I'm runnig f 13 on my laptop, and it runs like a charm. But once in a while, the internet doesn't seem to work properly. It mostly works, but right now i am unable to reach certain pages such at google (which is annoying), whereas other pages like yahoo and this one works perfectly well.

I have this annoying problem since day one.I am testing out Red Hat RHEL5, everything is fine except DNS look up.If I ping www.google.com, it doesn't work, ping ip address it all works;if I bring up browser, put www.google.com it doesn't work, can't find the name, however, simply put ip address there it works.My DNS seeting seems ok, and the DNS works from Windows box.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Fedora 15 x86_64 on my new AMD Machine and I'm quite pleased with things thus far.Here's where my problem comes. I mainly bought that machine to help me with Development. More specifically, Virtual Machines for testing purposes. I have installed Fedora 15 x86_64 as a qemu-kvm Virtual Machine and it's working.. for the most part. I am having a whole lot of trouble getting it to connect to the Internet.
My guess is the only way I'm going to reliably do that is to setup a Bridge. Yes/no? However, in order to setup a Bridge I need to disable NetworkManager and that where the fun happens. It completely disables my network connection. I'm probably missing something small, but I can't figure out what I'm missing. I've double checked my ifcfg-em1 multiple times(I've been trying for ~24 hours so far) and all the settings are as they should be.
I've turned NetworkManager off and stopped it(chkconfig and service) and turned network on(chkconfig and service). Theoretically I should simply need to turn off NM and turn on network and things should be fine. no?
Well, aside from adding:
ONBOOT=yes
NM_CONTROLED=no
to ifcfg-em1.
I am a convert from Ubuntu (9.04 kept freezing on my laptop; when it did work, many packages it seemed were outdated--ie only Eclipse 3.2, rdesktop was messed up [and apparently is also in Fedora]), and I am having some trouble with getting my wireless working.I am running Fedora 11.First off, there is a problem when trying to connect when using DHCP. NetworkManager gets to the second green dot, and then after a short while I am given a message that the connection was disconnected.
Configuring the interface manually, not using DHCP, allows the connection to complete. However, the internet is very slow. There is a 15-30 sec delay before website loading actually commences, and then another delay each time an ad must be fetched from another server.How can I fix this delay? I know I have encountered it in earlier versions of Ubuntu, but I can't remember how I fixed it.About the rdesktop problem, if anyone is able to help [maybe I should post another thread?], the cursor color (the color of the pointer) is inverted---where it should be white it is black, and where it should be black it is white. I use rdesktop a lot to connect to my terminal server in my basement. Any idea how to fix it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI had originally followed the advice at Mauriat Miranda's Fedora Nvidia Driver Install Guide [URL] for installing nvidia's display driver on my HP Pavilion system 64 bit running Fedora 11. I had used his first method which just installs the relevant kernel module kmod-nvidia from RPMFusion. He also suggested an alternate method: obtaining Nvidia's installer NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-185.18.36-pkg2.run and using that. I downloaded it from Nvidia, but I didn't run it.
I recently lost X. This had happened previously after a kernel upgrade, and I just used grub to boot an earlier kernel to recover X, and then installed the upgraded kernel module to fix the problem. But this time, being deeply involved in something else, I panicked slightly, and, using dumb terminal mode I ran the Nvidia installer. It asked me to make various choices and in response to my answers, it decided to compile a new kernel module. This recovered X, but I then compounded things by installing the updated kmod-nvidia.
I realized afterwards that using both methods might create some conflicts, but X seemed to run properly. (I can tell because graphics in the program Maple doesn't work properly with the default drivers provided by Fedora 11.) Since then, when I restart nvidia, I get.

I've openSUSE 11.2, 64-bit version, with GNOME desktop.
My hardware is a Conceptronic c150ru.
Well, I configured it with Ndiswrapper (http://en.opensuse.org/Ndiswrapper_howto), and I hadn't problems.
Then, I tried to enable Internet with the terminal. Firstly, I wrote iwconfig wlan0 mode managed. Well.
Secondly, I wrote iwconfig wlan0 essid (my essid). Well.
Then, I wrote iwconfig wlan0 key (my key wep). An error message appears. How can I write my key wep?
I just upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10. When I restarted, I admired the new login menu, then went to Firefox. I noticed that my wireless didn't work (it did in 9.04) Thinking I'd just need to reinstall the drivers, I plugged in the computer to a working Ethernet outlet with a working cord. I noticed that Ubuntu didn't tell me that Auto eth0 was connected. It didn't tell me anything. And then I went to Google and realized that the wired connection didn't work either. Then I came here on an iPod Touch and you know the rest.
Edit: And other devices work too on the network.
I really want to convert over to ubuntu and use ubuntu netbook remix on my new netbook but I've had a hell of a time trying to get it to access the internet, I've tried installing drivers but I don't really know how.

I have a desktop pc with xubuntu 9.10 32bit installed. I don't have direct access to this machine, but they told me that internet is not working (firefox, synaptic,etc...), but only skype works! If they reboot on windows, everything works well, so it's not a matter of connection or dns.It's very important because they work with that computer. I have a WUSB54GC v.1 wireless USB adapter which I use to connect to my home network. For some reason, over time my reception has been getting worse. I'm not sure if this is due to the router or the adapter. In addition, when the signal strength dips below 50%, I can no longer receive email or browse the web. This is only a problem with Ubuntu - when I had WinXP installed, I could access the internet mostly regardless of the signal strength.
I started a year ago with the adapter plugged directly into the computer. After a while I found it necessary to use an extension cord to place the adapter outside my room, closer to the router. A while later it was time for another extension cord, and now my reception has gotten worse again, but I can't extend it any further.
I am running the latest ubuntu and I am having trouble getting networking sorted. I have 2 networks, one wired (eth0) and one wireless (wlan0). I connect to the internet using wireless. The problem is that I can only successfully connect to the internet if I disconnect from eth0. I have hit this problem with Windows machines and the solution was to adjust the "interface metric" in "Advanced TCP/IP Settings" so that the wireless was the preferred connection. How can I achieve something similar in Ubuntu?

On my other machine, which still uses F13, remote login works just fine. Is there any change in the default behaviour of the sshd I am not aware of? I would really appreciate your assistance!
Once I updated to 10.04 I had some problems with my themes, but updated it and it works fine now. BUT, in firefox, 3.6.3 it looks like this:

I am trying to install some packages in a ubuntu 8.10 server, however, apt-get doesn't work (I get several 'not found' errors). Is there any way to do that? I know this version is probably not supported anymore but I can't just format a customer server because it's OS is outdated...I just can't put my sources.list on it because I am on ubuntu 10.10 and it would download updates for the wrong OS probably causing a huge damage on the old one.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running ubuntu 9.10 on a dell mini 10v. I am experienced in running themes and xsplashes, but for some reason i can not successfully install pointers. I drag and drop the pointer themes to the appearance window found from System>Prefrences>Appearances. When i click customize i see that the pointers i instatlled are there, however when i choose them it doesn't work properly, if i go over text or resize a window i see the new pointers but the main pointer always stays the default white.

if I run the above posted script manually, (cd into the dir and execute it), it works fine and produces the result 1 if positive and 0 if negative.
I have a new installation of 11.04 with an ATI Radeon HD 2400 video card that previously worked fine under an earlier release.
I tried installing the proprietary drivers through the Additional Drivers section, rebooted and the video is choppy (dragging windows, etc).
From other reports around the Internet I've read, it's clear I'm not the only one experiencing this issue.
I tried the manual instructions, which turned out to be a mess and ultimately didn't work, either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung N130 with a Realtek 8192 wifi card (possibly 8192e, I'm not sure) and I am trying to run Fedora 12 on it. I used to run Ubuntu until trying their latest beta and realizing it's not very good, so I looked for something else. Ubuntu was at least easy to get the wifi working with just a few quick commands that were written out, word for word, in order, on the Ubuntu forums. I tried openSUSE on here and it didn't have wifi working out of the box either but people on their forums refused to give me actual instructions and just kept bumping me from thread to thread with people giving vague advice or else just telling me I was looking in the wrong place. I'm hoping that someone can give me clear and detailed instructions on how to get this wifi card working. Keep in mind that I am coming from Ubuntu and so I'm not super comfortable in CLI, if I need to do some CL stuff I will need clear and detailed instructions on how to do that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed Fedora 12 on my computer. Earlier I had tried Arch Linux & Linux Mint 7 on the same but on all the three OS's I was unable to get net working. I connect to the net via DSL modem(MTNL BB) & connect it to the PC via ethernet port. Though Fedora 12 shows that the network is connected but I'm unable to browse or chat.
Here is a screensnap of network information;
Pinging google.com returns with an unknown host error while pinging 192.168.1.1 yeilds no results. The cursor gives busy status & upon manually cancelling the ping, I get 100% packet loss. I connect the same modem via USB to my laptop but the internet works fine there.
I installed F10 today. From live-usb wlan worked fine, but after installing it doesn't find any networks. I tried to google this problem, but everybody says wifi works out of the box. Not for me.
Solved: I disappled wireless networking and appled it again. It found all networks.
