Fedora :: Ugly Monospace Fonts In Evolution

May 27, 2011

I just upgraded my system from F14 to F15 and everything else is working quite well, but the monospace fonts in Evolution's mail windows are really ugly. Changing the fonts in Edit -> Preferences -> Mail Preferences -> General seems to have no effect on Evolution at all. Is anyone else having the same problem? Should I file a bug? Here's a screenshot of gedit and Evolution. In gedit, I've checked "Use the system fixed width font (Monospace)" and in Evolution I've checked "Use the same fonts as other applications". Still, the fonts in Evolution are different than in gedit and much uglier.

Ubuntu :: Monospace Fonts Not Rendered In Firefox And Epiphany?

Feb 7, 2011

I have some strange problem with rendering monospace fonts in FF and Epiphany. There is some attached example - most pages with some code blocks look like it, it is not possible to see the text, even after selecting it. I tried to change settings in FF of fonts, tried to change size, colors, font, but still it is not visible at all no matter what. However pages like that are displayed fine in "Chromium". Does anyone have an idea where do I begin solving this?

Fedora :: Java Applications Displaying Ugly Fonts

I just did a reinstall because I migrated to a new box, and I can't figure out what it was I did to fix the ugly ugly fonts Java apps display. I've switched to jre from openjdk, which was a minor improvement, however I recall seeing much better fonts in my java apps about an hour ago before I switched systems.

Fedora X86/64bit :: Ugly Fonts In GTK 32bit Applications

I'm using Fedora 13beta and KDE on x86_64 arch.
gtk 32-bit apps (eg: acroread, skype) have ugly fonts in their menus.
gtk 64-bit apps look great (and similar to qt apps).

The following packages are already installed:

OpenSUSE :: 11.4 - Ugly Fonts In Java Applications

Jun 24, 2011

I have installed Netbeans IDE on my Netbook and on my PC (openSUSE 11.4 32 bit and openSUSE 11.4 64 bit). On both has the UI a ugly font. I don't really know how to change it. I already searched the web but I couldn't find anything related. Have a look how it looks like:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us. And then the "original": [URL]. OK, this picture is already 3 years old but I don't think that Oracle would change Netbeans UI font to look creepy. How I can change it to normal?

Debian Multimedia :: XFCE - Ugly Fonts In Qt Applications

Jan 8, 2010

I use XFCE on Debian (squeeze) and I'm sick and tired of the ugly fonts in all Qt-apps. See below what it looks like in qtconfig-qt4 with a deleted ~/.config/Trolltech.conf. I've done some googling, but without any satisfaction. I've tried to change font (Font family drop down menu in pic), and some fonts looks as bad as the default (Sans Serif), and some look ok. Something seems to be fscked up.

Fedora :: Gstreamer Ugly From Source

Aug 15, 2011

I have this computer I actively use. Sys-admin forbids us from using third party repos. Compiling from source is allowed if a copy of the source sent to him. He made it clear he won't help unless system is fubar.Because I choosed fedora, I ended up with only pc in whole room which cannot play music and video. I have root access so;I got lame from sourceforge and gstreamer ugly 0.10.16 from freedesktop.I did '.configure','make' and 'make install' on lame and gstreamer. I wasn't able to read the whole stream of text flowed by make and make install, but other than few "defined but not used" errors I didn't seen any big errors.I tried play mp3 with totem but it failed. I tried extract the post and pre install scripts from gstreamer-plugins-bad-0.10.22-1.fc15.i686.rpm fo rpmfusion to learn what else needed to done after/before install, but post and pre scripts were empty. Do I have to do something else to get it to work?

OpenSUSE :: Version Of Evolution - Running The Evolution Mail System Under Fedora - 15 / KDE

Jul 26, 2011

I've been running the Evolution mail system under Fedora-15/KDE for about a month now, and it has some very serious problems. I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.

It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution

Fedora :: Error While Fetching Email. Evolution Version: Evolution 2.28.0

I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Ubuntu :: Over 1500 Fonts - Move Them To My /usr/share/fonts Folder

Jul 3, 2011

I have a folder with over 1500 fonts, I would like to move them to my /usr/share/fonts folder so that they can be used. Some are from Windows, some are just random extras. I've installed the msttcorefonts, but there are quite a few missing that make some wen pages look different.

How can I go about putting the fonts from my folder, into the appropriate /usr/share/fonts folder to be used? And how can I move them all? I can't drag and drop them, and mv FONT_NAME /usr/share/fonts for all of them will take a month or two. Is there a way to elevate my self to be able to just drag and drop them all? And which folder would they need to go into for them to be used in Chrome and Firefox?

OpenSUSE :: 3.2 Fonts Get Loaded To /usr/local/share/fonts?

Feb 23, 2010

I have just installed openSUSE 11.2 X86_64 on my laptop, I then used KDE to install lots of type 1 fonts for my printer. These get loaded to /usr/local/share/fonts/...These installed fonts are visible to KDE (KWRITE) and GIMP so I assume that the installation was O.K. When I start openOFFICE writer I do not see these fonts. The font selection appears to be the fonts located under /usr/share/fonts. I have not tried other ooo3 components. I assume that they are not going to see the fonts either.

I have searched google and it appears that /usr/local/share/fonts is the correct location for non-packaged fonts. Has anybody any idea what is wrong? I think I could move all the fonts to /usr/share/fonts and ooo3 would work but this seems to break the installation directory structure. I have considered symlinks but I don't like the idea of defining a font twice to Linux and creating the syslinks is more work than reinstalling the fonts if they are lost

Fedora :: 10 - How To Add New Fonts

Mar 27, 2009

Just sharing some progress with font instalation in fedora 10, because there is no more support to xfs or chkfontpath. Take a look at /etc/fonts/fonts.conf, in the beginning of this file you can find:

Code:

<!-- Font directory list -->
<dir>/usr/share/fonts</dir>
<dir>/usr/share/X11/fonts/Type1</dir>
<dir>/usr/share/X11/fonts/TTF</dir>

[code]...

To install true type fonts, just throw your fonts in one of these directories. You can put it in your own home if you want (~/.fonts). With this, you can install any fonts, like windows fonts, mscorefonts ... Don't forget to restart X and test with fc-list.

Ubuntu :: OpenOffice Very Ugly Formatting

I am simply fed up of using OpenOffice word processor. It's formatting and bullets and numbering system is a total chaos. Even when manually typing the numbers the OpenOffice word processor tries to be clever and "detects" that I'm trying to bullet my points and then mangle all the formatting again.Microsoft word was much better, I've been using it for many years and never faced such a silly problem. I think I'll switch back to windows just because of MS Word -- it had more features, looked better and nesting paragraphs is easy.

Fedora :: F13 - All Fonts Used By GUI On LCD Seems Bit Blurred

Aug 2, 2010

I just installed Fedora 13 x86_64 using default settings (after not using Linux for few years), everything went well, but the following question bugs me: All fonts used by Fedora GUI on my LCD (1680x1050 native resolution) seem a bit blurred, stretched, not as crisp as displayed by Windows on the same LCD, and also worse than what I see on my Mac notebook. Fedora fonts use more screen pixels and at the same time provide lower subjective quality, it hurts perception of the whole system . I wonder if it's a general problem with Fedora fonts quality, or I can tweak it somehow to get more aesthetically pleasing results.

(Yes, I know I'm the only user, but I'd like to learn how to do it on a multi-user system.) I've looked in /share/fonts and seen a number of folders containing font groups, but each of these fonts is complete in one file. Should I just dump them into /share/fonts or should I make a special folder, let's say /share/fonts/custom and install them there?
