Fedora :: Sound Stops To Work Randomly?

i have fedora 14 and sometimes the sound on my laptop stops to work.e.g. lately it happened when some system sound occured (pidgin message sound) and flash video started at almost the same time (videos)by lost sound i mean i can play music in amarok and i don't hear anything.no sound from flash or system sounds. aplay or paplay is not heard.i tried to log out and log in (restart the desktop session)i had to reboot to fix it.i tried to do "pulseaudio --kill" but that did not helped.any idea what should be restarted in this cases?

It has to be an update or something that cause this. I've done nothing differently from the other days I use this laptop. I have to keep relogging every now and then because the sound stopped working. I can turn the volume up but pidginrhythmbox, nothing makes noise anymore. it's random...it just started happening today and this is the second time the music went out. anyone have any idea of how to stop this from happening in the future?

Im Using FC14 and i like it so far. been trying around a bit and made searches for my problem but either im blind or im the only one with this problem (which i doubt) i have a problem of the keyboard "dying" on me mid using it. it doesnt seem to matter what im doing, it still goes dead on me sporadicly. ive tried changing to 4 different keyboards. PS2 and usb keyboards. but all 4 keeps sporadicly dying on me until i reboot and it works again until its dies.im wondering if the problem is in the hardware detection somewhere..if you need hardware information it would be nice if you posted commands so i understand what you need

I'm having a bizarre problem where my network connection stops working randomly. At first I thought it was a DNS issue since Firefox simply chilled out on "Looking up [hostname]" until it timed out, but after further investigation (pinging IP's, "host" and "dig" being unable to reach servers) it became apparent that I couldn't even access the DNS servers i.e. the Wicked Connection of the East was most sincerely dead.
There are two strange things about this: one, there are no errors except "timeout". The network manager is happy, Firefox is happy until the lookup fails... Two, the failures only start *after* DHCP configuration. DHCP configuration never has any trouble sending or receiving packets. I'm going to try static IP and whatnot to see if that helps, more information later.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat 64-bit on my desktop with a wired internet connection (with no firewall). For the past 2 days, I have observed that1. Firefox randomly throws up errors like "Problem loading page" whenever I click on a hyperlink. When I click on Reload, the page loads up just fine. This has been happening a lot recently..and I do not remember updating anything consciously. By the way, ipv6 is disabled in Firefox.2. The network stops working all of a sudden (usually indicated by the Firefox error). The Autho Eth0 indication is active, but I am unable to connect to any external machine.
3. Needless to say, this error is manifesting itself in apt-get as well. I get "something wicked happened" errors all the time, and am unable to download or install anything.That this is not a problem with the ISP is obvious because I also have Windows (from which I'm typing this, ironically), which is able to access the internet.Is this a bug in Ubuntu 10.10?

I have a USB mouse which randomly stop in Debian Jessie. It starts again if I disconnect and connect it again.
It can take a couple of hours or just a couple of minutes. The only thing I've been able to find is that it stops more often when I'm scrolling.
I have tried different mice with the same result. I recently migrated from Ubuntu where I did not have this problem so I doubt there is a hardware error.
I can see the syslog updating every time I connect the mouse but I can't see anything when it stops

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 since several months and I randomly have problems with the keyboard (PS2). Maybe 2-4 times per week the keyboard stops working all in a sudden. The symptoms related to this can be- the keyboard simply does not react any more to key press- during typing the keyboard gets crazy and fills the lines with the last typed character- opened windows move to the left when touching them at the top bar, keyboard does not react any more. When clicking on a panel menu the focus line is running permanently quickly through all items, and it's practically impossible to click on any of those (so even shutdown is difficult to achieve, and I might need to use a hard reset).
In nearly all cases the problem only disappears after reboot, just very rarely a logout is sufficient to get the keyboard working again. I googled for similar problems and found quite some people having problems with keyboard (and/or mouse) not working correctly under Ubuntu, but I have not stumbled over a similar error description as I have.Just some config parameters on my box: amd64, XOrg uses an Nvidia driver, 3D and Compiz are activated

Routinely, while I'm working on my laptop, the sound will randomly stop working and I can only get it back by rebooting. I can't seem to find any sort of pattern to what gets it to stop working, but I do have the following programs almost always running: Evolution, Chrome, Transmission, and Pidgin. I usually notice it first when Pidgin stops beeping when I receive IMs.
In the messages log I see lots of messages like this when the audio stops working:

On a whim vsftpd seems to stop working randomly and any attempted connection times out while waiting for the welcome message.It'll take a couple reboots and a couple "sudo service vsftpd restart" 's and it'll eventually start working again.AFIIK everything is at the most currant version. some windows fail to react to my mouse clicks (left and right). This has been starting to happen more and more often. However, one window usually stays working normally, while all others fail. Usually, it's the gnome-panel, but one time, this happened to Firefox. During this, I discovered that clicking a window above firefox, would go through the window, and Firefox would recieve it instead, as if the window wasn't there. Even stranger, firefox was not the active window, and all keyboard and mouse commands were received perfectly, however, the window titlebar wouldn't darken as usual. I can still move the mouse around, but when I keep it still for a minute, I see "View your Appointments and Tasks", pop-up, but it sticks to the screen afterward. A reboot fixes this problem, but only for a while. his also occurs when booting from the live Ubuntu 10.10 i386 Desktop Edition CD. I'm using a Logitech Mouse, but I don't believe this has to do with hardware, since this doesn't happen on Windows.

I've been running F12 x86_64 for almost a week now without significant issues, until now. I found this annoying problem with the audio system during video playback (both with VLC and with Kaffeine).It happens after a while playing a video: sound just stops (video continues). I am asking in the wrong place or anything like that, I tried to understand the Tutorials, but I am only human Oh and I am not a native speaker of English, So I also apologize for that...Okay enough apologizing, I will assume that you are all nice people and wouldn't have made fun of my stupidity anywayAs I said I am new to Linux and also to my PC. I bought it a couple of weeks ago and I tried to install Windows on it, but it was displayed in only 16 colors ( I assume this is not connected to my current problem but it might be...) and I couldn't fix that so I installed Ubuntu 10.4.something( It asked me if I wanted to upgrade to the newest version...) . Since then I have been really happy, I only had minor problem with the chat software but after I googled it I found a solution and I even used the console for the first time in my life.
The problem with the chat software is back now, but I don't care about that.My Computer randomly stops working and the screen goes all weird. It switches between a mix of white and black bars, something really colorful and a black screen with text ( I have the feeling it's different text every time) I am not sure what happens after that, because I always turn it off and restart it. It won't react to anything when it is in this weird mode. I don't think there are any special situations in which it happens and I can't reproduce it, it just happens when I don't want it to happen. A friend who uses Linux said it might be a temperature problem, he only knew what I just told you. I am not sure if there is a connection between the time the computer has been on and the time it shuts off...I really like Linux and I would love to use it without ith when I said that I got my PC new ( it was used though) I was trying to say that I don't know whether this is a Ubuntu problem or not

Not sure if I've listed the specs of this machine before, so I'll do it again. 'm running an HP Pavilion 760n with 512MB of RAM and (I think?) a Pentium III processor... not sure on that one right now. It's currently running a laptop version of Ubuntu 10.04.I went to log into my online classes tonight only to find that the computer wasn't responding at all. I did a hot shutdown and restarted it, and now the system isn't detecting the internet connection at all. It should be noted that the connection was working perfectly fine earlier today, perhaps 6 or 7 hours ago.I know it's something to do with my computer and not my router, as I'm on my wireless network from a Windows 7 laptop and it's connecting just fine.
In viewing another thread,..lems+-wireless, I found a bunch of commands that it was said would be helpful diagnosing this issue. That said, below is the output of all the commands that I could think of.

This happens randomly after a reboot: I can move the mouse cursor and it works perfectly only on the Unity sidebar or whatever it's called. I can fire up applications, but once they're up they completely ignore any clicks or mouse movements (the main menu does not appear on the top bar if I move the cursor in the location that usually makes it appear). They only recognise a click on the close/iconize/maximize buttons.
The mouse works: as I said I can move the cursor and it recognises clicks on the sidebar and the window control buttons; plus, it's connected via a KVM switch both to the Linux box and to a Windows box (from which I'm writing this) and in Windows perfectly.The pattern used to be this: usually while running Firefox, the mouse and keyboard stop responding, and sometimes the whole desktop graphics become corrupted. I can Alt+F1 and go to a text-mode console, but nothing short of a reboot "fixes" things. After the reboot, about two times out of five everything works, three times out of five I get the situation described above.
For the last few hours or so, however, no amount of rebooting and sacrificing goats to the gods protecting sociopaths and Linux software developers have been able to restore mouse functionality. I click on my username on the login windowhere it works perfectly), enter the password and then only the Unity sidebar works: again, the mouse cursor moves, only clicks (right and left) are ignored, as are hotspots. I have a problem with my wireless connection in ubuntu (natty with amd64bit) There seems to be intermittent disruption in my connection. Havent seen a pattern as yet, though it happens once a day. After that I cant get it to work at all and only restarting + reconnecting the USB device helps. Dont know what is going on.I have already read these pages : Commands and Wireless Troubleshooting.Here is my line of though1) Given that I am able to connect other devices to it while I am not able to connect through this desktop, I think the router is OK.2) I am able to work with it after restart + re-connection . And so the driver is OK and is loaded. My Acer's Wireless randomly stops working until you fully shut down and start the computer.(Not Restart but Shutdown->Powebutton) I am using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid.
I am wondering if anyone knows why it would stop working properly, and/or how to fix it?
And since this is a off and on problem I might not be able to provide details immediately from time of crash, since I need my computer on the wireless.
One symptom that really stands out is that the cooling fan is spinning as fast as it possibly can and processor usage is spiking around 80/200 on a process called phy0.(relevancy unknown)
As I was typing this post on my other computer, my laptop crashed and I lost the lshw -C Network output I had. If asked to, I will post the one from when it is working. Also I will post any other info you need from when I can.

I am experiencing sound problems after an upgrade to kernel 2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i686.PAE from kernel 2.6.29.5-191.fc11.i686.PAE in several games like Neverwinter Nights (linux binaries) and Warcraft III (PlayOnLinux). The sound stops and changes into a very choppy annoying sound. When I boot into the old kernel the problems are gone.

Playing a song works at first; then it quits after 1-5 minutes. If you select a different output device, it will work for another 1-5 minutes, but switching back to an already used up device will not play sound. Running 'sudo killall pulseaudio' resets everything and each output device works for another 1-5 minutes. This is on on 9.10.

when I restart my computer I have no sound what so ever, the volume icon is just 3 dashes, and if I try to shutdown it brings me to the login screen, with no way to shut down except for holding down the power button.I'm using an Acer Aspire 4530.I didn't have this problem with Ubuntu 9.10.

I am browsing or chatting with someone or doing whatever, and the screen will randomly go black and the sound will be cut off as well. The computer doesn't shut off, it's not in Suspend mode. All processes are still running when this happens. And it doesn't come back.

This is one of two niggles I've had in migrating to ubuntu, which I must say is (otherwise) absolutely fab.
Problem 1 is an 18 month old "legacy" ATI card, which refuses to be fixed.
Problem 2 (I suspect) is more solvable.
When listening to music, (either from ..... or rhythmbox) after an indeterminate period of time, (it varies substantially from around 5 mins - 1 hour) the sound cuts out without warning. Videos continue to play, but in silence. This silence affects the browser as a whole (chromium). A workaround for this has been to simply restart the program, but this is becoming quite annoying. i upgraded to 10.10 several days ago. this is the second time i've had this problem since then, but the first time it was just a vlc problem, solved by restarting that program. now it's affecting vlc, audacious (tested to see if midis were affected, too, which they are), chrome, and firefox, and not just flash -- i tried the .ogg file embedded in this page, under "lyrics," and it had the same problem. and while typing this, i've heard system tones similarly afflicted. it wasn't happening earlier today, and i can't think of what might have caused it.
like the topic says, the problem is that the sound in all these environments has become what i can only describe as "robotic." like it's extremely compressed. evil r2-d2. it's not entirely divorced from what's supposed to be heard, because i've tried various videos videos with music and the rhythm is distinctly audible. in general, it's loud when it should be loud and quiet when it should be quiet.
sometimes the melody is distinguishable, too; it works best if there aren't many different sounds supposed to be audible. i can make out the melody in that "waltzing matilda" .ogg, for instance, and "tsubasa wo kudasai" isn't too bad -- i can actually make out the lyrics and the piano melody at the beginning (though i'm sure the k-on! version would sound much worse). the bass still translates into the same loud, robotic, constant-pitch sounds. (no, i'm not sure what note i keep hearing. middle c, maybe?) "wakko's america" has a lot of its vowels and consonants recognizable as well, probably because of its relative simplicity.
"bohemian rhapsody" is more problematic, but i can still make out the lyrics in the first 15 seconds or so, though they're still at that constant pitch. this, though? i can barely make out what some of the trumpets are supposed to be playing. this mario paint composer video is the closest to normal of all the ones i've checked, though it's still scratchy and all the "hearts" play that same bass note.

I was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.
Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.

I installed kubuntu over ubuntu (both 9.10) this morning. in the past have had problems with suspending my laptop on ubuntu, so i tried on my new kubuntu. it entered suspension, but when i came back, all i saw was the login screen and the mouse. But nothing worked. It was just frozen. So i did a forced shutdown (held the power button down till it cut off). When i started it up again, there was no audio, no startup jingle. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 up-to-date in my laptop HP Pavilion dv4-1290br.My sound seems to randomly get muted, after a few hours the laptop is on. I've checked the volumes, I've compiled and installed the very latest ALSA driver, tested it trying to play music and changing the volume in hardware and software. Nothing works. The sound simply gets muted until I reboot.

v been trying to fix this for a few days now, and the stress has been building up.
