Has anyone experienced random wireless dropouts? Like one minute, you are connected and then not, with no obvious reason as to why it happened, just network manager popping up requesting a password to reconnect.
View 3 RepliesRunning 10.10RC on an IBM Thinkpad T43. My wireless drops out intermittently, it could DL a gig or two fine then without any warnings just drops, I have to reboot. Here is the lspci, its using ipw2200 driver.

I am using Fedora 12. I am able to connect to my wireless network (95% of the time at least) on start-up automatically, however after anywhere between a few seconds to a few minutes later it cuts out and will not reconnect. It appears to be that whenever it finds next doors network it disconnects from mine! I have set the channel to 9, and my neighbor's is on 1. I have a USB N+ adapter, and a G+ MIMO PCI card, however do not know which is being used to connect with.
View 5 Replies View RelatedToday my eth0 has intermittently shut down a couple of times without obvious cause from router or modem which appear normally lit. This happened a month or two ago soon after an update and them went away. I have unchecked ssh in the firewall settings as it is not needed but this has never been a problem. In the block of code there should be one attempt to graphically restart eth0.

I've joined this forum because I couldn't find any answer anywhere else by searching the internet. I've installed a F10 64-bit default installation (with updates until 25 Feb. 2009), using nvidia latest proprietary driver, pulseaudio, kde4, proprietary flash 10 beta 64-bit plugin with firefox. When I play music on Myspace the sound dropouts randomly each 3 to 30 seconds when using my M-Audio Delta 66 soundcard.
I'm using the same configuration in F8 without this problem. After login (in F10) and some other times I also have a Kernel failure message: ALSA sound/core/pcm_lib.c:154: BUG: stream = 1, pos = 0xaaa, buffer size = 0xaaa, period size = 0xaaa I don't know if it has got anything to do with the dropouts. There are no messages in /var/log/messages when the dropouts occurs.

I use ubuntu 10.10 and disconnects from wireless at random. after it reconnects the the connection speed is very slow and unstable. It's not my router because it works fine on my sister's netbook (which is also running ubuntu) and it worked fine when I was running windows? I'm not very advanced with linux so you know. I don't have IPv6 enabled. My laptop is an "Advent QRC430" my wireless card is QCOM Q802XKG Wireless Network Card.

I do not observe this behavior when operating my laptop under Windows 7. Following some suggestions given in this forum , I uninstalled networkmanager and installed wicd. It is ON almost allways (90% of the time my laptop is on).My processors are not active and there is no an obvious process that captures my cpu.I had the same problem on fedora 13 and 14 too. I hoped that they solved it in 15.... but... this was not true . When I run it from inside Windows 7 (from a Virtual Machine) it works fine! I was searching to the internet to find a solution (for days) with no luck!Is it a compatibility problem between my CPU and Linux kernel?The problem is very annoying indeed and prevents me for using fedora as my default OS with or w/o A/C.I must say that the same problem exists in ubuntu 10 too
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have this weird issue which only appears when I am using 64 bit Ubuntu. Every now and then my laptop seems to go into a kernel panic (system unresponsive, numlock and scrollock lights flash repetitively) only when I am using the broadcom wireless. I can connect to my wireless router and use the internet and local network, but eventually, kablamo, crash, bang, boom. The only way out of the crash is to power off completely. After repowering, the wireless network is fine until the next crash. There does not seem to be a pattern or time period to cause this crash either. I have purged network manager(which I couldn't get to use my wireless) and am using wicd, which allows me to connect wirelessly.

I took pics w/ a camera (because I suck and don't know how to take screenshots) and I'll try to get them up. Its all nonsensical and is really making me concerned about the state of my computer. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have my laptop dual booted between Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7. In Ubuntu I randomly lose connection to the wireless network. It always works fine when I first boot into Ubuntu but after a while my wireless connection will go down. The signal strength meter will go to zero bars and the black popup message will appear that my wireless connection has disconnected. At first, if I just wait a bit, the connection will come back. However, after about 4 or 5 times of doing this it will then ask me for my password, and inputting the password does not reconnect me to the AP. I am finally forced to reboot. Then it works OK for a while again and the cycle repeats.
It works fine in Windows7 all day, every day. I have the Release Candidate of Windows7 so it's going to expire soon. I would really prefer to make Ubuntu my everyday OS on this laptop rather than pay for a Windows7 license but I cannot tolerate a flaky wireless connection.
I had 8.1 on this laptop at one point and I never had any problems with the wireless then, that I can remember. I had no Ubuntu for a while but then I came back with the 9.1 and was loving it until the wireless problem reared it's ugly head.

What are the benefits to upgrading to F15 from F14 if any? Has there been some huge step forward in performance, security or some other reason that makes it worth while to upgrade? I know many people make the move simply because they wish to have the latest and greatest, but is there any reason specifically to upgrade to the latest and greatest?

View 13 Replies View RelatedAfter a fresh install of opensuse 11.2 I followed the multimedia guide to install mm-support. Sound is working, results in xine are excellent. Compared to 11.1, vlc now plays sound with drops about every second. To be more precise: sound is ok for several seconds, then a first drop appears. Thereafter the time between the following drops slowly shortens. After a minute or so, the drops come in intervals of about a second.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing problems with sound in Maverick on my Dell Inspiron i6400. When the video gets busy while playing sound, the sound gets highly degraded (dropouts, glitches, clicks and cracklings). For example, it happens when an advert animation is playing on a webpage, or when scrolling a document/a webpage. It especially happens when scrolling a document in evince. This is a frustrating issue since I basically cannot work while playing music! My sound chipset is a Intel HDA ICH7.
An important point is that it only happens when I use a "large" screen resolution (eg 1920x1080), and not when the resolution equals or is below 1280x800. Therefore I think this is related to the video side. The two CPU's cores (Intel T2050@1.60GHz) never reach 100% load when the problem arises. The memory is not full either. I use Compiz and various desktop effects, but the problem still remains without it. My video card is an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 with 256 Mb of RAM (using the default free driver shipped with Ubuntu). Also, the video is fluid and flawless so I do not understand where the problem comes from. This might be related to a priority/ordering issue, I do not know.

I have run into a problem with my desktop using roughly 50% RAM (w/o buffers or cache) while running a limited set of applications (fbterm, tmux, weechat, ncmpc, rtorrent) on the command line. This usage only increases roughly 5-10% when starting X (an addition of xcompmgr, awesome wm, zim, parcellite, 2x conky (one replacing root-tails functionality), plus firefox and other apps that may or may not be running from time to time). (h)top is reporting programs only using roughly .1-.2% per proccess and roughly 100 processes (current look at top shows 120 processes, only 32 of which are registering any usage over 0.0%) The RAM usage when in the console (which I will add is about 150MB after boot) is totally unreasonable and I need some direction on trying to find out what is using all of this RAM.

I have installed Debian Wheezy on my laptop today, which went relativly smoothly. The only problem that is left (for now) is that my wireless LAN disconnects 1-2 times every 30 minutes, just to reconnect a few seconds later. Obviously that is very annoying, especially when watching streams on twitch, videos on youtube and so on.A thread I found on google suggested to use the command dmesg right after my wireless lan connection drops. So I waited for the next disconnect, issued the command and got the following output:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 3 cronjobs set up on my Unix server . Out of which 2 cron jobs run the same script but at different times and the other one runs another script.
So in the 2 jobs which are set to run PMDaily.sh for eg , One runs on Sunday at 8AM and the other runs monday to friday at 6 AM . How ever the Sunday cronjob works (runs through the crontab) but the Cron job set for Monday to Friday is not working. However manually if i run this script it workd perfectly.
Please let me know what could be the possible reasons for this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless keyboard and for some reason it is typing random letters, symbols, and numbers while I am not even touching the keyboard. I tried a different wireless keyboard and that worked for awhile, but even that started to do the same thing. I plugged in a cord keyboard and that has been working fine, but I am unable to type my password if it goes into sleep mode or select my windows partition. It's very confusing and I plan on reinstalling both windows and linux anyways it's that time, but I have to figure this problem out before I do.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy web server does not currently run Suexec. All files within the /var/www directory are owned by vsftpd and belong to nogroup. Apparently, this setup causes issues with some scripts that attempt to upload files and change files, such as the SMF Forum package.
Here's some background information that goes into further details regarding the issues I'm having:[URL]..Why would uploading a file using PHP in SMF not work with the owner being vsftpd belonging to the nogroup when the folder has been chmod to 777? I tested my own simple PHP upload script, and it was able to upload a file without issues. Yet, I've been told that my server is improperly configured if I'm not using Suexec. Why is this? Also, if I did use Suexec, what creates the users? Would I have to add them manually, or would they be created automatically as users based on their FTP login and added as subusers to the vsftpd group? Why should I use Suexec? I don't understand what's wrong with my current setup. How does it work in terms of users? Are users created and just added to a subgroup, or are they created like normal user accounts on the actual server? Do they get their own /home/username directory as well? I'm so confused about Suexec. What I've read about it doesn't make sense.[URL]..
My suspend-to-disk and suspend-to-RAM stopped working months ago. I've grasped at straws about why ever since, but I really don't think it's a software problem, because I've reinstalled my system (MEPIS) repeatedly. What sort of hardware failures could cause this? What should I be looking for? I notice that at boot, Linux always says "no resume image found," even if I left the system in suspension or hibernation. I can post parts of the dmesg if someone tells me what to look for; I can't display the whole thing because it's too long to fit here.

View 3 Replies View Related I've recently built a VM appliance using Ubuntu 8.04 that is given to customers for an easy deployment of our software. Ubuntu works great in a VM and its perfect for our software (which is a web application).
Some customers are paranoid (rightfully so) and they will run a vulnerability assessment on the web application. A particular customers' assessment fails as it finds that the appliance isn't running the latest version the Apache web server. I thought that just running "apt-get upgrade" would upgrade all of the software packages to the latest so that failures in the assessment caused by outdated software packages would be resolved... However this is not the case...
I realize that there is a probably a whole process for submitting/approving the latest versions of software packages in Ubuntu, that then get pushed to the repositories - But how does this work? What exactly does "apt-get upgrade" do if it doesnt upgrade packages to the latest?
For example: I need Apache 2.2.11 to fix a particular vulnerability. But when running apt-get upgrade, it doesnt actually upgrade the Apache version number (or any of the other packages). I'm stuck on Apache 2.2.8, and I can't find a .DEB installer for 2.2.11 or later.
I have set up a small Mesh Wireless Hotspot at a local Flea Market. My plan is to add in one of those HotSpot services for billing and such..ut until I have enough users to justify that expenditure, I am just going to manually set up accounts.The system is all up and running as an OPEN SYSTEM.
