Fedora :: Since TeamSpeak 2 Doesn't Come In A Nice RPM Anywhere
Oct 21, 2010
Since TeamSpeak 2 doesn't come in a nice RPM anywhere, I am under the assumption that I have to go to TeamSpeak's website, download TS2, and install through their script. I did all of that, and I can successfully launch TeamSpeak, however there is no sound whatsoever. No mic, and no speakers either. TeamSpeak automatically forces mute microphone and mute headphones on me, and I can't uncheck them. Therefore, something must be wrong with TeamSpeak and my sound setup.

I want to set my main PC as a remote desktop so I can use it for programming and data storage remotely. I plan to control it with my netbook running Ubuntu Netbook Remix. If I disable compiz I can successfully connect and manipulate my desktop remotely, but I can't do it with compiz enabled on any settings. Is there a way to fix this issue? Would I have the same problem if I installed KDE?

Not sure where to ask but can we get teamspeak 3 in the repo ? Version 2 is not used anymore and the people over at [URL].. said it was ok to add it to our repo as long as we do not modify it.

i'm trying to set up a radio server with icecast2, ices2 and teamspeak.
On my old server with a snd_hda soundcard it worked:
- people speak on a teamspeak2 channel
-- server with a teamspeak2 (aoss emulated) process "listen" people
--- ices2 capture sound from soundcard and stream with icecast2
Now i got no soundcard and i try to replicate my scenario using snd_dummy. Is it possible? I created my fake /dev/dsp used by teamspeak (no emulation) and seems to work, ices2 still don't start because "ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1240_snd_pcm_hw_open) Invalid value for card" if i use hw:0,0 as device, "ALSA lib pcm.c:2144snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM /dev/dsp" if i use /dev/dsp. Missing PCM channel, as far as i understand. How can i solve? No "modprobe snd-dummy" parms seems to create PCM channel (as alsamixer shows) and ices2 won't start without.

I have Ubuntu 10.04 x86 installed, trying to get teamspeak 3 beta30.I have followed this guide: http://robert.penz.name/296/howto-in...u-10-04-lucid/
And can not get my network setup correctly to allow people to connect externally from my LAN. I have forwarded every relevant port I could find to the computer hosting TS, I forwarded them first as their respective protocols, and then as the combined UDP/TCP. I tried Forwarding single port numbers, and then port ranges.I have also tried uninstalling selinux.I have tried connecting directly to my cable modem with the server.I had this working perfectly three months ago with all the same software, using the same guide I listed above.The only thing I can imagine has changed is my operating system itself with system updates.
My network looks like:
Comcast cable modem--->Netgear WNR3500L Router----->Ubuntu 10.04 x86 desktop edition
what else I could possibly check? I can connect to and manage the TS server fine using localhost:9987 or 192.168.1.x:9987, it just wont allow any connections from outside the network.

I have freshly installed an Ubuntu 10.04.1 by internet.
All is running well, but my nice values are all set to 0. Is there a script that handles these at boot time? How can I reset them to "appropriate" or "normal" levels (e.g. not all at 0)? I know in other installs, my nice levels vary depending on the process and the user.
Attached is a screen shot of my gnome-system-monitor, and aside from init, which I had set to -15, all others are at 0.
Computer specifications:
Linux AMD-LNX000 2.6.32-25-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 17 20:05:27 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+

All my applications seem to be running at nice of 19 except bash and daemons which are running at 0. My understanding is that the default nice value is either 0 or 10 (forget which) but not 19.Ran search in /etc/sysconfig/ editor and no results for "nice" and looked at the bashrc files and again no lines contain "nice".

What is the default nice value for processes?The setpriority() function sets the nice value of a process, all processes in a process group, or all processes for a specified user to the specified value. If the process is multi-threaded, the nice value affects all threads in the process. The default nice value is 0; lower nice values cause more favorable scheduling.

I'm currently running on a really old computer with one proc and little memory. It's just enough to get skype running but it only works well enough if I change the nice level to -5 or lower. Now the person that uses skype in the house is really the wife, I don't want to teach her how to open htop in command line, fine the pid and then use the correct command to change the nice.What I am looking for is a script (sorry I don't know thing one about programming/scripting) that will change the nice priority periodically for all pid that are skype. This way call processes will get reniced as well. I know better then to run it as root/sudo, but I am at a loss (even searches came up with not much) on how to do this.

Does anyone know the class name for Empathy's chat windows and buddy list? On Ubuntu 10.10:
System->Preferences->CompizConfig Settings Manager->Window Management->Place Windows->Fixed Window Placement
Trying to grab the Empathy window class doesn't produce any results and adding "empathy" as a windows class to control only affects the "about empathy" window and not the conversations or the contact list.
It'd be nice if Empathy behaved like the rest of my programs and allowed me to restrict it to a specific workspace. Not sure what class I should be using.

my idea is to have gvim working like gedit in ubuntu 11.04: when you open a file thru unity's dash, and if there's already an open editor, it opens the file in a new tab.To make nautilus open more than one selected files in gvim's tabs, i used to change the exec line in /usr/share/applications/gvim.desktop to "Exec=gvim -p --remote-tab-silent %F". This trick is working ok in nautilus and also in unity, just like the way I was planning.
However, when i try to open gvim itself without specifying any files (from unity's dash or a launcher set) it fails. Can anyone please help me with this ?

My cpu is set via Gnome-power manager to automatically speedstep under demand....
the thing is i have a few nice level 19 processes running most the time that eat up all the idle time, this forces my clock speed up and as such makes the fan noisy and uses more power...
basically what i would like to do is to ignore process load with a nice over a certian level when determining weather to speed step.
