I need links to directories. Sometimes I even need to move directories to new locations. I have tried using symlinks, but they become dead when I move the directory they point to. I have tried hard links, but I haven't found any Linux file system that would support hard linked directories. How can I achieve that a complex structure of directories (currently with symlinks for directories and hard links for files) keep symlinks live when directories are moved?

- is there any utility that updates symlinks when a directory is moved?

- is there any Linux filesystem that supports hard linked directories?

- is there any good Linux interface to the new NTFS (the only file system I know to support automatically updating directory links, called directory junctions)?

Ubuntu Networking :: Mount To Vista Needed For Apache - Symbolic Link Not Allowed Or Link Target Not Accessible

Apr 26, 2010

I have a problem where I'm using Ubuntu linux to mount a Windows Vista machine's USB drive and access it on the web using Apache. I did have the USB drive plugged into the Linux machine directly and that was working via the web. FollowSymLinks is on in httpd.conf

[Code]....

The mount works and I can see the files (see above) from my regular linux user account. If I make a test file in /mnt and soft link to that, I can see it on the web. So it's just the mount to the vista machine that seems to be a problem. It's supposed to be a simple read-only mount and the apache login should (I think) be able to see the same generic root access permissions.

log from apache: [Mon Apr 26 20:39:42 2010] [error] [client 99.99.99.99] Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible: /home/user1/pub_html/Music, referer: https://xx.xx.xx/~user1/music.html

The credentials have a login and password that matches a special read-only account on Vista. I can see the files on the system from Linux, but not via the web. As mentioned above, a different link to the same /mnt area works fine via the web. I've tried several different mount options with no success.
