My wifi card disassociates from the AP and there's no way to re-associate.I had to manually disable the card and re-enable again via the eeepc tray.This happens many times in a day , it's totally casual, and started to happen about 4 days ago. Before that, I always had a rock-solid connection!I don't understand why this bug appeared to me only 4 days ago.
View 3 RepliesMy laptop has an internal wireless device and a button to turn it on/off, but since it has bad reception I use an external USB wireless adapter.The problem is that if I turn the internal wireless device off using the button, it also turns the USB wireless adapter off.Is there anyway to use the killswitch (the button) only for the internal wireless device?This only started to happen in Ubuntu 10.04.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have installed the wifidrivers needed to use the wifi on the 1018 in Ubuntu Netbook Edition. It works until I get asked to install 5 (Sorry, don't remember their name) more updates, now I can not see Wireless networks under the networkmanager, It does not help installing the driver again, and I can not remove it either. It says the driver is activated but not in use. Also note that in desktop mode I lost my other workspaces, I can not change what window is on top and the quit, minimize and full window on windows is not there anymore.

Frequently, sometimes several times an hour, my machine will spontaneously switch to a much weaker hotspot than the one I normally use. This causes an enormous amount of disruption, with today's disruption really taking the biscuit: I was in the middle of an international VOIP conversation with a potential employer.
I can't remember whether things were better when I was using wicd instead of network manager, but wicd had a huge hit on my system resources (2% or more of CPU), so it's not a great solution. In the KDE interface to Network Manager you can specify which ESSID to connect to, but these settings are ignored.
I'm using the linksys wmp300n with ndiswrapper to connect to a belkin wireless router with a static ip (192.168.2.3). The rest of the PCs in the house have .2, .4, and .5 only running windows XP and 7. This one won't stay connected during large file transfers within the network or over the internet in Ubuntu. I made a script to restart ndiswrapper but I have to do it every 2 or 3 min during a file transfer. I can't play online games at all. No ssh sessions for more than a few min... so on and so forth. None of these issues happen in Windows 7 but when it was first installed it had to do something with dhcp before it would stay connected. Windows wouldn't tell me what was going on though. code...

Ubuntu 9.10. Everything works fine until yesterday when I cannot connect to network. My lan card is Realtek PCI and is present on system (i can read mac address and all settings). In connection manager I was try to set everything manually (IP, netmask, gateway and DNS) or leave automatic - without success. I am connected to router. I don't want to feed "log-hungry" people because how to resolve ubuntu lan problem can help me (not someone who will want to try). I cannot connect manually because there is no option when I click on network icon (I can just uncheck connection, but that's all). I can't even access to my router (from computer with Ubuntu, because I can access from another computer). All logs shows lan card proper. Windows XP on the same computer booted from another HDD works fine.
View 2 Replies View Relatedyesterday I let the update manager install a whole bunch of updates for my 10.04 install on my MSI Notebook ER710. My wireless was just working peachy until then (with the madwifi drivers), but after the update, no more... I checked the madwifi, tried a new make, but nothing worked.
So, after reading somewhere that 10.10 had less issues with wireless I decided to upgrade to 10.10 in the hope that that would solve my problem.
Well, partly it did, as in, according to my system I've got a wireless again and this morning even, it was able to see wireless networks! Unfortunately I couldn't connect to mine, although the key was correct. At some point I lost the ability to see wireless networks again. I tried wicd too, but no luck their either. It recognizes my card but can't see any networks.

My network interaces stop working after 5-10 minutes of operation. I have 2 network cards, one static IP and the other dhcp. Sometimes I can ping my router, other times I can't.
View 9 Replies View RelatedUseing gnome network manger. I thught that is DNS resolve problem, and wrote in linksys router the same DNS as 3g huaweii modem use. Steel the some result. NO INTERNET. Change for static ip in router and try use the same gatway , but steell can't use connected at the same time to internet with 3g and local router.
Only one devace at the same time, Router have no any acces to internat. SO why 3g internet stoping working after connecting router to LAN ports? Has it some thing to do with subnet or ip range and routing table?
I have 2 network adapter, 1 wireless and 1 wired. Both are connected to different network. Whenever I plugin the cable, wireless stop working. I need to get both working simultaneously. Do I need to do any settings to make both work?

For the past almost year, once in a while my wifi won't work.At home,I use an ethernet cable. When I go out, or am out of town, about 1/3 times the wifi won't connect, and won't even find access points. Once this happens, no matter how many times I restart, the wifi won't work. The ONLY way I can get it to work again is if I reboot with the ethernet cord plugged into the laptop and into a router/switch/hub. My neighbor (the one who got me into Ubuntu) is a pretty experienced linux network admin who looked a my laptop and has no idea what is causing this. I've attached my syslog log entry for the last time this happened. Does anyone know why this is? I LOVE ubuntu but I may need to switch back to Windows because I NEED wifi to work.You will see in the logfile I tried connecting to two different APs. The one that always works is the second one, called linksys.

I buy a new usb network adapter (Through DX), when I try to use it in ubuntu or BackTrack4 Final it is working, and connecting networks even with WPA encryption. But after few minuts it stops working totally. It is showing that I'm connected to the AP but web sites do not respond.
Notes:
- I have another PCI Wireless adapter which works fine.
- The problematic adapter works great on windows.
- A driver CD came with it, including a linux driver which I wasn't succesfully installed.
- A BackTrack3 Disc came with it, claming by the instructions that the adapter will work with it. I didn't try it because i have backtrack 4 final.

I just recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a dell laptop. My WiFi connection that I've been using on the same computer for years is not working when I log on. However if I run the burnt image cd and choose the option "Use Ubuntu without making any changes to your computer" I am asked if I want install proprietary drivers. If I activate one "Broadcom STA" I can connect to the wireless connection in my house. When I am using the version installed on my laptop it doesn't ask me if I want to install the drivers and it doesn't even find them when I go to hardware drivers under system. So to sum it up I can get connection when I run Ubuntu from the cd but not when I run the Ubuntu on my laptop.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought my wife a Compaq Presario CQ56 for Mother's Day, took it home and put Ubuntu 11.04 on it because she didn't like Windows 7 which was on it and love Ubuntu on the other computers in the house. Anyway, the wireless adapter, an rt5390sta isn't working and have tried downloading the adapter from the ratech web site and it will not compile. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this working. I tried another solution which was mentioned on the forums here of removing the options from the network manager in preferred applications and that didn't work either.

Yesterday while me and my friend were in the train, we tried to set up a wireless network and play frozen bubble. So one of us makes a new wireless connection, the other connects to it, but we observed this: When the creator of the wifi network opens the game and tries to start the multiplayer, it says that it cannot connect to the server. View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently invested in a new netbook, a Zoostorm Freedom XL and decided to install the Ubunto Netbook Remix alongside the Windows 7 starter edition which comes preinstalled.Everything went amazingly smoothly, and I now have a 99% working system - the only issue is the wireless networking.The wifi adapter doesn't seem to be being recognised by the Ubuntu install at all, to the extent that even using the wifi hotkey the wifi indicator does not come on and I cannot access wireless networks.
I've done a bit of reading, and it seems that ndiswrapper may be the solution I'm looking for, however I'm not entirely sure how to go about implementing this.The network card, in Windows, is simply recognised as "802.11n Wireless Lan Card" and the device manager properties suggest it's manufactured by Ralink and using driver version 3.0.8.0.
Installation was flawless. My WiFi router is up and I'm able to connect my Windows laptop. Once I login to Ubuntu, WiFi doesn't even start to scan and even if I go into 'network connections' to add the SSID manually, no luck. I just get the notification that I'm not connected, no other errors.

I've been running ubuntu on my Asus 1001ha netbook for half a year or so. I ran Karmic for at while, wifi working and all, accepted the recommended updates when Update Manager popped up and everything was fine until one day I let Update Manager do it's thing and my wifi stopped working.. Lycid had just come out that same week, so I thought "screw it" and installed 10.04 instead..
So I've been running 10.04 for a couple of months now, everything working fine, including the wifi - until today.. Update Manager suggested some upgrades, I accepted and *pouf* my wifi is gone again..
That's the second time Update Manager knocks out my wifi, any way to roll back todays update or how to the the wifi working again?

I have a laptop that was working fine with 10.04 LTS. Today, I did a full 10.10 install and now my wireless is not working. Thinking it had to do with 10.10, I did a full install back to 10.04 LTs. Wireless is still not working. I tried installing the driver for my laptop's internal wifi using ndiswrapper, but that didn't work either. I have another laptop that is identical to the non-working one, with the exception that it is running a Celeron processor and non-Nvidia graphics. Otherwise, they are identical with respect to the wifi adapter. The Celeron machine is giving me absolutely no problems.
