Fedora :: Sound Does Not Work Before And After F14 Upgrade?

Nov 9, 2010

So my sound doesn't work. Before I upgraded to 14 I was using 13 and it didn't work either upgraded to 14 and it still didn't work. So then I uninstalled pulseaudio and reinstalled pulsaudio still to no avail.

My sound card:
lspci | grep Audio
Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller
(I am using a thinkpad t42).

Then I typed into the terminal "pulseaudio" and got the output :
[root@zach-thinkpadt42 ~]# pulseaudio
W: main.c: This program is not intended to be run as root (unless --system is specified).
E: module-alsa-card.c: Failed to find a working profile.
E: module.c: Failed to load module "module-alsa-card" (argument: "device_id="29" name="platform-thinkpad_acpi" card_name="alsa_card.platform-thinkpad_acpi" tsched=yes ignore_dB=no card_properties="module-udev-detect.discovered=1""): initialization failed.
E: bluetooth-util.c: Error from ListAdapters reply: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited
Does that mean my driver isn't working?

Ubuntu :: Sound: Mic Doesn't Work - Audio Input Level Graphically Shown In Sound Preferences Shows No Fluctuations In Sound

Aug 3, 2010

I was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.

Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.

Fedora :: FC11 - Upgrade To FC12 And No Sound From PulseAudio

Nov 23, 2009

Pulseaudio setup. My pulseaudio was working when I was using FC11 and it stops working after I upgrade to FC12 using preupgrade. The system sees audio device and alsa is working correctly. No audio at all (system audio and mplayer) from Pulseaudio. I am using the onboard Intel audio. The verify from the alsamixer that the volume is not muted. I also tries all the combination of profiles in the pavucontrol and in some of the profiles, I can see the output volume bar is moving, but still no sound

Fedora Hardware :: No Sound Since Recent Update On F12 & Upgrade To F13

May 29, 2010

I have had no sound on my thinkpad x40 for a week now, first with f12 and now with f13. Under f12 I had sound until about 5/26/2010. I first noticed I had lost sound after some updates around that date. After not being able to solve the problem, I upgraded to f13, but still no sound.

pulsesound seems to be working. If I run pavucontrol and go to the playback tab, and then run paplay /usr/share/sounds/k3b_success1.wav from a console, it registers on the pavucontrol tab, but I hear nothing. kmix shows nothing muted. alsamixer shows nothing muted. pavucontrol shows nothing muted.

Fedora :: F14 Upgrade - Lost Audio On One Of Sound Cards

Nov 17, 2010

I have just upgraded to Fedora 14, with some hope that a F13 kernel crash issue would be resolved. Alas, not, and I have lost audio in one of my sound cards. I am using 2 sound cards in my computer. The first one (VT 1708 on the M2V MX SE motherboard) is used for FLDIGI (ham radio program). The other one (Creative Labs SB Live!) is tied to a speaker/microphone. At some point in mid 2010, I started getting kernel crash reports (not sure which kernel version this started), and the VIA VT 1708 audio controller stopped working. The SB Live! card works fine.

From mesg, I get:
[9.181148] WARNING: at drivers/pci/pci.c:105 pci_ioremap_bar+0x2c/0x5b()
[9.181186] [<c05c36ad>] ? pci_ioremap_bar+0x2c/0x5b
[9.181194] [<c05c36ad>] pci_ioremap_bar+0x2c/0x5b
[9.181299] ALSA sound/pci/hda/hda_intel.c:2510: ioremap error

I've just pulled out the SB LIVE! card to see if it is causing the VT 1708 controller to fail...there appears to be no interaction.

From lspci -v, I get:
20:01.0 Audio device: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT1708/A [Azalia HDAC] (VIA High Definition Audio Controller) (rev 10)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 8290
Flags: fast devsel, IRQ 17
Memory at <ignored> (64-bit, non-prefetchable)
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel

So it seems to know it's there. How to get my sound back (and get rid of this kernel crash every time I start my computer)?

Fedora Hardware :: Sound - Audio Not Working After Upgrade From 14 To 15

Jun 5, 2011

My audio worked completely perfectly running Fedora 14. I upgraded to Fedora 15 and discovered my audio no longer worked. As far as I know I didn't change anything. I do hear random pops and clicks from my speakers every few seconds. It's a bummer because this worked out of the box on Fedora 14 without any screwing around, and now it's totally broken in fedora 15. Everything else about my upgrade has been going pretty well, but life without sound is not nearly as fun and it's frustrating to have something not work that used to work just fine.

Here is some information and things I've tried:

- Just for grins I booted from the Fedora 15 live CD and observe the exact same issue as I see when I boot from my HD (just pops and clicks out of the audio.)
- motherboard: ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 (using onboard audio)
- lspci reports: 00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) (rev 40)
- cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 | grep -i codec reports: Codec: Realtek ALC892 (this is what the motherboard manual lists as the audio hardware.)
- I've run pavumeter as some have suggested and I see outputs on both left/right channels when audio is playing (but still hear nothing but clicks and pops.)
- I've run "alsamixer -c 0" and verified all my levels are maxed out.
- I've opened up the sound settings dialog box and made sure the correct hardware device is selected, tried different profiles, tested left/right speakers, still no progress at all.
- I know I have the speakers on and plugged into the correct output jack, but just for fun I tried plugging the speakers into each of the other possible jacks, but that didn't help.

- lsmod (fedora 15) reports:

Fedora X86/64bit :: Sound Does Not Work In 14

I've had this same problem in Ubuntu 10.10 and earlier and have never found a solution. I forgot how to change pulse audio and look at the MXSA because that was awhile ago and I haven't messed with Linux since. What have I done to try to fix this? I turned the sound up lol. It was on mute after install.

One thing I would like to mention that I have never asked about before is, I do not have a sound card, I used on-board audio from my motherboard. Could this be a problem?

Fedora :: Won't Upgrade / Get It To Work?

Jan 5, 2010

I've been trying to upgrade Fedora 11 to 12 for a while. I tried it when it first came out and it wouldn't install, it just gave me an error about how it couldn't install (in final step). I tried again today and said I needed to reboot to complete the upgrade. I clicked the reboot now button and it rebooted, but it was still Fedora 11 and nothing was any different to normal. I go back into preupgrade and it does the same thing again.

How can I get it to upgrade properly without doing a clean install

Fedora X86/64bit :: No Sound From Pulseaudio , ALSA After 2.6.40 Kernel Upgrade / Get That?

Aug 2, 2011

I just got the upgrade for the Linux Kernel version 2.6.40-4 on my Fedora 15 x86-64 box today, and the installation completed with no problems. However when I rebooted after doing the upgrade, I noticed that I had no sound. I use an ATI Radeon HD 4350 video card, and the opensource ATI driver, and use the HDMI audio from it for sound, since my monitor has a sound output jack on it. I've booted into the previous kernel (2.6.38.8-35), and sound works fine. I've tried with the new kernel in both KDE (my default desktop environment) and XFCE to get sound, and it does not work in either one. I've tried installing the VLC Phonon Backend instead of the GStreamer Backend, reinstalling Pulseaudio, reinstalling Alsa, modprobing the necessary modules needed for the card, checking all configurations with the available Pulseaudio tools (paprefs, pavumeter, pavucontrol), checked the volumes using alsamixer, and reinstalling the ALSA Pulseaudio plugin. After trying all of these, I can still get no sound out of any application, and I also noticed that Flash video plays at 2-3 times it's normal speed after the upgrade. Again, these problems do not occur on my previous kernel. Did I maybe overlook something, or can anyone else think of something I could try?

Fedora :: Skype Sound Does Not Work After Update

Mar 1, 2010

I am working for Fedora 12 installed on my laptop, and skype has worked. I was able to speak, able to listen and everything (besides some installation problems) was working fine.

Then I allowed Fedora to update(or bugfix or enhacement) some items of my system.

Now when I click on the loudspeaker symbol in the panel and open the mixer I see various tabe for sound input and output. Finally a good idea, and I even have a slide for skype!

But it does not work, I don't hear anything from skype (version 2.1.0.47).

I am able to record and playback via arecord/aplay, so in principal it should work. Any ideas what is wrong? Maybe a bug in a bugfix?

Some more informations for the pros:

Fedora :: F12 - Getting Sound To Work As A Normal User - A Simple Fix?

Feb 18, 2010

If sound on F12 works as root user but not as a normal user, try this simple fix! I've been struggling to get sound working as a normal (non-root) user since F10. Until now I've had to run X as root user to get any sound out of my machine.

Sound actually works OK now for me as a normal user. Here's how I fixed the problem.

First I uninstalled pulseaudio with:# yum remove pulseaudio Then reboot back to the hardware. You might want to keep pulseaudio, but I have no need for it. PA wasn't running on my system anyway.

Running X as root user, I did the following: As a test I opened a root shell and typed the following:

[root]# alsamixer c0 That started the alsamixer OK, and all the controls were accessible.

Fedora Hardware :: SPDIF Output Does Not Work On Sound Card

Dec 27, 2009

I have just bought a new PC with an ASUS M4A78-AM motherboard with integrated VT1708S 6-channel sound chip in it, so I freshly installed fedora 12 without any issues However, I can't get the surround sound working. I have searched many forums a lot, and haven't found any solution yet.It seems that even the SPDIF output does not work on this sound card, and that is what people talk about on almost every forum / mail list. So I was unable to find almost ANY information regarding ANALOG surround sound.

The motherboard has 3 jacks on it - green for FRONT / 2 speaker set; blue is the line in OR THE REAR-SPEAKER out, and pink is the microphone OR side speaker out in the 6-spk configuration. My speaker configuration is 4.1 [2 front, 2 back and subwoofer]. Line out does not produce any sound.I have uninstalled pulseaudio [sudo yum remove pulseaudio]Now alsamixer shows a lot of controls, but even if I unmute line out and set it to max, it is still not producing any sound.

Hardware :: Sound Drivers Not Loading In Fedora 14 / Make Them Work Again?

Dec 30, 2010

I am having trouble loading my sound drivers after removing pulseaudio. (Yes, I did try and reinstall pulse, did it again with ALSA, no luck).

It appears that my sound drivers are not loaded, because cat /proc/asound/cards returns 'no soundcards' and aplay -l returns the same... the ouput was quite different before, I am sure I DO have soundcards and they did work before in Fedora 14.

Any Ideas how can I make the sound drivers load again ?

Fedora Hardware :: No Sound On BenQ JoyBook S72G - PulseAudio Seems To Work?

May 25, 2010

first off, I wanna say that Fedora 12 really impresses me. I am a longtime Ubuntu User and Fedora really suprised me especially in terms of speed. Unfortunately my sound is not working. I had this problem a long time in Ubuntu, too. Then I discovered that I only had to switch off Exchange Front/ Surround in the alsamixer and everything worked fine. However, with the arrival of PulseAudio I don't get any sound from my speakers.

I went through some Guides but nothing seems to work. When I play an audio file I can see the amplitude going up and down in the Volume Meter of PulseAudio. So I think PulseAudio is working on the application side.

with
Code:
alsamixer -c 0
I can see that everything is set as it was in the passed for my soundcard. Exchange Front / Surround is switched off.
Code:
cat /proc/asound/

[Code]...

I hope you have any suggestions. Usually I look through the net till I find a solution. This time, however, I don't really know what to search for, since I tried everything I found except getting rid of PulseAudio which is my last option.
