Debian :: Unable To Restart Network Services Using The 'init.d' Scripts

Mar 17, 2010

I haven't been active in Debian for two years back when Lenny was still in 'testing' and noticed that for some reason it is no longer protocol to restart network services using the 'init.d' scripts. I also noticed the same for Ubuntu (which I don't use or could care about) and am trying to understand what is the correct way now for Debian and what changed? I did a search on Google but didn't turn up any results. Is it no longer correct to run:

Code:

/etc/init.d/network restart

The DHCP client is running, the network interface have an address, fine.If I do a /etc/init.d/network restart (or stop + start), no more DHCP client. t is stopped when the interface is down. When the interface is up, I have to start it manually.1 - is it normal ?2 - isn't ifup's job to launch the dhcp client ?3 - can /etc/network/if-up.d be the right place to resolve this ?

Fedora Networking :: 9 - Not Connect On Restart?

Apr 18, 2009

i'm new on board and new for linux.i installed fc 9, and it's look ok. i want to use stutic ip,so i did what i find here:uote:First, NetworkManager and static ip addresses do not get along. If you want to use static ip addresses, turn off the NM services by going to "system->administration->services" and disable the NM services and reboot.Next, goto "system->admin->network", highlight your device and click the "edit" tab and configure the device. Uncheck the "controlled by NM option" and "automatically obtain ip address" BUT then place a check in the "allow users to control" and "activate on boot"Then click the "dns" tab and fill in your dns servers ip addresses.the problem is that is no internet connection after reboot. than i go to system->admin->network,and activate the device and all ok.

Instead I have to manually go to my office (grrrr), and simply click on the networking icon, click on the unselected radio button next to eth0 (its the only network interface), and I'm good again. To save me future weekend trips to the office.... How can I make sure this happens automatically

1) i can't start CUPS server with /etc/init.d/cups restart "file not found", there is a cups@ link in /etc/init.d.

2) when i install dcp7010 cupswrapper

dpkg -i cupswrapperDCP7010-2.0.1-2.i386.de
it ends with
" lpinfo: Verbindung zum Server nicht mglich: Verbindungsaufbau abgelehnt
lpadmin: Verbindung zum Server nicht mglich: Verbindungsaufbau abgelehnt"
(connection to server not possible, refused)

3)[URL] doesn't work.

4)foomatic-gui can't find the installed dcp7010 lpr-driver

brdcp7010lpr-2.0.1-1.i386.deb, (a couple of days ago it did)

This is frustrating because it worked in etch and worked for awhile in lenny. The dcp7010-scanner does work.

Fedora Networking :: Restart From Hibernate - Missing Eth0?

Apr 17, 2009

I'm running fc10 x64 - latest updates. First I could never get wake on lan to work - spent days working on that one. Now, when I restart after a hibernate my eth0 is not re-enabled or recognized anymore. About to give up on Fedora.

I've tried service network restart.
I've tried unplugging cable and plugging back in.
I've tried init.d/networkmanager restart.
Only reboot works.

I've spent so much time trying to configure Fedore Core 10 for a Dynamips server and it's just not ready on some of the essential things like this hibernate problem and also wake on lan.

I follow basic steps and fill out everything according to most guides that are available for fedora. After that everything works great, I can connect to samba server ABC form any machine through smb://ABC (mac) or \ABC (win), however as soon as I restart smb services or my server (subsequently restarting the smb service ...) I no longer can connect to it via samba server name ABC, I can only do smb://SambaServerIP or \SambaServerIP (have to put numerical internal ip to connect)

Ubuntu :: Computer Seemed To Be Frozen - Reboot - No Init Found. Try Passing Init - Bootarg"

Jan 1, 2011

I've been dual booting 10.10 with Windows7 for about a month. Today is the first time I've encountered a serious problem.

This morning, nothing functioned properly after trying to open several programs. The computer seemed to be "frozen", although the mouse was working fine.

I decided to reboot, but then encountered an even bigger problem.

It failed to boot and got this message: no init found. try passing init= bootarg

The problem now is that it requires a Live CD session and I keep getting this: GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)

In case it matters, I didn't install 10.10 from an ISO, I just upgraded from 10.04.

Ubuntu :: Error - No Init Found - Try Passing Init=bootarg

Jan 20, 2010

Ubuntu 9.10 will not boot! System froze this morning, I restarted and it is now failing to boot. Starts loading grub and I get this message:

mount: mounting /dev/disk/by-uuid/04aa3697-7bc0-45b5-b86a-77a1e6534bd5 on /root failed: invalid argument
mount: mounting /sys on /root/sys failed: no such file or directory
mount: mounting /dev on /root/sys failed: no such file or directory

[code]....

I booted with 9.04 LiveCD discovered the drive could not be mounted-ran fsck -ln and it told me the drive has no valid partition table. I have had intermittent problems mounting flash drives before this, so I'm kind of worried it might be a hardware issue. Also have files on that drive I would rather not lose, so reinstalling is hopefully a last resort.

Fedora Networking :: Network Restart Errors - Bcm4311 On Dell Inspiron 1501

Jun 19, 2009

I have installed F11 on my Dell Inspiron 1501. I tried to get the Broadcom 4311 wireless card to work by following the instructions for installing the Broadcom driver from this link: [url].

That resulted in the following errors when I gave the command:

Code:

I removed the broadcom-wl package and installed the autoen package from DangerMouse. After rebooting wireless works but I still get the same errors when I give the command:

Code:

I had to disable encryption on the router to connect, but I guess that's a compromise I'll have to make right now. I will work on that some more after I get these error messages straightened out:

Code:

Note that wireless does seem to be working (though without encryption) despite the error messages. And I got these same error messages with the Broadcom driver but I could not get wireless working.

Ubuntu :: Wont Boot - "no Init Found. Try Passing Init=bootarg"

Jan 31, 2011

While I was using my computer a few days ago, the terminal stopped working properly, so I tried to reboot, and when it started up again it wouldn't boot and said "no init found. try passing init=bootarg"

This has happened twice before, so I really need to figure out what keeps happening, otherwise I can't continue to use linux. i reinstalled both times before. i think that this is caused by a process that prevents me from using the hard drive, because when I try to check the disk in the terminal or in gparted, it says Device or resource busy while trying to open /dev/sda1. Filesystem mounted or opened exclusively by another program?

Also, in the disk utility, in the lower right corner of the filesystem it has a spinning "loading wheel".(i'm not sure if that means anything)

I am using ubuntu 10.10, but am not sure what kernel I am using, but i tried a few different kernel options(there's three of them at start up). safe mode does not work either.

General :: Kernel Panic - Not Syncing - No Init Found - Try Passing Init - Option To Kernel

Apr 19, 2011

Im am building a Linux distro. It will be very tiny and fast.

I only have a minimal linuxkernel (bzImage) who is 1,2 mb big. And then I have Busybox who is 174,6 kb big.

The commands in busybox is: cd, ls, mkdir, rmdir, wget, httpd, clear, rm, poweroff, halt, reboot, fdisk, mount, umount, free, and cp.

When I compiled the kernel i use initramfs/initrd function and point it to a folder where initrd/initramfs source is.

The kernel works OK with others initramfs/initrd files. But not with my own.

Quote:

Here is how the end of the kernelcomplie look like.

Quote:

Here is my init file who is the initrd/initramfs source.

Quote:

The initramfs folder contains "bin" (folder) and "init" a file. No more.

The problem is that the kernel cannot find/read init file.

I have a problem with ssh, in that it's extremely slow when using putty to connect from Windows. A bit of googling suggested that I should use -u0 as a startup option since there's no DNS entry for this machine.

So, at the risk of sounding stupid, how do I put this options in to the /etc/init.d/ssh file? I tried adding it in the the "set" part but got an error, tried adding another "set" line and got an error and tried adding it to the first command there, but also got an error! Where does it go?

Fedora :: Can't Use The Init 3

Jun 19, 2009

Lately I've been trying to install the Nvidia Cuda driver for Linux. In order to do this, I have to tun a .run file. When I run it in the console, It says that I can't install when running the X server. So I try to use "init 3".When I type it, and hit enter, the screen goes black, no blinky cursor thing, just a frozen black screen. I followed one of the nvidia tutorials on here to get the normal nvidia driver, and it worked successfully. Before I installed the nvidia driver, when I would use "init 3" I would get a colourful console window with random coloured blocks of random lettering. It seems that installing the nvidia form the tutorial turned this into a black screen.
