I'm having problems with my wireless card. The network manager won't allow me to turn it on. It is working in windows and in ubuntu, but I can't get it to turn on under fedora. I'm using a Lenovo B570 laptop and it uses the Centrino Wireless-N 1000 for wireless.
View 5 RepliesI am currently using Debian Testing, managing my wireless connection with NetworkManager and the Gnome nm-applet. Both have just been updated: network-manager from 0.8.1-6+squeeze1 to 0.8.2-6 and network-manager-gnome from 0.8.1-2 to 0.8.2-4.On installation of the new packages, I have no problems. However, on a reboot, I can no-longer connect to any wireless connection. I am not prompted on start-up for the password to unlock the Gnome keyring and when I left-click on the nm-applet icon and then click on a network to connect to it, nothing happens.I do not think this is a driver or NetworkManager daemon problem. If I run "nmcli dev wifi" or left-click on the applet icon, NetworkManager seems to scan for wireless networks properly and returns a list including the one I wish to connect to.

I red about aircraft-manager and installed Ubuntu 10.04 newbie, loving ubuntu already!).Installed aircraft-manager 12.1 but it doesn't open and when I shut down a messages informs me that aircraft-manager is not responding. So I thought it was Ubuntu 10.04 and made a Ubuntu 9.04 live USB. Same problem.I have a LG e200 notebook with ATI redeon graphics card and Atheros wireless adapter.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, after doing a 'yum update', I minimized the terminal and completely forgot about it - so I accidentally went ahead and suspended my laptop before it had finished. I resumed my laptop and noticed that yum hadn't finished 'cleaning up' the packages. Nevertheless, yum continued and the process finished. After an hour or so use of the internet (wirelessly), all of a sudden the wireless network disconnected, and NetworkManager crashed. I rebooted my computer only to find that NetworkManager now says that my 'firmware is missing' for my wireless card.

I would share my long awaited success with connecting my ubuntu laptop up to my universities (University of Western Sydney) wireless network. The rumors appeared true and they have finally implemented 802.11x authentication instead of that horrible java app netdirect. I am sure you've been cursing at its erratic stability. There is no linux documentation for airUWS-Lite nor anything more imformative than there windows/mac point and click steps found at [URL]. However with a few simple clicks you can have stable working connection.
When connecting make sure you have theses settings.
Security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)

I have a fairly new install of 10.04 on a Dell laptop (about a week). Everything was running well, connecting wirelessly to the interneet through my home router (WPA/WPA2). Today, for some reason, I lost my connection to the internet. The network manager tells me I'm connected to my router, but all the lines on the wifi indicator are gray and there is no internet access. I reinstalled the 2 sets of packets for my BCN4312 (bcmwl-kernel-source and b43-fwcutter ), but no change.

After installation, all my hardware is recognized, when compared to CentOS 5.2. I have been running FC8 on this IBM T23 with a D-Link wireless adapter. Using MadWifi this has worked fine with Network Manager disabled. But now I have nuked that installation and replaced it with FC10. Network Manager is nice, and I would like to use it. And it kind-of works. Network Manager recognizes my router and all my neighbor's routers, but I can't connect.

I noticed that it takes a couple more seconds before Ubuntu connects to my wireless network when it wakes up from sleep. I didn't have this annoyance when I was using 10.04, and only appeared when I upgraded to 10.10. It takes about 5-7 seconds before it indicates that it's connecting. When I was using 10.04, it only took a maximum of 2 seconds for it to indicate that it's in the process of connecting to my network.

I have a wireless router, but my desktop computer is connecting to it, or maybe to the modem, by an Ethernet cable. It has a built-in wireless card, so just as an experiment, I tried to connect to my network wirelessly. It didn't work. And not only did I not get any internet connection, I can't get any internet through the wired connection either. The internet works fine with Windows Vista (I'm dual-booting), as well as when I boot up Backtrack off of a Live DVD. I can still access my router's config page by going to 192.168.2.1 on a web browser, but I can't access anything else.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn setting up wireless connections I have ran into an array of problems. First, when I installed the new OS on my laptop I had to get the correct drivers and firmware for it to display and connect to any connections, had no problem here connecting to a secure wireless network (WPA or WPA2). I then installed Ubuntu on my desktop and had to find the correct driver for the Netgear WNDA3100v2 USB adapter, got it all installed with the Windows Wireless Drivers tool or w/e it is. This made all the available connections come up. I tried connecting with the WPA password I was given for the network and will not connect.
I had the guy managing the network change the one I connect to, to a WEP Passphrase Shared Key thinking this would solve my issue, still nothing. And also in doing so, now my laptop will not connect to the wireless network using the Passphrase. I do not want to go back to Windows, and I will be getting rid of my Lan connection soon so i need a solution to fix this wireless connection problem.
I am a Windows refugee who discovered Ubuntu as a way to save my files from my virus-ravaged computer. Had no installation discs for Windows, so when I had to wipe my hard drive and start over, I decided to give Ubuntu a try. I've had mixed success, but that's another post...
Right now, the problem is that I installed 10.10 two weeks ago and was able to connect to the Internet with no problems - until yesterday. Suddenly, our wireless network (the only one in the vicinity) does not come up as available in Network Manager. In fact, the entire wireless option disappeared. I know there are many posts and threads on here about this, but weeding through them trying to find an answer is more frustrating than actually dealing with the problem. I know the router works because I can post on this forum from the Macbook. I really like Ubuntu and would like to keep using it, but not being able to connect to the Internet now on top of the other issues I've had is making me doubt I want to continue down this Linux road.
P.S. When I attempted an analysis through System Testing, it said something about there being no proprietary drivers?
I am trying to do a command line installation.Finished the installation and my wireless card wasnt working.Did a "sudo ifconfig wlan0 up" and got it working.But for some reason wireless-tools is not installed thus I dont have iwconfig, iwlist, etc.The wireless works and connects fine off a liveUSB.So I am going to give info from this liveUSB run and maybe someone can suggest how I can set the right settings on the Command Line Installation I presume in the etc/network/interfaces.

My computer which uses F15, a Lenovo B560 laptop, have a BCM4313 and the apparent reason is that after that I installed the broadcom-wl and run "su -c 'modprobe wl'" so did I get the response "FATAL: Driver not found". However, the earlier non-existing wireless button in the network manager appeard after the installation, id est the broadcom-wl must have been in plase.

Currently my office use a Cisco Firewall which will only allow the ANYCONNECT utility to do the vpn connection. I found a Linux utility (OpenConnect) which will do the same thing, but allow me more flexibility with my networking needs.What I ultimately would like to have is to have a switch that I can connect any network device into it and be connected to the office. IE (my IP Work Phone and Computer) Currently I have is a computer with fedora 13 and two network cards eth0 (home network - connected to a router) and eth1 which I would like to connect a switch to. OpenConnect communicates fine and I can see the work network from the Fedora machine. It creates a vpn0 tun/tap device and I don't know how to pass communication to/from the eth1 device.
Do I try to iptables the ports for the phone and services I need on the computer? Or do I build bridge; and If I do what am I bridging. I have tried making a bridge from eth1 to vpn0 which reply's with unsupported device or something like that.Unfortunately my network skills are bit limited and my office says "it can't be done". Their solution is for me to buy a ASA5505 (or something device) and have a static IP. I would have to make it work as my router and even then it will only DHCP 10 ip addresses; which will cause a shortage of IP addresses in the house.
I have 10.04 installed on my HP MiniNote Netbook. If I plug it into the the ethernet directly, all is well, but if I only use the wireless, i get no DNS servers. And one of my wireless networks is on the same router as the wired connection. Also, wireless works just perfectly on my MacBook Air. So, I do not think it is the router. So why am I not getting DNS addresses? How would I set them manually? I can't figure out how to start network manager.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to set up a static IP on my laptop that connects via wireless to my home network. I have 11.04 installed on my laptop. When I try to use the manual IPv4 setting in the network manager the save option gets greyed out. I tried to edit the /etc/network/interfaces file but all the examples I could find on the net refer to eth0. I tried replacing this with wlan0 but this did not work. I tried installing wicd but I kept getting "Bad Password" errors even though I know the password is correct. A number of people recommended uninstalling network manager to get wicd to work but many other posts said that uninstalling network manager didn't help so I didn't want to go ahead and uninstall unnecessarily. Besides I figure if Ubuntu is distributed with network manager there must be a reason for having it. So what do I do to get a static IP address for the client on a wireless connection?

To start off I have a Rosewill rnx-n2x wireless adapter and a Dlink 4500 router. The problem is, the wireless network manager detects every wireless router in the neighborhood, except mine. I see this persons, and this persons, but no "My router Not yours". I even tried doing the hidden network setup and still nothing.
I have read that the rnx n2x isnt supported by linux, although I've seen solutions to make it work (which didn't work, mkdir command kept getting denied during make) link to what I'm talking about: [URL]. What I don't get though, is that if the rnx n2x isnt supported by linux, wouldn't I not be getting my neighbors connections to begin with?
I'm not sure if I have two seperate issues or one inter-related issue. The Network Manager applet wasn't appearing in the tray, found out it wasn't installed. Installed, still didn't appear. Tried installing WiCd, WiCd did appear but couldn't find any networks. I had installed restricted drivers previous, decided it was worth another look. Found that Broadcom STA Wireless Driver wasn't installed. Tried to install, it said it couldn't and said I should review the var/log/jockey which is....excessively long.

View 2 Replies View RelatedA couple of weeks ago my laptop's wifi started acting up, to the point that it didn't function. When I click the nwManager icon to being up a list of available networks, it is empty. If I try to create a new network, with the credentials of my modem, it appears to work, and asks for the password. After I enter the password, it seems to work for about 30 seconds (much longer than normal) but then it prompts me again for the password. This cycle continues indefinitely.

I've installed ubuntu 10.04 on a hp mini 110. I've used netbook remix on this same computer and had no problems with a wireless connection. In this case, network manager shows wireless disabled. I have installed the Broadcom B43 Wireless drive from Adminstration->Hardware drivers. No help! ifconfig does not
show eth1 and lspci tells me that the Broadcom BCM4312 Network controller is present.
I have a wireless USB (TP-Link TL-WN620G) adapter on F10( 2.6.27.38-170.2.113.fc10.i686). I have installed the drivers and it is detecting my router. But it keeps asking for network password with repeating a dialogue box although I entered correct password. I have configured the wireless configuration using NetworkManager.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen fedora initially starts up, the network manager shows all the available wireless connections available to me. However, when I select my wireless connection, it will go through the loading process where it shows the two green dots and the circular moving blue streak, then it prompts me to put in the wpa password.
This is where the trouble starts...when i input my wpa password, it will proceed to attempt to connect to my network but it never succeeds in doing so--it will keep on asking me to input my wpa password. when i finally get sick of doing it over and over again, i just hit cancel instead of retrying to connect.
After i stop trying to connect, the network manager no longer shows all the available wireless networks--the list is completely empty, and i can find no way to get the list to show up again, with the exception of restarting my computer.
I am able to connect to the internet with a wired ethernet, but id like my wireless to work.
I find it interesting that the only CLnetwork manager is nmcli(). Are there others you know and love?

So I wonder in the devices list is the SSID, in the single quotes, not the id the 'up' command requires? Or how do use the SSID? As far as the UUID, this option works for me, but I can only see the UUID if I had already once before connected to this connection. Is there any way to see the UUID of a new connection?
