View 8 RepliesFrom MS-Word, there are certain graphics that one can create that feature linked boxes of text (I think they're referred to as smart graphics, or something). There's another MS program called visio that also creates these type of graphics. When I tried to open a docx file that had one of these graphics in it with openoffice.org (I'm using version 3.1 from debian backports on my lenny system), it was unable to read it. Is there a plugin or filter that I can add to openoffice.org to give it this functionality? If not, is there another program that reads these files?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe all know we can install a linux system such as Fedora 10 and use it. Being linux, one should in principle get the source codes for everything that has been precompiled (except the proprietary drivers such as nvidia) in the installation DVDs/CDs. Where are the source codes ? Is there a place I can download them ?
To avoid confusion, I am not referring to the kernel source that can be compiled to give a linux kernel, but that does not include the drivers, such as intel_drv.so.
To be more specific, the intel graphic i810 driver has been built into any linux system, but where is the exact source? One answer may be that primary source intellinuxgraphics.com. However, if anyone tries to download the every changing (i.e., keep updated almost every single day) driver source codes from freedesktop.org, it is almost certain that the source codes will not be the same as the one that is finalized in Fedora 10.
Before installing Fedora on my laptop I backed up my files onto a USB key. I wiped the hard disk and installed Fedora 12. I copied my files back to my home directory - but all the text files are now binary! Any ideas why this would be or how to fix it??---------- Post added at 10:54 AM CST ---------- Previous post was at 10:35 AM CST ----------Hmm it seems that only some files are binary. Looks like some .tgz files are corrupted too.---------- Post added at 11:02 AM CST ---------- Previous post was at 10:54 AM CST ----------Damn - I wonder if the files weren't completely written to the usb key before I removed it. I don't remember their being a safe mount option in Fedora 10 - but I definitely unmounted it before removing it from the laptop.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy system config is in my sig.I want to know if I have hardware acceleration using radeon open source driver.I did substantial searching on the internet and have come across this post:ATI Hardware Acceleration - XBMC Community Forum
I am doing all this because I have read on the internet that the open source radeon driver does not enable H/w acceleration properly which means that choppy performance while playing HD movies and / or while playing OpenGL games. Not that OpenGL games don't work, they just work very slowly even with Direct Rendering of Mesa drivers. Then there's this thing about Kernel Mode Setting as well which isn't available in the proprietary ATI driver.

What is the difference below these files?
1)Say an application is written and is having source files.
2)A file called source rpm package
3)A rpm package
In case of (1) we need to compile using either the make or if we know using appropriate compiler with proper libs included. Can I know what's the difference between (2) and (3)?

Is there a method at the command line to copy files from one location to another and retain the source files group and user?I'm migrating some MySQL files from one machine to another.I want to back-up the original files in the directory presently. They have owner:group of mysql, some have owner:group root:mysql and so on. To copy them under cli or Nautilus everything changes to root for I execute sudo cp or gksudo nautilus and copy via gui.
Since it is MySQL data I could simply do a dump of the database and restore it on the other machine. But there's about 20 db's and I want to do this via a copy for it will be faster - at least that is what I think.
