Debian :: Server Monitoring Tool (RAM / CPU And HDD)
Sep 2, 2011I was looking for some software to run on my Debian vServer which monitors RAM, CPU and HDD usage. This tool should not require Gnome/KDE, so I guess I'll end up with a PHP tool. I did some search but came up with nothing. I'm using Parallels Power Panel (there might be a plugin or something like that?)

I can't use one of the free web-based services because the servers I'm monitoring are closed to the outside internet. I have internal client machines I'd like to install the monitoring tool onto that can check specific URLs in both HTTP and HTTPS. Then email a notification when something stops responding. It would be nice to have a tool that is platform agnostic (written in perl, python, etc.) so I could have flexibility in what type of client machine I use for the monitoring.

May 1, 2011This is my first day with ubuntu 11.04. First impression was great but now I have a problem.
I tried to change the desktop switcher to rotate cube. On ubuntu 10.10 I had installed compiz fusion. So I went to compiz setting, I looked for rotate cube and I ticked it. When I did this a couple of windows asking about enableing and disableing poped up, and unfortunatley I clicked them without reading. I assumed they were just interface related...
Know when I open my laptop I don't have any main menu bar, or tool bar at the top of the desktop nor application icons on my left. I tried "CTRL+ALT+T" but the terminal does not open. I tried opening with recovery mode but unssuccessful.
General :: Need Tool For HDD Health Monitoring
Feb 12, 2011I wonder if there is any tool that can read health of my HDD's? There are tons in windows but what options are there in Linux? I would really hope there is a tool a can install without using terminal cause I dont have web access for the Xubuntu right now. If anyone aware of such a tool, preferable a .deb file so I can easily install without hazzle. Also I hope tools like that are not littered with tons of dependencies. Cause those dependencies are a major challenge without online connection. If there exist any smart terminal commands that will let med check health status pls let me know and pls write down the command. I have enabled the s.m.a.r.t in BIOS.
I have 4 drives running Raid 0 if that matters.

I only have shell access to the server, and need to monitor outbound network traffic from my web service. Is there a unix command that will allow me to monitor all outbound traffic? I'm thinking fiddler, but a unix version? I've heard of things like ntop and iptraf, but I don't think those will help me in this instance.

Jun 3, 2010We are try to install Fedora 12 or Fedora 13 x86_64 on HP Server Blade ProLiant BL460c G6. And when the installer try to find storage devices - it can not find any hard drivers. We are have message on screen - "Finding storage devices" and the installation process is not continue.... Fedora 10 and Fedora 11 x86_64 are installed very well. The device /dev/cciss/c0d0 is present in system and all it partitions - c0d0p1, c0d0p2 ... Command fdisk -l /dev/cciss/c0d0 has no any output.

Ubuntu Servers :: Cciss Driver Vanished From LTS Netboot?
Jan 26, 2010I tried to build a HP DL380 today, and the drive wasn't detected. Suspecting hardware issues, I tried it on a 360, same issue. We built these machines before with no problems I used the 8.10 install on our PXE server, and it worked fine. I suspect it's related to the upcoming 8.04.4 release, perhaps a new kernel has been inserted and has missed the cciss driver? Booting using 8.04, and running find /|grep cciss, doesn't find anything. I can't remember the last hp 8.04 build I did, but it was in the last month or so. Doing it with 8.10 finds the driver. (this is the 32 bit install)
