Fedora :: Rename JPG Files To Creation Date

Sep 2, 2009

I have a list of .jpg files from two cellphones that I would like to rename to the file creation date... but so far I can't seem to find a suitable script (or anything remotely close to what I need).

These are jpg's snapped on cellphone cameras, so no EXIF data exists.

Ubuntu :: List Files By Creation Date?

Aug 19, 2010

I'm looking for a terminal command that gives me the latest created folder in a directory tree.

Code:

ls -lR --sort=time --reverse

this i almost good, but a) it gives me files (rather than folders only), b) it sorts the files by folder (rather than just giving me a plain list of everything) and c) it takes way to long.

what i want:

Code:

2010-08-01 ./path/to/folder/a
2010-08-03 ./path/to/folder/b
2010-08-06 ./another/folder/c

General :: Adding A Files Creation Date To It's File Name?

Sep 17, 2010

I have some basic experiencing creating simple scripts/making directories/changing permissions/etc. but I'm stumped on this one.

I have two linux boxes. I have a script set up on box 'A' to SCP into box 'B', grab a copy of a database backup and store it on box 'A'. It looks like this:

scp root@X.X.X.X:/blah/blah/blah/dump.23.gz /home/blah/DB_Backups/

I have generated a public key on box 'A' and placed it into the authorized_keys file on box 'B', so a password is not required and the file copies over successfully when the script is run. On to my problem...

I need to know what date the 'dump.23.gz' file was originally created when I'm viewing it after it's been copied to box 'A'. If I ls -l on box 'A' it only shows me the date it was created on box 'A' when it was copied.

What would I need to add to my script to append the backup's original creation date on box 'B' to the filename so that when it gets copied to box 'A' I know when the backup was created on box 'B'. I'm sure this is probably confusing. I've done lots of searching and can only find information on how to append the current date and time to a file name. I need to append it's original creation timestamp to the filename when it copies over.

General :: Merge Files By Creation / Modification Date?

Oct 4, 2010

I have a folder with hundreds of .txt files (logs of some java application) that I have to merge in to one single .txt file. This application produces a new log file everyday:

day1: logFriday10September2010.txt
day2: logSaturday11September2010.txt
...
day8: logFriday17September2010.txt
...
and so on...

I could merge the files easily with "cat" and ">>" however, the problem is that I have to do it by taking into account the date (creation or modification) of the file.

If I simple use the cat command the output file will receive for example, all Fridays in a row, then all Saturdays, etc. and in that way I'm not considering the date.

I've searched for the options of the find command, since the files after creation are not modified...I try to use this for example:

$ find . -newer <some old file>

but that lists me all files after that <old file> and not by correct date.

Ubuntu :: Sequentially Number Files Based On Date Modified - Rename Cli

Nov 8, 2010

Sequentially number files based on date modified (rename cli)

I'm almost done a larger script which takes all the pictures in a folder, converts it to video, and emails it to me. Everything worked fine until I realized the picture filenames weren't always starting at 1, then ffmpeg chokes.

I have a bunch of files in a folder which I need to rename to:

I don't want to install any additional packages and I'd like this to run in a single command if possible.

If not possible, then a bash script would work too.

Software :: Change Creation Date Of .mpg / .avi Videos In Digikam?

Feb 16, 2010

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and have been using digikam to get my photos and videos in order. A lot of the creation dates are messed up, but I have been using the "adjust time and date" tool in Digikam to ge the photos set to their correct creation date.

However, when I try to do that on a .mpg or .avi I get an error that reads "Unable to adjust metadata in ****.mpg" I've tried opening the videos in other programs, like avidemux and cinelerra, I even tried opening the properties section of the videos. I haven't been able to find a way to modify the creation date of videos.

Is there a way to change the creation date of videos on Ubuntu? I would prefer to use digikam, but at this point I'm open to anything. Do I need to download a plugin? A program? Use a command line command?

General :: Copy To A New Directory And Rename With Date Stamp

Oct 25, 2010

Newbie 1st post here. Trying to find the most efficient way to copy a file to a different directory and rename it with a date stamp extension. Looking to accomplish this with one command if possible.

File = make_file
Full path /home/user1/bin/scripts/make_file

would like to move to the following directory /home/user1/bin/scripts/archive/

I'm trying to find out how to use command substitution along with the date command that when I copy the file to the archive directory it gets renamed with a time stamp extension. It should look something like "make_page_12:00:00-24-10-2010" I've tried a few different combinations using the cp and mv commands but can't seem to get it to work the way I want to.

In the Windows world where I came from, Irfanview freeware easily renamed a large folder of JPEG photos by EXIF time & date stamps, appending a unique number if the time and date stamps were the same. Is there an equivalent rename-by-EXIF information batch command in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid? For example, change (based solely on EXIF information): FROM:DSC_0001.JPG TO:20110224_09:34:56am.JPG

I used autorename / ARen for windows back in the day when I was still on XP. What I could do with the tool was:a) Sort the files by date of creationb) add an increasing number at the beginning of the filename based on the position in the sorted list.

Software :: Making A Bash Script To Read In Different Files And Rename Output Files?

May 7, 2009

Until now i haven't had to dabble with bash scripts.

I have a program that reads in data files. These are named datafile01_R, datafile01_G, datafile01_B, they then increment, so datafile02_R etc i have about 600 of these. the program reads in 3 data sets at a time from each run, so files_01 r, g, and b.

The program then does its magic, and outputs about 40 different files, depending on the file, they gone to folders named R, G, B, psa, or tracking.

The program itself has configuration files to say where the files should gone when analyzed, there is also the config files that reads in the data sets.

At the moment i have to run one set of data, then go in and manually change the input file location, and run again. But, doing this, even though a different data set, the new set overwrites the old set in one of the output folders. So i need a way to increment the output filenames after they are written and before the program is run again with the new data set.
