Fedora :: Possible To Install TightVNC-client?

Dec 24, 2009

I'm accustomed to using the tightvnc client to view servers running vnc. Since installing Fedora, I see that it uses Tigervnc for everything, and there is no tightvnc client available. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, especially since Tigervnc seems more functional. The problem I'm having is that there are "artifacts" when using tigervnc to connect to one of my servers. It's so bad, that I can hardly use it to view that server. I've tried to change some of the options in tigervnc, but the app just crashes when I try to save the changes.

Anyone else experience this problem with tightvnc? Anyone tried installing one of the old tightvnc packages from rpmfind.net or rpm.pbone.net?

Ubuntu :: Viewing Desktop Using Remote Client (Windows TightVNC) Doesn't Work

Apr 30, 2010

When either of the proprietary Nvidia drivers are enabled, viewing the desktop using a remote client (Windows TightVNC) does not work. The initial remote screen display is ok, but no updates to the remote display occur. Reverting back to the non-proprietary driver solves the problem. I have also tried using a 10.04 Live CD and used Remote Desktop Viewer on the client machine, and it behaves the same way.

Red Hat :: RHEL5 - How To Install TightVNC 1.3.10

Feb 2, 2010

I need to get TightVNC installed on RHEL 5.

I downloaded and extracted tightvnc-1.3-.10_unixsrc.tar.bz2. I have directory called vnc_unixsrc. I went into this directory and tried running xmkmf but got the kick back saying command not found. After doing some searching around looks like i need imake. So I ran yum install imake, installed imake. went back to my vnc_unixsrc directory and tried runnign xmkmf again (failed) did some more searching and looks like people recommended I reference the path to xmkmf. So, while I was in vnc_unixsrc I tried /usr/bin/xmkmf and I get:

This doesn't look right.... Lost here... should I try to execute make World next? or I do still need to figure out xmkmf first...

such package doesn't exist for fedora, or so it seems.

is there such a package in the fedora world? if not, how do i go about setting it so it is installed and automatically runs upon startup?

OpenSUSE :: 11.2 TightVNC Server Immediately Disconnects?

Mar 17, 2010

I am trying to run VNC server on a standard OpenSUSE 11.2 Gnome Desktop installation.I have done this succesfully with SLES for sometime, however, my experience with OpenSUSE 11.2 is that it doesn't work out of the box!!

I am using XP Pro VNC viewer Free Edition 4.1.2 to connect.

I have removed "localhost" from the # special IPv6 addresses in hosts. This fixes the black screen issue for me. All appears well until I disconnect and retry the connection after 5 minutes or so. Then VNC client makes the connection and then immediately disconnects. It's a no go from then on. If I reboot OpenSUSE 11.2 it works again but then reconnect fails again after the same period of time.

I am trying NX now as an alternative. However, I would much prefer to use VNC.

General :: Can't Use TightVNC To Connect To SuSE From Windows?

May 5, 2010

Have TightVNC 1.3.10.0 installed on WXP. Can connect to Ubuntu 9.10 system running natively on its own system without problem. Have OpenSuSE 11.2 running in a VMWare Server VM on a W2K3 server on yet another system. SuSE VM is web-aware, I can get out to the web and regularly receive SuSe updates. SuSE VM has its own IP address which it got from DHCP. I can ping the SuSE VM in the W2K3 server from my WXP machine. W2K3 firewall is disabled. When I point TightVNC at the SuSE VM, it says it can't connect. When I open a browser page to the SuSE VM at port 5801, I connect, and can log in and work as usual. When I click on the options tab at the top of the screen, a window opens titled "TightVNC Options".

I use opensuse 11.4 with TightVNC Server version 1.3.9. I use french keyboard mapping (yast configuration). When I connect with putty via ssh all is ok (keyboard mapping). But when I use tightvnc viewer on windows the mapping is not correct.I've verified many time the configuration of the keyboard in yast (graphical) and desktop options (french mapping). I can't map correctly. It seem there is no issue with direct attached keyboard.Another strange behavior is the shift key. I want to use . (need to press shift + and this put a >. But sometime if I press "shift + ," before then "shift + ;" it works.

I've passed long time on google and find no answer yet.Is there a issue with tightvnc server ?A bug with tightvnc viewer ? (I've tried with realvnc and same results).

Ubuntu :: TightVNC - D Key Minimizes Current Window On Server

Nov 11, 2010

When accessing the server from any client, the 'd' key minimizes the current window on the server (not the VNC client itself). Every other key seems to work fine and I can use the key combo <ALT>-d to issue a 'd', but that is less than convenient. I saw this post [URL] which said to use gconf-editor to set a keyboard layout, but that didn't fix the problem.

Slackware :: Corrupted Graphics In TightVNC After Upgrading To Slack-13.0?

Nov 13, 2010

I've recently upgraded from Slackware 12.2 to Slackware 13.0 and so far everything works fine with one exception: the TightVNC package that comes with Slackware-13.0 (in /extra) produces a garbled desktop. Applications look fine, but the default desktop of 13.0 is corrupted. Restarting the VNC server doesn't solve the problem. Before the upgrade, I had 1.3.9 compiled from source. I have just installed the 1.3.10 package that came with Slack-13.0 on top of what was there, hoping it would overwrite old files as needed (couldn't find an automatic uninstall procedure for 1.3.9).

I have attached a printscreen. Notice the taskbar and the top left quarter of the screen. Firefox seems to be rendered properly though. Has anyone encountered this before or may have a clue what could be causing it?

OpenSUSE :: When Started Configuring VNC It Appears That Tightvnc Is Installed By Default?

Jun 13, 2011

I recently installed opensuse 11.4 having come from 11.1 and when I started configuring VNC it appears that tightvnc is installed by default. I enabled remote administration and open firewall ports in YAST and found that the tightvnc viewer connects to my server ok. I do have a couple problems though;1. the password I set up when manually launching vncserver for the first time is not requested.2. When I launch a viewer connection it appears that an existing session is not being connected to since I log in as a user through the typical suse login screen and when I exit the session, all terminals and apps launched during that session are ended. On my 11.1 installation, after exiting a session all work was persistent and not ended.

OpenSUSE Network :: Xvnc, TightVNC And The Missing Pound () Sign?

Nov 17, 2010

I am running 11.3 with Remote Admin(VNC) turned on. This has installed TightVNC.I also have also enabled xinetd to manage the startup of new (incoming) VNC requests. All this is working just fine. So, what's the problem, you ask? Its that missing Shift+3 symbol. To reproduce, I run TightVNC (viewer) from a variety of clients (Win & OpenSUSE) to a number of OpenSUSE servers with xinetd managed VNC services enabled. The Xvnc sessions start and the clients display the KDE log-on screen. You will notice that in the username field that the sign is not displayed.

I have run a parallel VNC service (is it Xvnc or vncserver?) which gave me a twm session. It also is missing thesign, so I conclude that it is not KDE that is causing the problem?Secondly, a scan throughog file produced by the parallel VNC service shows:Code:KbdAddEvent: unknown KeySym 0x3a - allocating KeyCode 92 Has anyone any suggestions on how I can get my pound sign?
