Debian Multimedia :: XFCE - Ugly Fonts In Qt Applications

Jan 8, 2010

I use XFCE on Debian (squeeze) and I'm sick and tired of the ugly fonts in all Qt-apps. See below what it looks like in qtconfig-qt4 with a deleted ~/.config/Trolltech.conf. I've done some googling, but without any satisfaction. I've tried to change font (Font family drop down menu in pic), and some fonts looks as bad as the default (Sans Serif), and some look ok. Something seems to be fscked up.

OpenSUSE :: 11.4 - Ugly Fonts In Java Applications

Jun 24, 2011

I have installed Netbeans IDE on my Netbook and on my PC (openSUSE 11.4 32 bit and openSUSE 11.4 64 bit). On both has the UI a ugly font. I don't really know how to change it. I already searched the web but I couldn't find anything related. Have a look how it looks like:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us. And then the "original": [URL]. OK, this picture is already 3 years old but I don't think that Oracle would change Netbeans UI font to look creepy. How I can change it to normal?

I just did a reinstall because I migrated to a new box, and I can't figure out what it was I did to fix the ugly ugly fonts Java apps display. I've switched to jre from openjdk, which was a minor improvement, however I recall seeing much better fonts in my java apps about an hour ago before I switched systems.

Fedora :: Ugly Monospace Fonts In Evolution

May 27, 2011

I just upgraded my system from F14 to F15 and everything else is working quite well, but the monospace fonts in Evolution's mail windows are really ugly. Changing the fonts in Edit -> Preferences -> Mail Preferences -> General seems to have no effect on Evolution at all. Is anyone else having the same problem? Should I file a bug? Here's a screenshot of gedit and Evolution. In gedit, I've checked "Use the system fixed width font (Monospace)" and in Evolution I've checked "Use the same fonts as other applications". Still, the fonts in Evolution are different than in gedit and much uglier.

Debian Multimedia :: Fonts In Iceweael 4.0?

May 2, 2011

Just installed Iceweasel 4.0 and i must say, the fonts really looks shit See screenshot: [URL]... I thought this would be fixed with a newer version of libcairo but it seems that it is not that import to fix this shitty font. It's giving me a headache. To be honest, the fonts looks much better in Ubuntu (not that i now go back to Ubuntu for that reason). All the topics spent on the libcairo issue are mostly a waste of time imho if it is not fixed at the source. Well, i don't wanna nag about it. I only wonder, is there a good solution to fix it and help me get rid of my headache (besides taking an aspirin).

Debian Multimedia :: No Sound On XFCE

Nov 3, 2015

I was having a problem with the sound not going up to a high volume on my machine, so I tried following some online tutorials and ended up destroying the sound system on my machine. Now, instead of just having quite sound, I have no sound. The machine is a Dell Precision server and the attached files show my sound configuration. Ideally, I would like a way to make the sound louder (>100%), but now I will settle for just having sound.

Debian Multimedia :: VLC Fonts Can't Be Set With Qt4-qtconfig (Testing)

Feb 1, 2016

I've just set up an alternative testing installation starting from Jessie and I've instantly noticed that the appearance of VLC can't be set via the qt4-qtconfig application (as I've done so far in Wheezy and Jessie), in short VLC doens't respond at all to any setting changed in qtconfig .

Looking at the bug reports for qt4-qtconfig and particularly this one #564548 looks like there are indeed issues with qt4, and comment 17 states thatQt4 entered in "only security bugfixes" mode, so this won't be fixed.

Debian Multimedia :: XFCE Cannot Switch Between Users

Jul 4, 2015

System: Debian 8.1
DE: XFCE 4.10
DM: LightDM

The problem is that I cannot switch between users.I have copied a script from another site, but it will only open a new lightdm in a new display (tty8) while the other user's session is still active (tty7).

/usr/local/bin/gdmflexiserver
Code: Select all#!/bin/bash
dm-tool switch-to-greeter

In xscreensaver, the same thing happens. If I click New Login, it will open a new lightdm session in a new display.I have searched in Google and these forums for some time already and I could not find any solution.I have just installed Debian 8.1 and XFCE in this computer, migrating from Debian 7.8 and Gnome. What I want is the same effect (or similar) to what gdm/gnome does.I have also found a solution that's about installing xfswitch-plugin, but it will also install gdm3 and lots of gnome dependencies.

Debian Multimedia :: No Event Sounds In XFCE 4.6.2 On Sid?

Jan 24, 2011

I recently gave XFCE a try, after using Openbox for a long time and I really like it, so that I think I will switch totally to XFCE. All is working fine, except one thing: I really would like to have event sounds.

So I launched the Appearance-Module and checked under the Settings-tab both Enable event sounds and Enable input feedback sounds. Following the tooltip for the event sounds I also installed libcanberra, but I get absolutely no event sound.

[Code]...

I thought, maybe there is a lack of a sound theme, so I also installed freedesktop-sound-theme, but that didn't help. I did already searched with Google and in this forum, but have found nothing that would help me. I would be very happy if anyone can give me an advice what to check or has a link to a tutorial for this sounds.
