Ubuntu :: TightVNC Error:server Did Not Offer Supported Security Type
May 10, 2011
I will try to keep this straight-forward. Yesterday I was able to access an ubuntu 10.10 (edubuntu) desktop using the tightVNC viewer that I installed on my Vista laptop. I never set anything up on the desktop it just worked and I didn't question it.
Today I get the following error on the viewer software: "Server did not offer supported security type" The only thing that has changed was that I installed a bunch of updates yesterday afternoon, but I am not sure what changed.
I intend to set up a web site on a dedicated web server in colocation (containing nothing else except the server OS).Is it sufficient to make all files read only and use Apache mod_security or can a firewall offer extra necessary protection?
I am building an active directory and using BIND9 as my DNS. To allow for secure dynamic updates from the domain, I am enabling GSS-TSIG as detailed here and here. Unfortunately, some of the commands and configurations used here seem to be depreciated, at least in the newer versions that I'm using. My issue is one of keytab encryption. I generated a keytab using ktpass.exe on the Windows Server 2008 domain controller. I have tried DES/MD5, AES128/SHA1 and AES256/SHA1, each have been turned down by ktutil on the kerberos server (FreeBSD). Each time, it outputs the following error: ktutil: AES256/SHA1*: encryption type AES256/SHA1* not supported *Respective to encryption used.
I cannot find a list of suitable encryption schemes that ktutil will accept. The FreeBSD handbook details a means of producing a keytab file, but I'm not sure how to configure the Domain Controller to use the keytab.
I'm running debian 5.3(i think) I've tried installing skype, google chrome and flash player. All of them are .deb files and on everyone it says "archive type not supported", what should I do to install them?
I'm using Debian 503 Lenny, Gnome. My machine, She-Beast, is a 2001 Compaq Presorry-o, 1100GHz Celery. With every, that is, E V E R Y, attempt to install any .deb, it fails. When I 2x click on the .deb icon, or when I r-click -->Open with archive manager, I get a dialog window: "Could not open "(filename).deb". Archive type not supported." If I use root terminal, dpkg -i, similar responses come up.
There is a centralized FTP server which are accessed by clients to develop some web development project and to achieve this the clients are using ftp service. The problem is when they are trying to copy any files and directories they are getting the following error: "Message reported from the file system: FTP copy not supported, use move instead" I've checked all the permissions and they are all OK. I don't know why this is happening. they can create and move files and folders but can't copy files and folders.
I just loaded octave. I ran through a few examples of how to implement a script file. Everything works until I get to "plot". When I run the "plot" command I get the following.
octave:2> test1.m error: can't perform indexing operations for <unknown type> type sh: gnuplot: not found Just to double check my work, I ran the following code: y=[1 2 3]; plot(y);
I'm having an issue connecting to my media PC running windows 7 x64 using the remote desktop viewer built into my ubuntu 10.04 x64 install. I can connect to the windows machine using chicken of the VNC on my mac with zero hassle. Unfortunately when I try and use remote desktop viewer on my ubuntu destkop I get an immediate:Code:Connection to host 192.168.1.103 was closed.I've tried connecting to 192.168.1.103::5900 as well, with the same result. Again I can connect using my mac (using chicken of the vnc), just not remote desktop viewer =( Any thoughts on why this might be?Remote desktop viewer on my desktop has successfully connected to other Ubuntu & OSx machines..
When accessing the server from any client, the 'd' key minimizes the current window on the server (not the VNC client itself). Every other key seems to work fine and I can use the key combo <ALT>-d to issue a 'd', but that is less than convenient. I saw this post [URL] which said to use gconf-editor to set a keyboard layout, but that didn't fix the problem.
Server Environment Ubuntu 10.10 (upgraded from 10.04) 32-bit tightvnc server
I'm attempting to setup a VNC server. Both machines are behind the same router however when I run tightVNC (through Wine) it configures the server to my external IP. I don't want this, because I have no need to access this machine outside of my network (can ssh for anything while I'm away). Btw both machines are running Fedora (11 and 12)
I am trying to run VNC server on a standard OpenSUSE 11.2 Gnome Desktop installation.I have done this succesfully with SLES for sometime, however, my experience with OpenSUSE 11.2 is that it doesn't work out of the box!!
I am using XP Pro VNC viewer Free Edition 4.1.2 to connect.
I have removed "localhost" from the # special IPv6 addresses in hosts. This fixes the black screen issue for me. All appears well until I disconnect and retry the connection after 5 minutes or so. Then VNC client makes the connection and then immediately disconnects. It's a no go from then on. If I reboot OpenSUSE 11.2 it works again but then reconnect fails again after the same period of time.
I am trying NX now as an alternative. However, I would much prefer to use VNC.
I installed fedora lastnight, but any addresses I type in the field is returning server error, but if I type the IP address it will work, I reinstalled Fedora 11 about 3 times, samething.
I use opensuse 11.4 with TightVNC Server version 1.3.9. I use french keyboard mapping (yast configuration). When I connect with putty via ssh all is ok (keyboard mapping). But when I use tightvnc viewer on windows the mapping is not correct.I've verified many time the configuration of the keyboard in yast (graphical) and desktop options (french mapping). I can't map correctly. It seem there is no issue with direct attached keyboard.Another strange behavior is the shift key. I want to use . (need to press shift + and this put a >. But sometime if I press "shift + ," before then "shift + ;" it works.
I've passed long time on google and find no answer yet.Is there a issue with tightvnc server ?A bug with tightvnc viewer ? (I've tried with realvnc and same results).
I just installed Red Hat Linux Professional 8.0 in my VMWare, but I do not know how to start X Windows. I have tried to type "startx" on "RUN", but I get error message: Fatal Server error Server already active for display 0. If this server is no longer running, remove tmp/.X0-lock and start again.
I have headless debian as a server which i use over tightvnc server running on it. Vnc works fine but I can't for example run sudo mousepad or any other gui app from terminal, it says something about not having the rights to open it as root. I understand this has something to do with security, but my computers are behind nat so the vnc server can only be connected inside my lan so i don't mind.
I want to configure my tightvnc server installation to use my already running X session (on current :0 screen), but as i understand its not really and its working only at another screen. How can I configure to use it on my current screen?
I am trying to ssh a remote box from putty but I am getting following error. "No supported authentication methods available" I don't have access to the server so I must have make my ssh client compatible to ssh server. This is the trace from another client
[SSH] Protocol Version 2 (OpenSSH_5.3p1 Debian-3ubuntu6) [SSH] Cipher: aes128-ctr [SSH] FAIL: Unable to authenticate [SSH] INFO: DISCONNECT
I make all as mentioned in this guide [URL] and the MediaTomb working with the script but when I try to open .mkv file PS3 says that "The data type is not supported" in same time it shows the files in the menu normally and marked it unsupported thumbnail after I try to play it.
I'm using Postgresql 8.4.2-2. I'm trying to remote into my server securely. I figure I could do so with ssh. Apparently I figured correctly, as per, [URL] and [URL] I setup the ssh tunnel. ssh -L 5432:serverip:5432 Then I setup pgadmin3 to connect as follows:
An error has occurred: Quote: An error has occurred: Error connecting to the server: server closed the connection unexpectedly This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request.
I'm not sure what the problem is. I can connect with Code: psql from the cli after connecting to the terminal via ssh. So I know that I'm using the correct password.
I have a x64 OpenSUSE server with two hard drivers installed. The first one is used for the / and /home partitions and the other is for backups. Ironically enough it is the backup hard drive I am having trouble with. I was having trouble writting to the drive and unmounted it to preform a fchsk, however now when ever I try to mount it I get the following error:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so
Does anyone know who I can repair the drive and retrive data?
I'm new in UNIX & trying to access the server using SSH but I encounter this error PAM Authentication Error. I use edit /etc/ssh/sshd_login & set the PermitRootLogin to yes. But didn't work. I used this command ps -ef | grep sshd & saying Process environment requires procfs(5). I don't know what to do now. What I want is access it by SSH but I got Access Denied. This was my problem for installing: [URL]. Now I downloaded ubuntu server edition, and typed sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop, so it did. Now I am starting my PC up, and I can't get past "waiting mouse" image and the background of the splash screen. I am on this error for a week or so already!
i am trying to setup a very basic samba share on RHEL.after editing smb.conf ,testparm output is ok,(though it shows STANDALONE SERVER.)the directive i have used are
