Today my eth0 has intermittently shut down a couple of times without obvious cause from router or modem which appear normally lit. This happened a month or two ago soon after an update and them went away. I have unchecked ssh in the firewall settings as it is not needed but this has never been a problem. In the block of code there should be one attempt to graphically restart eth0.

Has anyone experienced random wireless dropouts? Like one minute, you are connected and then not, with no obvious reason as to why it happened, just network manager popping up requesting a password to reconnect.

It is ON almost allways (90% of the time my laptop is on).My processors are not active and there is no an obvious process that captures my cpu.I had the same problem on fedora 13 and 14 too. I hoped that they solved it in 15.... but... this was not true . When I run it from inside Windows 7 (from a Virtual Machine) it works fine! Have followed guidelines on turningoff NetworkManager and turning on network. i went to command line and did a couple of chkconfig things and entered ip address, with subnet. when i do ip addr show i see under eth0 inet 192.168.3.11/32 which is 255.255.255.0, i'm pretty sure. i do not see gateway. when i go to system/network get prompted to log into root, network config window opens. icheck eth0 and the subnet mask is 192.168.3.1, the gateway, which is in correctly, in the gateway slot, as well. i still can not ping to from my xp based multihomed router.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOfflate I installed F11 i586 on my laptop. F11 shares the hard disk with Vista Home Premium 32-bit. The problem is that when running F11 (or even Ubuntu), my system shut off suddenly(not a normal OS shut down, but a sudden power off without any warning). This could have been a hardware trouble(heating) but it doesn't happen with Vista.

View 7 Replies View Related5.10 Breezy configured as machine controller. Works great eth0 is a fixed IP to communicate with controller comms board. Not easy at all to alter - the comms board is hard coded to listen on eth0 for commands.
I can use eth1 as the default gateway and ping google.com, etc. But when I now attempt to communicate with the controller with netcat, e.g.

I obviously never get an answer since the request is passed via eth1. Using the -g option with netcat doesn't work either. I had a look at iptables but it doesn't seem to be able to do what I want. How I can still use eth0 as my communication port to the controller whilst eth1 is the default gateway?
I have two servers on a vlan at my datacentre/colocation and previously both servers had public IPs on their eth0 interfaces. The servers are HP ProLiant DL360s - one is a G4 and one is a G5 The newer G5 is now the LAMP server and the G4 has been retired and I want to repurpose it as an iSCSI target using openfiler freenas or similar.
My G5 has public/static IPs lashed to the eth0 physical interface and the eth1 is not configured to do anything yet. The G4 will have both interfaces available - perhaps one for ssh access from one of my static public IPs and the other to be a private IP on the local vlan. Here is what I am trying to get my head around...
The G5
eth0 - Public IP - full LAMP services on two or three virtual interfaces
eth1 - Private IP 192.168.0.1
The G4
eth0 - Public IP for ssh
eth1 - Private IP 192.168.0.2
Because my traffic between eth1 on these boxes is via private IPs on the local private vlan it doesn't add to my quota for bandwidth. How do I go about configuring the routing and gateways and other aspects of this so that I can run a private IP space network between the eth1s and still serve the outside world from the eth0s...
I am afraid that if I assign the private IPs to the eth1 interfaces the routing may either not work or interfere with the access to the production internet facing interfaces (eth0s).
I'm running a dual boot Ubuntu 10.04/Backtrack 4 (Ubuntu 8.10) system. I can get internet in the BT4 side but not in the Lucid side. In Lucid I can ping my router, and the network manager says I'm good to go, but I can't get to any web sites. It all started when I tried to put my laptop on another network by mimicking the settings of a computer I had just unplugged from the network. MAC address and all.

i have an asus eeepc that i recently upgraded from ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04. the wireless networking has worked great up until about 2 weeks ago. now it occasionally drops the connection (can't ping the gateway), even though the "blue bars" still say connected. my current solution is to click the bars, do a "disconnect", and then reconnect.i've ruled out the router being a problem (all 17 other wireless devices in my house remain connected), and i've ruled out a laptop hardware problem (when i dual boot into win7, i never lose my connection).
i'm new to linux (installed 9.10 back in february), but not new to computers/networking. i run a major campus lan [windows based] and have worked all aspects from the early mainframe days to client support to server admin to helpdesk - after 17 years, i'm now in management, so i've lost my edge a little... plus, being brand new to linux, i'm feeling a little lost in the troubleshooting aspect of this.i do believe that i've narrowed my problem down to "almost exactly" when this occurs. the wireless connection drops out as soon as i start to do "network intensive" stuff like watch a videos video, play a facebook flash game, or (and here's the kicker), try to run the update manager. unfortunately, this means that i have not been able to update for a few weeks now. i'm up to about 150mb worth of updates that are waiting.
My network seems to be dropping every few minutes to few hours. There are a lot of networks in the area (apartment in NYC) and I wonder if it might be due to competing traffic. Any ideas for how to tell what channels other networks are on? or other modifications to router settings that might improve performance in this situation?Additionally the "Invalid Misc" in iwconfig is counting quite quickly.

My wife has a Macbook with built-in Wifi connected to our Linksys router. Previously, the connection would drop 0-2 times a day. She would turn off Wifi on her Macbook, turn it back on, and it would reconnect immediately.
Since getting my Ubuntu PC, these disconnections have become more frequent, every 30-90 minutes. They effect both computers simultaneously. And now, I MUST turn off Wifi on my Ubuntu box to regain the connection. Switching it off and on with the Mac doesn't help. Unplugging the router doesn't help. I have to run upstairs and uncheck "Enable Wireless" on the Ubuntu Network Manager outlet.
The connection doesn't seem to drop if the Ubuntu PC is sitting idle. But it can happen with web surfing, Samba file transfers, or torrent downloading.
I noticed that Encore has a linux driver for my card called RT2860. It looks very difficult to install. Ubuntu automatically uses RT2800. So I don't know if this could be a driver issue. Also, shouldn't my bit rate be more than 1Mb/s? Both the router and the card are 802.11n. Are the dmesg errors something to be concerned about?

We have two recently installed centos machines, each running 5.5, and hosting an elastix pabx distro as well as a Virtual PC instance. On both machines, the network adaptor fails completely every week or so. As they are remote machines, the only option we have when this happens is a manual reboot.
I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but the only significant difference on these machines to others we have deployed is the Virtual PC instance. The machines have dual ethernet ports, with one assigned to the virtual PC. When the network failure occurs, it does not effect the virtual machine, which continues along merrily.
My expert colleague does not think so, but can anyone think of any way that our configuration could be causing the problem? If not, does anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be, or where I would start looking for information on the machine to debug the issue?

I downloaded Fedora 10 32bit and put it on a Dell Dimension 8200 to save it from the recycle bin. Everything seems to work except I cannot get an IP addr. Roadrunner is my ISP using a cable modem and a Linksys Instant Broadband Series Etherfast Cable/DSL router model BEFSR41. In system-config-network, the nic shows inactive. If I activate it a window opens saying "determining IP information for eth0". After a short time the message adds the word "failed". Using a Windows PC on the same network, I can look at the DHCP connections on the Linksys and I see the MAC addr for the PC running Fedora.
From the OS installation, /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth0 has following:

I'm guessing this is a r8169 problem. This worked for a while after upgrading to fc13 (from fc12)
I'm not able to get off the local network with eth0. I can though with eth1. Both interfaces are connected to the same switch and have the same network, gateway, and dns server addresses.
The odd part is I am able to ping eth0 from off the LAN and get a reply.

I can't start eth0 and have read thru many of the threads on this and can't figure it out. What does this message mean?

The problem is that after a reboot, both NICs always show up as eth0 when you left click on the networking icon on the top right. I use my T61 both wireless and in the dock, where I switch to the wired connection. After the latest round of updates, I seem to have lost the ability to switch to the wired network. When I turn the laptop on, I see it connect to the wireless network, but when I left click on the tray icon under Wired Network is says Device not managed.I have not made any changes to anything in the last couple weeks, besides some updates. How do I go about getting the wired network back in there?I tried to add eth0 back into System - Preferences - Network Connections, but whenever I try and add eth0, but it still says Device not managed.
