I downloaded and extracted tightvnc-1.3-.10_unixsrc.tar.bz2. I have directory called vnc_unixsrc. I went into this directory and tried running xmkmf but got the kick back saying command not found. After doing some searching around looks like i need imake. So I ran yum install imake, installed imake. went back to my vnc_unixsrc directory and tried runnign xmkmf again (failed) did some more searching and looks like people recommended I reference the path to xmkmf. So, while I was in vnc_unixsrc I tried /usr/bin/xmkmf and I get:
This doesn't look right.... Lost here... should I try to execute make World next? or I do still need to figure out xmkmf first...
i have read the readme and documentation pages on the website numerious times and i still don't understand. how do i connect to a server to view it and how do i set up the linux computer as a server to connect to it and control it (from a windows computer if possible) and how do i install this software from the tarballs that can be downloaded from the tightvnc website
I'm accustomed to using the tightvnc client to view servers running vnc. Since installing Fedora, I see that it uses Tigervnc for everything, and there is no tightvnc client available. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, especially since Tigervnc seems more functional. The problem I'm having is that there are "artifacts" when using tigervnc to connect to one of my servers. It's so bad, that I can hardly use it to view that server. I've tried to change some of the options in tigervnc, but the app just crashes when I try to save the changes.
Anyone else experience this problem with tightvnc? Anyone tried installing one of the old tightvnc packages from rpmfind.net or rpm.pbone.net?
I am new to linux and I purchased a Linux Dedicated server, however my experience for Linux is 0 and my pc's at home are Windows 7. I am trying to install TightVNC server on my linux dedicated server but I can currently only access it through Putty as far as I know.
Is there a way to install TightVNC through Putty from my Windows 7 computer? Because I have no clue how else to put TightVNC on my dedicated server.

I am trying to install gnome-libs package as prereq to install Oracle 10.2 on Red Hat 5. It requires libpng.so.2 while I have libpng.so.3 installed on my system. I tried to do a link: ln -s /usr/lib/libpng.so.3 /usr/lib/libpng.so.2, then run /sbin/ldconfig and rebbot as well but it continues to ask for this library.
I'm attempting to setup a VNC server. Both machines are behind the same router however when I run tightVNC (through Wine) it configures the server to my external IP. I don't want this, because I have no need to access this machine outside of my network (can ssh for anything while I'm away). Btw both machines are running Fedora (11 and 12)
I am trying to run VNC server on a standard OpenSUSE 11.2 Gnome Desktop installation.I have done this succesfully with SLES for sometime, however, my experience with OpenSUSE 11.2 is that it doesn't work out of the box!!
I am using XP Pro VNC viewer Free Edition 4.1.2 to connect.
I have removed "localhost" from the # special IPv6 addresses in hosts. This fixes the black screen issue for me. All appears well until I disconnect and retry the connection after 5 minutes or so. Then VNC client makes the connection and then immediately disconnects. It's a no go from then on. If I reboot OpenSUSE 11.2 it works again but then reconnect fails again after the same period of time.
I am trying NX now as an alternative. However, I would much prefer to use VNC.
I connect from computer A (OSS11.4) to computer B (OSS11.3) via tightvncviewer. Install google talk plugin using user X account on computer B. Test video call using tightvnc and another laptop C (winXP) - seems to work (see video on both C and B (via A tightvnc)). User X tries to use google talk on Computer B with no success, no video, no audio (could be config problem). Then I ask myself and others, how is this possible, or actually how to fix it.
The goal was to remote desktop to my linux box from my windows machine, I went down the path of TightVNC. Installed and ran it.. thought I was all clear.. however the keyboard keystrokes are all jumbled, and seem to be all over the shop. (i.e.: when I press 'p' it actually comes out as 'X' etc. Happens for all keystrokes. Had a quick look around but haven't found any information on it. Uninstalled tightvnc server and installed vnc4server and it resolved the issue, shrug.
I'm having an issue connecting to my media PC running windows 7 x64 using the remote desktop viewer built into my ubuntu 10.04 x64 install. I can connect to the windows machine using chicken of the VNC on my mac with zero hassle. Unfortunately when I try and use remote desktop viewer on my ubuntu destkop I get an immediate:Code:Connection to host 192.168.1.103 was closed.I've tried connecting to 192.168.1.103::5900 as well, with the same result. Again I can connect using my mac (using chicken of the vnc), just not remote desktop viewer =( Any thoughts on why this might be?Remote desktop viewer on my desktop has successfully connected to other Ubuntu & OSx machines..
