Yes I looked at [URL] I mostly work with the Red Hat 5.x. The Fedora release software is kept on a mirror and the DVD release as, (using i386 release):

I am doing a new Debian install on an older Dell laptop (Latitude D520, but that should not matter). I downloaded the net install .iso, burned it to disk, and ran it. Everything was progressing like any other installation I have done until I was asked to pick the mirror. I chose ftp.us.debian.org like I normally do and it was rejected. When I checked the output on virtual console 4, I am seeing the message "mirror does not support the specified release (jessie)."
I tried a bunch of random mirrors, including international ones, and they all give me that message.
I have a local apt-mirror on my network that I use to upgrade my Ubuntu and Debian systems; works great, had it for years, used it to do release upgrades in the past. This time I'm trying to upgrade a fairly recently-installed 64-bit Lucid kubuntu machine to Maverick. When I try, I get this error:

Release upgrade ends up with error:
"Error during update. A problem occurred during the update. This is usually some sort of network problem, please check your network connection and retry. The server may be overloaded. Restoring original system state".
When doing do-release-upgrade -d to upgrade from karmik to lucid. I using local mirror ftp://ubuntu.snacho.ru (also have http that works but not browseable). When I change lines in /etc/apt/sources.list from local mirror to official [URL] all works fine. I don't want to download 1Gb from internet (because of traffic cost). What is wrong with local mirror ? I can communicate with its owner, but what he needs to change on the mirror ?
I'm very happy with 10.04 but want to take a look at 10.10. I can't seem to find a list & description of all the new features.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to use the amd64 version of the natty mini iso installer. The installer crashes with the log stating bad address us.archive.ubuntu.com. This is true for any archive I select. error is: mirror does not support the specified release (natty) Anyone know of a working mirror or if one will ever work? Not a confidence builder in the development.
I also tried the Maveric version of the mini iso. It also crashes with complaints about a bad kernel. So far a wasted day. Just add to this I tried the normal natty iso. The problem is in the manual partitioning. It locks up solid while trying to set partitions. Is there a later release of the iso?
I am using GTKPOD to add music and sync my Ipod touch. I have gtkpod up and running and I have gone through the initial steps of changing the repo and selecting my ipod touch. But now when I try to "load ipod" i am receiving an error stating that the IPOD directory structure not found.
I have changed the repo so that is ipod mount point: /mnt
But after selecting load ipod;
Could not find iPod directory structure at '/mnt'.
If you are sure that the iPod is properly mounted at '/mnt', it may not be initialized for use. In this case, gtkpod can initialize it for you.

I then make the file executable and then execute it. Trouble is, the destination directories don't actually exist, so naturally, the "ln -s" fails.
Is there a way to create the destination directories dynamically based on what is specified in the file above?
My requirement is to install Ubuntu SERVER 8.04.3 LTS on a Dell 2550 machine.
Problem.
- Bug in ubuntu (desktop and server) stopping CD install on this hardware platform. It hangs half way through and is something to do with the SCSI CD drive. Lots of stuff on the net about it, but no fix as far as I can see, at least nothing that works for me.
- So, tried boot off CD and then used F6 and added a cdrom-detect/try-usb=true line together with putting a USB with the ISO burnt onto it in the USB port. Still hangs during install (can't see USB perhaps? USB not correctly burnt? Tried many many times though, and eventually gave up at 2am)
- Next tried PXE boot. Now getting somewhere. Ok I installed tftpd32 on my windows machine, and copied the netboot files from the ubuntu site to the tftpd directory. (I dont think this will help me install the server, just the desktop??) Anyway, it booted from the win tftp machine (wahey!), and went through install, BUT when it tried to find the mirror site it couldnt. In fact it couldnt find ANY mirror site. (Internet access from windows and all other PCs on the network is working fine).
So, to ensure I am installing the SERVER version, and to use PXE boot, and to NOT use the internet to download the files (i.e. load them up locally somewhere), what do I do?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have uShare 1.1a setup to talk to my XBox 360. If I share a directory that has no subdirectories, the video files display on the XBox. However, most of my files are in sub-directories on a different partition - I don't really want to copy them to the share, but uShare doesn't seem to recognise any sub-directories or files contained therein.
I have tried setting up symbolic soft links directly to the video files (although this is a pain, it is better than moving the files)...

These are big directories and I don't need them all checked out. I only need the src directory. After I commit the files in the /app/src, it must be pushed to a remote site.
If I want only to checkout the src directory to work on, it's important to create a special file structure in git? For example, instead of doing git init on app general directory, should I do git init on all subdirectories?
Is it possible to checkout only part of a file structure in git?
Unfortunately, I deleted my /home/ directory by running "rm -rf *" accidentally. The partition (/dev/sda3/) has an ext3 filesystem. After deleting the /home directory, I shutted down the PC and rebooted from a RIPLinux liveUSB, which has some tools that allowed me to recover some files. However, what I would like to do is to recover the directory tree structure, rather than the files, in order to see which files I deleted.
What I exactly want is the following:
I would like to have the output of "ls -lR /home/" before deleting all the files, but the problem is that now the /home directory is empty.
My clearly outdated Linux course I'M using is telling me that the directory structure for building RPMs is in /usr/src/redhat, but on my redhat system, there is only /usr/src/ > debug & > kernels, folders.

I am using RHEL 4.4. Last time when I reboot my server it generate an error, and mention to run fsck command in repair mode. When I ran, this fix some problems, but after that it generate an error of gdm and X11 services after showing login sceen and getting user name and passwod. But I login via putty from a remote system. So, when I tried to make changes like create directory or file or even tried to make any change in any file it generate an error that " you can not make changes in read only file system".

Amarok is nice, and currently the only thing I've tried that will actually play audio from network shares and not lock up. Only problem is that it doesn't seem to list my library by directory/folder structure.. only album/artist/genre or some variation thereof. Is there anything that does list by folder structure?
