Ubuntu Multimedia :: Copy Random Jpg From Random Folder

Jan 19, 2010

I'm looking for a script that copies a random .jpg from a random folder in my ~/Pictures folder to my ~/temp folder with a standard filename. This file will then be displayed in Conky. I can fix the last part, but I cannot find a way to do the first part.

Ubuntu :: Copy / Move Random Files From One Directory To Another

May 7, 2011

We have two folders: source folder and destination folder. In source folder we have many sub folders and many files of different type!Script that would copy or move defined number of files from source to destination folder. Files must be selected randomly and sub folder in source folders must be selected randomly and we don't copy or move defined number of files just form one sub folder in source folder. In destination folder sub directory structure of source folder should not be preserved. Solution should be robust and as simple as possible.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Random Play In Rhythmbox ?

Jan 16, 2011

If there is a problem with random play in Rhythmbox as my experience with it is driving me daft. Normally when working I like to play music but the continual playing of one CD is too much to bear.

I had re-installed my OS and initially just dragged and dropped over all my music from my backup only to find that having set the system to randomly play music that it did not. Initially it selected from 3 CDs of the same artist. There were over 300 tracks available to select but it only chose from approx 20% of those available. No matter what I tried the selection would revert to this one artist.

Gave up on things and started everything fresh. Removed Rhythmbox and re-installed it. Took all the CDs (14) and installed them directly into it the from the devices display in the side panel.

Tried to play again only to find that this time round it would only select from one artist and from a dual CD. Previously I had a choice of 4CDs by Capercaillie. Now I have a random selection of 33 tracks by them. Much as I like the artist it was getting a bit too much to bear. Deleted all 33 tracks only to find that the next random selection stuck on another artist and as before the one CD.

This is totally beyond a joke. As my car radio often fails as the signal is blocked by the mountains I had hoped that I could use an iPod to play my music but if all it will play is the one CD it is a complete waste of time.

I would like to have matters resolved before I switch cars in May. Additionally I would like to listen to Rhythmbox when working on my system as happened before the re-installation of my OS.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: USB Camera Turning On At Random Times

May 7, 2011

I have noticed since upgrading to 11.04 that my USB camera will turn on for a couple of seconds at random times.

Is there any way to determine what task is doing this?

It is very disturbing and makes me suspicious that I'm being spied on.

I could unplug the camera, but I'd rather track down the source of the problem.

Debian Multimedia :: Random Crash Of X-server (Jessie KDE)

Nov 5, 2015

Aprox. 1 time per day / every two days hangs the x-server. It hangs a few secs then is being killed and restarted. A popup window in the task bar tells me the restart of the x-server. After that about 15 sec. I can continue to work but sometimes the gtk2 apps lose their integrity thus I have to restart by logging off and in again.

Code: Select all    Nov  3 09:25:30 PC2 org.kde.kuiserver[1070]: kuiserver: Fatal IO error: client killed

what does it mean "Remote peer vanished with error" ? Remote access? I am not competent to evaluate that.

I never suffered from this bug under Wheezy. What could be wrong? Some conflict with the X-server?

Debian Multimedia :: VLC Video Playback Random Freezing

Jul 17, 2010

When I play videos in VLC, the video output seems to randomly freeze while playing the video. This does not effect the audio though. The audio output continues, but with the video frozen on a frame. This is happening in windowed and full-screen mode. I have to use "pkill vlc" each time twice then start VLC again. I have had to resort to mplayer for the time being. I am running squeeze. I was not experiencing this problem before though (started within the past week), so it must be due to some recent upgrade. I have tried "aptitude purge vlc && aptitude install vlc", but I am still experiencing the same problem.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Random Flash/Shockwave Objects Refuse To Work In Firefox

Jan 6, 2010

i run ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, using firefox 3.5.6 (courtesy of ubuntuzilla) as my web browser. i've had a problem with some flash and/or shockwave objects simply refusing to work inside firefox, despite having 64-bit flash player and all necessary plugins/addons/extras etc. installed.

there is no pattern to the problems, other than all of them being flash or shockwave objects that won't play. the majority of videos videos do play, including hd ones. however, this morning i encountered a pair of videos clips that simply would not play. i could load the page they were on, but all i ever saw was a black box, with no audio, where the video should have been.

i also noticed that on some of the videos that do play, the flash player's built-in volume control does nothing. i can slide it up or down or mute it entirely, but the sound from the flash video is unaffected.

i'll post urls of the problem videos later, so others can try them.

meanwhile i was able to watch other videos videos without issue, on another tab, aside from the broken flash player volume control.

i've also had a problem with the [url] player for a radio station, which i believe uses shockwave. i like to listen to atlanta, ga's wsb 750 am radio in the mornings before work, but so far i have to do it on a virtual windows xp machine running firefox 3.5.6, under virtualbox. if i try to open the player in firefox 3.5.6 running in the host os (ubuntu 9.10), i get only a blank popup window. url is [url]; click the "listen live" box at upper left to try it.

both machines, the host ubuntu 9.10 install and the guest windows xp machine, use exactly the same ad-blocking hosts file. i use the noscript addon in the host os install of firefox, but i allow any and all scripts when visiting the radio station's website.

since the streaming radio works on the virtual xp machine, i'm pretty sure my network configuration, hosts file etc. have nothing to do with this.

has anyone else had this problem? the flash content really should be agnostic with respect to the host os and browser, shouldn't it?

i guess it could be some random problem with the 64-bit vs. the 32-bit version of the flash plugin, so i may try instaling 32-bit ubuntu on a virtual machine to find out whether there's a difference.

Ubuntu :: Random Freezes In 10.10?

Jan 15, 2011

I've been using Ubuntu for a while now, and ever since I installed 10.10 (I did a clean install) I've been having problems with the computer completely locking up... nothing is responsive. I've not had this problem on any prior Ubuntu version. The problem started after I installed the updates for ubuntu... I have a hunch that its either the nvidia driver i installed or the latest kernel thats causing the problem. I'm using the proprietary driver for nvidia and my card is a GeForce6100 nForce 405... the kernel 2.6.35-22... as you can imagine its quite annoying having the computer lock up.. P.S.- the freezes aren't exactly random, they happen generally when I'm using high CPU %'s (e.g. when i import all my music at once to rhythmbox and playing spring rts)

Ubuntu :: Random Log Out / Stop This?

This has been happening since I installed natty. I experience any kind of crash alert, freezing or slowdown before it happens, just out of the sudden it happens.

Ubuntu :: Random Shutdown/Power Off?

I've been using Ubuntu on and off since 8.04, but only last week decided to make a real switch across to it.After installing 9.10 64bit though, my laptop while running Ubuntu just turns itself off at completely random times - it doesn't seem to go through any shut down procedure or anything, it's more like the power's just suddenly cut. It sometimes happens 5 minutes after being turned on, or sometimes 4 or 5 hours, it really is random.I really have no idea where to even begin trying to stop this. I think it must be a software thing because this has never happened with windows or earlier versions of Ubuntu, but other than that I don't know what to do to stop this.I'm dual booting Windows 7 32bit and Ubuntu 9.10 64bit, and this is on a Toshiba L350-D 11-D laptop, which has a 64bit AMD processor.

There doesn't appear to be any option to "Don't show on startup."

When I go to System -> System Settings -> Advanced -> Autostart, it does not appear under Desktop File. The only thing that appears under "Script File" is gtk-2-engines-qtcurve.rc.sh gtk2engines... which does not appear to be the issue.

I'm guessing there's a shell command that will give me a more in-depth look at what should and should not run upon startup? Would really like to startup with a clean screen!
