what can be the problem.I think it is related to proxy but i am unable to resolve.
So everytime i try and use the "yum" command. for some reason it doesn't go past this point: "loading mirror speeds from cached host files". i cleaned up the cache and rebuilt the OS again, and im still getting this problem. would this be a problem with my internet connection? I'm using CentOS 5.5.

If the folder has more entries it take more time to load and if less no of entries then correspondingly less time . the delay in loading the folder varies due to reading of the folder entries in advance . View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed RipperX and the Lame MP3 encoder, as well as Oggenc. I noticed that Ripperx plugins are loaded at boot. The thing which concerns me is that there are multiple instances of a plugin witht the same name showing in system monitor( or ps command). There are about 15 processes alone with the name "plugin-Lame."

Are these actually different? Or do I really have redundant instances running? I'm concerned because I have an old system with limited RAM, and all the plugins together make an impact. If they are all neccessary and needed for RipperX, is there a way to have them load up when RipperX is started, rather than at boot-time?

I recently setup a software RAID1 with two hard drives for testing. I manually unplugged one hard drive to test redundancy and it was fine. I then did the same to the second and plugged back in the first and it was fine. But when I plugged both back in it is only loading one of the mirrors instead of both. I am guessing when the mirror (failed), at least as far as the system knew it removed it from the load sequence to prevent data corruption... how do I go about re-enabling it?.

I've been looking forward to making the switch to Ubuntu for a while, but ever since I did, the road's been pockmarked with errors and hassles. That's, primarily, because I don't know what the hell I'm doing. Let me explain how I installed Ubuntu: All I did to install Ubuntu was download the file from the website and run the program. I didn't burn anything onto a CD or USB; I just clicked on the .exe file and let it run from there. Everything worked great - all I had to do was boot my laptop and choose from either Windows 7 or Ubuntu. Now, I had no idea how to watch videos, so I started to install a lot of stuff from the Synaptic Download Manager. Now, I don't know all of what I downloaded, but it was mainly games. The next thing I know, I get this page when I choose Ubuntu:

From some time now whenever i start the Package Manager it hangs at the line "Loaded Plugins: refresh-packagekit" I don't know the reason as it doesn't throw up any errors. Even if i reset the terminal. nothing changes. if i force quit then when i start package manager again (in the same boot) it stops and gives the message that other application has yum lock as i cannot auto install any software

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to use the amd64 version of the natty mini iso installer. The installer crashes with the log stating bad address us.archive.ubuntu.com. This is true for any archive I select. error is: mirror does not support the specified release (natty) Anyone know of a working mirror or if one will ever work? Not a confidence builder in the development.
I also tried the Maveric version of the mini iso. It also crashes with complaints about a bad kernel. So far a wasted day. Just add to this I tried the normal natty iso. The problem is in the manual partitioning. It locks up solid while trying to set partitions. Is there a later release of the iso?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI went through the procedure to install Ubuntu 9.10 alongside Windows XP. The installation completed without complaint. But when I reboot the PC I get the error message "Grub loading error: no such partition...". and the keyboard is dead. I am using a Sony vaio PCG-FR215H laptop on which I have fitted new HDD and CD-drive. I carried out the installation by first booting up a live version of Ubuntu on a USB thumb drive and then clicking on the 'install Ubuntu' icon on the Live Ubuntu desktop. (I coudn't use a Live CD to install as this fails for some reason). I regained use of Windows XP on the PC by booting with a Windows 95 boot floppy and typing "fdisk /mbr". So, does anyone know what might have cased this grub error? Also, are there ways to try and fix the problem manually. I.e. can I get a copy of good versions of the files that are likely corrupted and then replace the stuff that I will have written over when I did the "fdisk /mbr"?

It gets to the part where I can "Run Ubuntu from this USB," and I select it. The screen shows "loading vm/linuz..." or something like that, and then the entire screen turns into dots.
One time, when trying to boot from the drive, it brought up

I was trying to install MySql on my pc cause I would create a LAMP machine.
I want to install MySql from binaries, so I tried to follow the [URL] instructions. I have to run the command:

I tried to install libaio by my package manager Pacman but nothing changed.
I have a fancy new Quad Core Xeon machine here that I'm trying to install F10 x64 on. The installation went fine. When it reboots the first time, though, I get the dreaded Error Loading OS.

The strange thing is it seems to be specific to the computer. I have an older, lower spaced desktop, computer that I tried the hard drive in and it worked fine. Problem is its too low spaced for what I want so it seems the install went ok but its something with the computer? How I would be able to boot into the install?

This problem was easily found using search with solutions for Fedora 11.
The following information has been found for adding the 32 bit support to Fedora 11 but it does not work in Fedora 12.
The file created in the instructions below is a list of the 32 bit libraries. It is then called as input to yum to simply install them.
"Add the Libraries Next, add the 32-bit libraries by copying the following list, and pasting it into a text file. Save it as �Fedora-ia32.txt�."
Another post says that was all unnecessary as the following commands would do the same thing.
Could have simply been achieved by calling:$ yum install SDL.i586...(Or by selecting SDL.i586 in add/remove programs.)
The problem I have with Fedora 12 are neither of these will install anything in Fedora 12. Looking at add/remove programs does not yield anthing that looks like it is 32 bit support when searching with the argument "SDL".
Does anyone know how to install 32 bit support into Fedora 12 64 bit version ? I like the simple yum expression rather than long lists like the first example uses, but I'll try anything if it works.
A side question to this entire experiment is what chance would you give to Second Life being able to be run remotely using VNC? I would think if it runes on the Linux machine, using a remote terminal would have little impact. Using VNC isn't the usual way this will be run, I just wonder if it would work at all.
When I try and use yum as a normal user i get: Error: failure: repodata/primary.xml.gz from adobe-linux-i386: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try. If I do this as root it works fine. What am I missing?
