i've recently been required to monitor my cpu's temp. for one, i have no idea how to do so, and for another i'd like to do so by continually seeing the temperature displayed on the top menu bar, similarly to how you can setup graphs displaying your cpu use, memory, etc.
View 9 RepliesI have a web server whos DocumentRoot is:/tmp/wwwNow, /temp/www/fake/ is a directory that contains a series of other files/folders.What I want to do is access the files in /temp/www/fake as if they were in the root directory (/temp/www/)For example:
could either be located in "/temp/www/test.php"
-or-
located in "/temp/www/fake/test.php"
so "http://127.0.0.1/test.php" would essentially call both directories. Is this possible? Whould I do this through apache or through the actual file system somehow? (Like some sort of symbolic link?) I would love to hear your input.
I have been adding programs to the menu the problem is it is started by a script, how would I find out how to do this? I have tried..

I need to boot off an SD card (installed Fedora on it with unetbootin), but my BIOS doesn't recognize it at bootup. I'm thinking Grub might be my only way of doing this. Google shows me ways to do this with Grub 1, but not Grub 2. Anyone know how to add an option for an SD card to the Grub 2 menu?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Win7 on a 2-disk RAID0 fakeraid. I then unplugged those drives and installed linux mint on a separate drive. I did it this way because if I left the drives plugged in, linux would jack up the fakeraid for those drives and make windows upbootable, and installing linux to the fakeraid itself is just too much of a PITA. So basically, this is the disk configuration, and there's no chance of me changing it.
Right now, I can boot into either win7 or mint by pressing F12 for the boot menu, and then selecting the drive the os is installed on. It would be nice if I could just add an entry to the grub menu for win7. I've used the menu.lst file before, but apparently all that has changed with grub2. I've checked out some of the grub2 docs and poked around in /etc/grub.d, but frankly, it seems to be orders of magnitude more complicated than it should be.
So I just installed OpenSUSE along side Fedora11 and it appears the SUSE grub simply removed Fedora from the menu.lst instead of adding to it... what exactly do I need to put to get it back into the list? My Fedora resides on sdb8 on my partition setup.

With the old gnome, you could just create a task bar short cut to any .sh and give it a png icon, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to do the same for activities. Searching online doesn't help, since all I seem to find is how to add or remove packages, with the UI, which I would never do to begin with, as I am a command line person. But for some reason, I am quite impressed with this activities menu thing, and I want to use it on the laptop

I just installed OpenSuse 11.1 alongside of Ubuntu 9.10. After finishing up the installation I find that I can't get into Ubuntu. I have tried adding Ubuntu to the OpenSuse /boo/grub/menu.lst but it doesn't seem to be working.

Originally I was using Mint's bootloader, but I'm ditching Mint soon for another OS so I'm migrating to Fedora's bootloader to make the transition easier. For a while I couldn't get Mint to appear on Fedora's Grub menu, but during that time I could still access the internet on Fedora. However, once I successfully added Mint to Fedora's grub menu, the wireless suddenly stopped working on Fedora (though it still works on Mint.) I can connect to the network on Fedora but it gives me the awesome "host does not exist" message when I try to ping anything. Any insight as to why this might have happened after I managed to successfully boot Mint from the Fedora boot menu?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy install of 11.4 (& 12.1) won't load unless I add the X11failsafe option to the loading of 11.4 (& 12.1) in the Grub menu.lst file. They bomb out after resetting the video when booting. I don't need to do this with my 11.3 install. Upon closer inspection 11.3 is using the nouveau nVidia driver, whereas both 11.4 & 12.1 are using the fbdev nVidia driver. My Hardware is a GEForce 6150SE and a Samsung SyncMaster 933SN. I have a couple of questions
1) What do I lose by adding the X11failsafe option in Menu.lst?
2) Can I, should I, replace the fbdev driver with something else. If yes, What? Nouveau?
I'd like to add my Dropbox directory to the places menu. I came over from Ubuntu, in I got used to the Ubuntu One icon in the places menu, so im missing dropbox from the list. Is there any way to add a shortcut to the "Places" menu?
