My wireless was connecting fine, but it was impossible to browse with. So, after searching around for a while I found a thread where it said to enter this and reboot.

But after entering that and re booting, now I cant even connect to the wireless. It says connecting but times out.
I have fedora 12 and since I started using firefox I noticed that it performs very slow. Slow when opening, when displaying information etc..I thought that there was something wrong with my wireless device but I installed opera and it works very fast. The strange thing is that before that I installed google chrome and also worked very slow for me.

My internet connection is fine in Windows 7 but an older computer I resurrected (AMD Athlon 1.7 GHz, 512 MB RAM, Fedora 14 Security Lab Spin) is having the stop-and-go's with its internet connection. It will work for very briefly, then it gets extremely slow, where any page I try to navigate to in Firefox 3.6 takes forever to load.I have a DSL connection and my DSL modem is connected to a Linksys WRT54G2 router. I set up a static IP in Windows but don't know how to do this yet in Fedora 14, and I need to get my internet connection working so I can troubleshoot further, but with it being so slow, I'm having to use Windows to search for problems and then switch over to the Fedora box via KVM (IOGEAR), which I also just started using. I don't think that would be related, but who knows.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI've recently salvaged a computer I found gathering dust in the basement and decided I'll have it running on Fedora (I have a summer studentship coming up that needs Linux use so I thought I'd best start learning!). Following a clean install, Fedora can see the wireless network just fine. I try to connect and nothing happens. Half of the time it will ask for the PSK (yes, I promise I'm entering it correctly) and the other half of the time it will just stop. When it does ask for the PSK I enter it (correctly) and it will ask me again... and again.

I log on and Network Manager shows no wireless adapter.
I go to System > Administration > Network:
There are two entries in the Devices tab: Wireless and Ethernet
As soon as I double click the Wireless device and the configuration pops up, the device starts working (no changes to the settings are made)
I have the following set to ON:
- Controlled by Network Manager
- Activate device when computer starts
- Allow all users to enable and disable this device
I've been using slackware for many years. I think I started with Slack 8. I know how to configure the network, I've had this same POS Dell computer for a few years now but the other day I tried to go to a different distro (first mistake) everything worked fine but it was not for me. Once you go slack you never go back! Anyway I had slack on here prior to the change and it all worked fine. I'm running slack 13 and all of a sudden my network is slow as balls! I set it up as I always have so I did some research and tried a few things, nothing worked. So i enabled DHCP and its fine now.. I have a dell xps 420. onboard intel nic. worked fine when i first installed slack 13. Anyone have any clue what to do? I would like my static IP on this machine.

But now I have nuked that installation and replaced it with FC10. Network Manager is nice, and I would like to use it. And it kind-of works. Network Manager recognizes my router and all my neighbor's routers, but I can't connect.

But it keeps asking for network password with repeating a dialogue box although I entered correct password. I have configured the wireless configuration using NetworkManager.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen fedora initially starts up, the network manager shows all the available wireless connections available to me. However, when I select my wireless connection, it will go through the loading process where it shows the two green dots and the circular moving blue streak, then it prompts me to put in the wpa password.
This is where the trouble starts...when i input my wpa password, it will proceed to attempt to connect to my network but it never succeeds in doing so--it will keep on asking me to input my wpa password. when i finally get sick of doing it over and over again, i just hit cancel instead of retrying to connect.
After i stop trying to connect, the network manager no longer shows all the available wireless networks--the list is completely empty, and i can find no way to get the list to show up again, with the exception of restarting my computer.
I am able to connect to the internet with a wired ethernet, but id like my wireless to work.
I find it interesting that the only CLnetwork manager is nmcli(). Are there others you know and love?

My computer is running really slow after a power outage. It was fine, then the power went out. Now it's *unabably* slow. The OS takes a long time to load, the simple calculator takes a few minutes to show up, Firefox doesn't even load at all before I give up. And it won't shut down normally. I have to use the power button.
So did the power outage fry somthing on my PC. Do I have ot replace RAM or the processor? Or is it a software issue? Do I have to do something as drastic as a reimage?
i ahve just installed fedora 11 kde edition and i used to use fedora 10 after finish installation i edit the connectons to connect to my network im in lan network but i connect my cable to an access point to free using my laptop anywhere after adding every thing (wep key ,static ip's,) as i used to do and i have the connected sign at the system tray.i open the browser but no internet connection pinging the gateway returns "Destination Host Unreachable".

I am currently trying to set up OpenWRT linux on the router. Because of the nature of my problem I have also posted this on their forum.I am having trouble connecting to my OpenWRT install via Fedora. Things seem okay in Windows, but when I try to connect from linux my laptop locks up completely and I have to hard reboot. I previously have never had any trouble connecting to any other router with this install of Fedora.

I'm using Fedora 11 on both machines. It is just as bad if I use the laptop's built-in wireless. lsusb shows the adapter uses the Ralink RT2501USB chipset. iwlist wlan0 rate gives "wlan0 unknown bit-rate information."

When running Firefox, page loading is very slow (e.g. taking nearly a minute for a ..... video to start; even gmail is slow). This is in contrast with my performance when using, e.g. linuxdcpp (file sharing), where I get speeds over 300kbps. Here is some relevant information:

I have installed Fedora 12 OS which is using kernel 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64. I am using a Linksys WMP600N Wireless-N PCI Adapter with Dual Band card which has a Ralink chipset. I have installed the latest rt2860 driver which uses the 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64 kernel. If there is any other pieces of information that is need I can provide it.
Problem: I can use either the Ethernet connection which is built into my ABIT mother board or my PCI wireless card. My Ethernet connection works perfectly however; my wireless card comes up attaches to my wireless router; that's it. There is a strong signal, the WPA2 security password works correctly. I am able to ping my loop-back address and my DHCP IP address for my wireless card but I can not ping the router or anything outside of my box.
If I let the ping program run for a while and allow it to try to ping the router, after a period of time ~5minutes or so I will get several hits and then stop. The firewall does not change from my Ethernet connection to my wireless connection. The Wireless connection is a trusted interface in my firewall specifications. Questions/Thoughts:
Can I use the same OS provided routing table for my Ethernet connection for my wireless connection? Would the OS know which port to use by switching to a wireless connection (after reboot)? Do I need to somehow switch or bridge the port? Is the wpa_supplicant playing with my connection and opening it up and then shutting it down? Below are some netstat data: routing, interface table, statistics, and dmesg on the kernel driver rt2860.

I am new to fedora, but not so new to linux. I've got f13 installed on my netbook, and the speed and overall beter-ness? of it made me want to get it going on my desktop. I've installed, and have updated the kernel, and network manager (Along with a few other things). My problem is this; after about an hour or two I get a drop out, unable to reconnect. Until I use 'ifconfig wlan0 down > ifconfig wlan0 up' then it works great for about 10 minutes, slows down, and eventualy drops out. i updated networkmanager in the hopes it may have been that, but it really made only a slight difference.

I am using a linksys wusb54g > chipset ralink rt2510? (don't quote me on that its from memory). I am also using WPA encription. I am currently messing with those setting to see if that helps.
I've been using Ubuntu for a while (though I would not consider myself an "expert") and have just gone back to school. I live on campus and connect to the network through an ethernet cord. On Windows, the download speed is 1 Mb/s by default, but if you go through and configure the network card (turning off the auto-negotiation and setting the speed to 10, duplex full) the download speed will increase to 10 Mb/s, a considerable difference. So, I tried to do this in Ubuntu by opening the terminal and typing the following:
sudo ethtool -s eth0 autoneg off speed 10 duplex full and all of a sudden, my computer isn't connecting to the internet. When I type: sudo ethtool -s eth0 autoneg on it suddenly starts working again.
I'm having problems with my wireless. It connects without any problem, but it is very slow. Actually I have the impression that the connection velocity is varies from normal to very slow, however the average connection velocity is very slow. I have been looking up the forums for more the one month with any success. I have tried to install the compac-wireless drivers and the kmod-wl with many different network setups. For sure it is not a problem with my home network, since it works fine with my other old notebook running fedora 11 or when I boot in the windows.

I have wubi Kubuntu installed and had no problems with wireless at home. Starbucks uses the Bell network for free wireless access, and in Windows I can use it without problems. It is the typical free network, that immediately asks you for a login name when you try to use a web browser. When I do it in Ubuntu at Starbucks, it sees the network and "activates" it, but when I go to Firefox, it does not ask for the typical login information. It can't find any web pages at all.

I have had no problem with it for months, and then all of a sudden my internet doesn't work. It says that it is connected to my router but i can't connect to the internet. Typical troubleshooting has not helped. Most advice I have gotten was to try installing the NDISwrapper, but Ubuntu won't let me install it without internet access (that, or the package I tried to use from my USB is messed up??).

Rebooting back to WinXP, it works fine. The 'sudo lshw -C network' command shows "disabled". Ubuntu sees it, its just disabled. The help file says to make sure its on. It is - there is no physical switch..I am VERY new to this, with no programming experience to speak of.

Configuring the interface manually, not using DHCP, allows the connection to complete. However, the internet is very slow. There is a 15-30 sec delay before website loading actually commences, and then another delay each time an ad must be fetched from another server.How can I fix this delay? I'm running Fedora 12 on an Acer Aspire One with KDE. The built-in wireless works without a problem EVERYWHERE except at work. It's a shared wireless connection using WPA/WPA2 security.I can connect but it's "hit-and-miss" if I can do anything with it. Somedays it works well for a few minutes then has a period of inactivity - then slow - randomly receives...It worked flawlessly when the computer was running Windows7 no one else has connectivity issues but I'm the only one using Linux.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly sure that this is an Ubuntu issue, as I've tried this on my windows computer with success.I'm running a minecraft server on my laptop, previously over a wireless connection but the data rates were too slow. On a wired connection, however, the server starts up and runs like normal but the port is not open when accessing from the network's public IP. I tested this with canyouseeme(.)org. I can get to it from other computers within the network by using a local IP, which to me seems a little strange as it seems to indicate that the port is open on the PC but somewhere in the router it gets confused due to being wired(?). Obviously I've forwarded the ports on the router (BTHomehub 2.0) with both TCP and UCP (it worked over wireless!). Any suggestions as to what might be causing this? I'm stumped.
