Fedora :: Temp 10′C Warmer In F15 Than Windows7

Jun 14, 2011

using acpi -t I noticed that my CPU temperatur is at around 60C while just using Google Chrome in Fedora 15.
In Windows7 doing the same thing, my CPU is at 50C.

Do you know maybe a little trick to lower the CPU load or how I can detect which background apps are not needed in F15/Gnome3?

In fact, F15 is running much much faster than Windows on my UL30V Laptop...

Ubuntu :: Possible? /temp/www/fake/ Contents (directory) Avaliable Through /temp/www/?

Dec 20, 2010

I have a web server whos DocumentRoot is:/tmp/wwwNow, /temp/www/fake/ is a directory that contains a series of other files/folders.What I want to do is access the files in /temp/www/fake as if they were in the root directory (/temp/www/)For example:

could either be located in "/temp/www/test.php"
-or-
located in "/temp/www/fake/test.php"

so "http://127.0.0.1/test.php" would essentially call both directories. Is this possible? Whould I do this through apache or through the actual file system somehow? (Like some sort of symbolic link?) I would love to hear your input.

Fedora Installation :: Boot Windows7 After Install 12

Dec 31, 2009

I have a laptop that has multiple partitions and was running Windows 7. I installed Fedora in a area of free space in the extended area, thus in a logical partition. Fedora is now running on the laptop. But, at boot time, there is NO BOOT MANAGER. The laptop just boots straight away to Fedora.

I know this has probably been covered, but is there an "official" procedure or document available to us newbies that I can use to recover my system such that it boots all of my installed bootable partitions (including Windows7)?

Fedora X86/64bit :: Grey Box In Place Of Flash Playback (with Temp Fix)?

Oct 13, 2009

When I play a flash video in x86_64 with the latest 64bit flashplayer I will often get a grey rectangle after a few secs rather than playback. This is 100% reproducible if I restart firefox after playing a flash video and try to replay it.If I start firefox from a terminal I can see "invoke_NPP_Destroy: assertion failed:" type errors. Logging off and logging back on fixes, so I investigated which process needs to be restarted. Turns out to be gvfsd, so if you get a grey box do this in a terminal (as a normal user NOT as root)

Code:

killall gvfsd
/usr/libexec/gvfsd &

then refresh the page and all should be fine. (In fact the problem does not recur for an entire session until I login again) If others could report whether this fixes the same problem I can submit a bug report.

EDIT: I am using libflashplayer-10.0.32.18.linux-x86_64.so from here

Fedora Hardware :: Realtek RTL8111E - Dropped Packets In Windows7 / F15 Dual-boot?

Jul 6, 2011

my NIC drives me crazy and I need some help to gather all relevant informations to file a decent bug report. Maybe someone could guide me through this process.My mainboard is an AsRock Z68 Pro3

[URL]

I use a dual-boot setup with Windows7 installed in parallel to Fedora 15-x64. Whenever I had Windows in use and jjust reboot the system into Fedora, the NIC does not work as expected. Instead it goes in an endless "em1: link up" loop which results in very low bandwith or even complete network timeouts. This happens in Firefox as well as with yum or ping.

If I directly cold boot into Fedora (after the power cord has been removed and the system got completely re-initialized) there are no problems at alll and I get a fast and stable network conection. This also happens with other linux distributions, for example SysRescCD.

Ubuntu :: Cannot Get To Install On Windows7 ?

Jan 16, 2011

I am new to installing Ubuntu and cannot get it to install on my desktop windows7 and can't see any obvious reasons why it won't work.

The Ubuntu home page led me to believe that the wubu download would be the easiest way to download and install ubuntu side-by-side with my windows7, but I'm not finding that to be true. Know I have now tried to download that windows ubuntu installer 3 times now and it fails every time.

I have complete admin rights to my desktop. After over an hour of dowloading I keep getting message "Permission denied" and it refers me to the log file.

The last few lines of the log files states:

General :: Mounting An Iso In Mnt/temp

Jul 12, 2011

So I mounted an ISO of MEPIS 11 in /mnt/temp, having understood that I can access the files. Well, no, I can't--not really. Almost all the files in the distro are part of the 1.2 GB "mepis" file that comprises the bulk of what's in the iso. I thought I would be able to look inside the distro's guts if I mounted the iso, which would probably have been helpful in explaining why my remastered copies of the ISO weren't any smaller even after I removed a large amount of the applications. (I wanted to modify MEPIS 11 to make it fit onto a CD.) If I can't do this, what is the practical use of mounting the iso and looking at the files?

Currently i have TightVNC viewer and Putty installed on my Windows machine. i use Putty to log into Ubuntu and start VNC server (i think its X11). I then start VNC viewer on the windows machine and log into Ubuntu as normal, however this is really slow and it takes a long time to refresh.

My local network is connected to the internet so i want to be sure that this is all secure even thought my router has a firewall.

Ubuntu :: Partitioning For Dualboot With Windows7?

Mar 4, 2011

I've got a new box (i.e. I can blow away everything on it) with

CPU=Atom 330
nVidia GeForce 9400M
4 GB RAM
single drive, single partition=250 GB
Ubuntu 10.10 installed

The box will primarily be used for ubuntu, but my GF also wants to stream Netflix on it. (I have not been able to sell her on the Amazon Instant Video--yet, anyway.) Since Netflix doesn't run on Linux, I need to install a Windows or OSX. I have media for w7 and wXP. I'm planning to install w7 on it, just because that's newer. Is there a reason to install wXP instead for this usecase?

Given w7, I can choose to dualboot or virtualize. I'm told the Atom doesn't virtualize well, so I'm planning to dualboot. I'm told that, when dualbooting linux and windows, one wants to partition first, then install windows, then install linux, so I'm planning to do that.

how to partition for this? My plan is currently to make 5 partitions: 2 primary partitions (one for each OS) and 1 extended partition (to hold linux swap and the homes for w7 and ubuntu)

Code:

primary partitions:
system (c:) for w7 = 20 GB
root for ubuntu = 20 GB
extended partition:

General :: Multiple Consoles - Used VFB As Temp?

Jan 11, 2011

I am attempting to setup linux in my embedded environment. I wanted to output the console display though the tty serial port and the vt. Since I don't have a frambuffer hw driver yet, I just wanted to use the vfb as a temp.

So, this is what I did in my configuration file:
CONFIG_CMDLINE="console=ttyS0,115200n8 console=tty0 mem=126M video=vfb:"
CONFIG_VT=y
CONFIG_FB=y
CONFIG_FB_VIRTUAL=y
CONFIG_DUMMY_CONSOLE=n
CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE=n

I would expect the tty output to go to the uart as well as the virtual-console; this does not seem to be the case, as no vt functions are called when I execute prompt commads - I can see the console in my serial terminal, and this all works fine.

Here are extracts from my boot:
Kernel command line: console=ttyS0,115200n8 console=tty0 mem=126M video=vfb:
...
Console: colour dummy device 80x30
console [tty0] enabled
...
Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 80x25
fb0: Virtual frame buffer device, using 1024K of video memory
Serial: 8250/16550 driver, 4 ports, IRQ sharing disabled
serial8250.0: ttyS0 at MMIO 0x3e000000 (irq = 99) is a 16550A
console [ttyS0] enabled
serial8250.0: ttyS1 at MMIO 0x3e001000 (irq = 9 is a 16550A
serial8250.0: ttyS2 at MMIO 0x3e002000 (irq = 97) is a 16550A
...

Here are my console binding results:
/ #
cat /sys/class/vtconsole/vtcon0/bind

/ # cat /sys/class/vtconsole/vtcon0/name
(S) dummy device
/ # cat /sys/class/vtconsole/vtcon1/bind

Ubuntu :: Why Does CPU Temp Fluctuate So Frequently
