I just installed Ubuntu 10.10. Everything works fine, except wireless. Wireless works fine for a while (I am right now using it) but then it loses all networks and I have to shutdown and then start Ubuntu again to get wireless network again.
I have MSI laptop with Atheros Communications Inc. AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)
yesterday I let the update manager install a whole bunch of updates for my 10.04 install on my MSI Notebook ER710. My wireless was just working peachy until then (with the madwifi drivers), but after the update, no more... I checked the madwifi, tried a new make, but nothing worked.
So, after reading somewhere that 10.10 had less issues with wireless I decided to upgrade to 10.10 in the hope that that would solve my problem.
Well, partly it did, as in, according to my system I've got a wireless again and this morning even, it was able to see wireless networks! Unfortunately I couldn't connect to mine, although the key was correct. At some point I lost the ability to see wireless networks again. I tried wicd too, but no luck their either. It recognizes my card but can't see any networks.

I have 2 network adapter, 1 wireless and 1 wired. Both are connected to different network. Whenever I plugin the cable, wireless stop working. I need to get both working simultaneously. Do I need to do any settings to make both work?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI buy a new usb network adapter (Through DX), when I try to use it in ubuntu or BackTrack4 Final it is working, and connecting networks even with WPA encryption. But after few minuts it stops working totally. It is showing that I'm connected to the AP but web sites do not respond.
Notes:
- I have another PCI Wireless adapter which works fine.
- The problematic adapter works great on windows.
- A driver CD came with it, including a linux driver which I wasn't succesfully installed.
- A BackTrack3 Disc came with it, claming by the instructions that the adapter will work with it. I didn't try it because i have backtrack 4 final.
It took me dozens of surfing the web hours, and too many restarts,
I am trying to connect my desktop to my laptop over a non-internet connected LAN, but when i enable the LAN connection on my desktop (the one with the wireless) its internet stops working.
it is a very similar problem to this except that i am using ubuntu for the machine with the two connections.
right now i have my wireless on the 192.168.1.* address space, while the LAN is to be on 192.168.5.*
note: my goal is not to share internet with my laptop, just be able to connect to it and the internet at the same time.

my wireless will simply stop working after each new webpage loads. Whats strange is that it will not disconnect me, and the wireless icon in the top right will continue to show that I am connected to the internet. I am currently tethered to my phone and the internet is working fine. Once If I switch to my regular wireless internet and disonnect and reconnect to my home router then the webpage will load fine only once then after that it will not work again until I disconncet and reconnect again.
This is not a problem for anyone else in my house who all use macs (needless to say they are all very smug about this). Also when I connect to my schools wireless internet there is not a problem. Also restarting my modem and router at home does nothing to solve the problem. Like I said before this just started up about 3 days ago and has baffled me since.

Xubuntu 9.10 on a DELL Inspiron 1150.I have a problem with intermittent dropping of my wireless connection ( see Belkin 7010 thread).Once dropped, the wireless will NOT reconnect (It just sits there saying "connecting" but never does) Same happens if I manually disconnect - I can never re-connect. On rebooting it will reconnect fine & all is well for sometimes 4 hrs.How can I kill all wireless services & restart them without having to reboot the laptop?

My lan card is Realtek PCI and is present on system (i can read mac address and all settings). In connection manager I was try to set everything manually (IP, netmask, gateway and DNS) or leave automatic - without success. I am connected to router. I don't want to feed "log-hungry" people because how to resolve ubuntu lan problem can help me (not someone who will want to try). I cannot connect manually because there is no option when I click on network icon (I can just uncheck connection, but that's all). I can't even access to my router (from computer with Ubuntu, because I can access from another computer). All logs shows lan card proper. Windows XP on the same computer booted from another HDD works fine.

Change for static ip in router and try use the same gatway , but steell can't use connected at the same time to internet with 3g and local router.

Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.
I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.
For some reason, i just cannot get my wireless to work in xubuntu. When i click on the network-manager applet, it only has the wired network tab and VPN connections, there are NO wireless networks displayed. I have also tried iwconfig, which returned

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5721 network card on my server at work.Everything works fine for a few weeks, then randomly the network connection on the server will stop working. After it stops working, I will try to reconnect with the network manager, it shows a wired connection available, it shows the "connection in progress"animation, then the "connection disabled" icon.
I uninstalled the network manager and used manual configuration, but do you think the network manager was the issue? I can't have the server disconnecting randomly every few weeks with no way to know what the real problem is. Was there an issue with the network manager with 10.04?
Just upgraded to the newest version of Ubuntu(unity), and my wireless isn't working. I have the 14e4:4315 Wireless Card so I followed this posts [URL].... And still have no wifi, when I click the icon in the menu bar it says under "Wireless Networks": "wireless is disabled by hardware switch", which ins't true because on my Vostro 1520, there is only one switch and it is in the on position. I've tried 3 versions of ubuntu and none of them work with wifi getting tired of it.

I'm on a (relatively old) AMD Duron 1.5Ghz, 1.5G memory with a VIA KM-266 motherboard. Wireless worked fine in 9.10. With a fresh install of the new 10.04, the usb wireless adapter is not detected, the tab to add a new wireless connection is grayed out, starting the KNetworkManager (did I got the name right?) does nothing (that is, no application starts), etc.note: if you are wondering how I am accessing the internet, I just fired up the 9.10 live CD, which as you can imagine is not the most practical thing in the world.Here is the info.
