View 10 Replies View RelatedI am using OpenSuse 11.4(32 bit) on my Lenovo B460 laptop, and as the title points, am unable to use wireless on it. The 'enable wireless' option from icon menu is not greyed out, however clicking it does nothing, it remains disabled.

so it seems that opensuse knows my hardware but networkmanager doesn't! I have all broadcom packages installed as well as kernel-firmware installed.
I have Lenovo G550 and openSUSE 11.4. Everything's ok, wifi without problems, I could connect to anywhere I wanted to, but yesterday while laptop was running and was connected actually by wire to internet, after removing the wire I realized that I cannot connect to wifi (the laptop was hibernated during night) - even the light diode in the front of the laptop was not shining. I went to yast and realized that the wlan0 isn't enabled and there's new eth1 port. But the wlan by ifup I cannot start and the eth1 I cannot start as well.

I recently upgraded it from 8.04 to 9.04. Ive tried using the Windows Wireless Driver option in System - Admin but to no avail.

However, I have a madening problem: when typing I cannot use the right hand Shift key with either or if I do, the v looks like $V, and the capitol m ends up giving me a pulldown menu. I assume this is not common to Ubuntu, but maybe it is?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satellite A660 laptop with Ubuntu 10.04. I am sure that the internal microphone works because when I reboot into Windows it works fine. It does not work in Ubuntu instead. I tried three things:
1) Action: I checked all the volumes, made sure that the microphone is not muted and selected the proper device as "Analog Stereo Duplex".
Result: no improvements.
2) Action: I installed PulseAudio to better manage the volumes.
Result: no improvements.
3) Action: in the Terminal, I executed the line " sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf " and then added the line " options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba " at the bottom of the page that opened. I saved, closed and rebooted.
Result: no improvements.
I executed in the Terminal the command " wget [URL]. The link to where data were uploaded is [URL].
So, help me through getting my audio working properly on my Toshiba Satellite A105-S2081 Laptop. I think I've been through most of the help messages and tried many things to get it working correctly. The ONLY thing that has helped is to go to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and change model=auto to model=generic. (options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N model=generic)
I've tried model=toshiba, model=auto, model=lenovo, model=3stack, model=dallas and the laptops internal sound device disappears from the list of sound devices. If I plug in my Logitech Headset, it seems to work fine.It also seems to work fine if I boot it up into XP SP3.It does work now generally with model=generic, but not sure that everything works properly, like the headset & microphone jack. (Actually the reason I have the Logitech Headset is because the headset jack doesn't work).
Running OpenSuse 11.2 from live dvd. When it starts up, the screen gets filled with vertical green and black lines, with about a 1 inch square in the middle that moves as the cursor. Nothing else is visible.I've tried each of the video options, with the same result. Is there any solution to this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOff and on for some time now I've been using a Toshiba x205-s9359 laptop with (11.4/KDE4.6) during the day as a general purpose laptop using the onboard LCD and in the evenings to run XBMC to play movies on a TV using an HDMI cable (no cable TV on our little island & Satellite TV is poor in the rainy season).
The video card is an NVidia GeForce 8700M GT with NVidia's proprietary driver v. 275.09.07 (installed the "hard way").

Now the Audio/Video both go to the TV via HDMI if it's connected prior to boot, if not the laptop works normally.
If you try this with XBMC don't forget to go to set the XBMC settings to "HDMI" as needed.
Wireless worked fine on live cd, but for some reason not after install. I think maybe the driver is not loading, but I am a pretty much still a noob, so my opinion isn't worth much. If it is the driver not loading, I don't know what to do to fix it. Here is my wireless output information.

I found a few fixes which I tried to use, to no sucess. updating drivers, turning router on/off, turning wireless switch on/off, various other fixes from ubuntuforums. tried to upgrade to Natty Narwhale to see if the problem worked it's way out, to no avail. I've spent two days trying for this. Anyone out there willing to point me in the right direction or hold my hand?

I've just installed Squeeze on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite C660D - adapter is a Realtek 8188CE) and was following the instructions on debian.org to set up WiFi. I've changed the source list, done the firmware update and the modprobe, but when I get to step 5 where it says to verify that I have a wireless interface, the output from iwconfig just lists lo, eth0 and pan0, all with "no wireless extensions". Does anyone have any ideas what I should do now?

Now the entry for the Wireless Broadband is gone, and the tab for it is greyed out as well.I would be happy to submit this as a bug and assist with the debugging process.

Since my Laptop is pretty old I also bought a Netger Wireless Adapter for the sme model. Now when I connect the Wireless Adapter I am unable to connect to Wi-fi. Another laptop with fedora 10 installed finds the network, so the problem is not the network. I guess it's a problem with the wireless driver / firmware, as i had this problem on fedora some time ago, and i've solved installing the firmware. In windows i was able to use bluetooth with my nokia phone.
The wireless hardware button in the laptop is on. There is no option it the bios to turn off the bluetooth, so i'm sure that the machine is booting with bluetooth on.

New user to Linux. I installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS to a mini-laptop, but the built-in wireless card/chip is not working. It worked under the previous OS, XP. There is a switch on the case frame that enables it, but the active light did not turn on during installation. I installed a second time and manually flicked the switch every one second to see if it needed human intervention, but to no avail.
My next step was to try to update Ubuntu to see if it would help, so I inserted a Belkin USB wireless, but the connection was intermittent at best. I believe the device is faulty. A wired connection is impossible as I am sharing with my neighbor. What should I do to help Ubuntu the internal wireless device?
