Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom STA Driver Active But Not In Use?

Oct 16, 2010

After trying to make audio output work on Lenovo b560 notebook I finally succeeded but the wireless stopped working. The driver was removed. I tried to follow the instructions from Broadcom http://www.broadcom.com/docs/linux_sta/README.txt and it started showing the driver in admin - drivers, it shows that it is activated but not in use, but once I get to this point

"modprobe wl"
it shows this:
install /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install wl
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.32-25-generic-pae/updates/dkms/wl.ko
FATAL: Error inserting wl (/lib/modules/2.6.32-25-generic-pae/updates/dkms/wl.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

Hardware :: AMD HD6950 Driver Not Active - (Ubuntu 11.04)

Jun 15, 2011

Yesterday I made my first Linux(Ubuntu 11.04 x64) Installation I think I have some Issues with my GPU driver.

My System Specs:

Core i5-750@stock
4GB DDR3 1333MHz
Corsair F60 SSD

-GUI feels laggy
-glxgears result way too low (2100fps)
-HD video verry laggy (1080p mkv with vlc)

I can set things up on Catalyst Control Center like VSync or scaling options, but if I go to System->System Administration->Additional Drivers (I have german version installed so it could be called slightly different) there is a listing for the FGLRX proprietary Driver and its marked as not active. (Last time I tried to activate it, it broke my bootloader somehow) So I wanted to ask what I should do (before I risk my bootloader a second time by activating the driver in that particular menu)

Ubuntu Servers :: MySQL - Setup An Active / Active Load Balanced And High Available?

Mar 11, 2011

how to setup an Active/Active Load Balanced and High Available (If one of the nodes is down the system still runs) MySQL cluster. I have found quite a few howto's but I have some things unclear in my mind. I found a few solutions like this one: [URL] or this: [URK] Those are using two or four MySQL nodes, two Load Balancers to avoid a single point of failure but only one MySQL cluster management server. What happens if the MySQL cluster management fails?

I have also found a "MySQL Master-Master Circular Replication" technique but from what I read, with this option there is a chance that conflicts will arise if node A and node B both insert an auto-incrementing key on the same table.

Networking :: IP Address Active But Not Seen?

Sep 20, 2010

I have a 2 node Oracle cluster running on RHEL 5.4. One server went down the other day, and then restarted. Virtual IP address switched to the other node as it should, but did not switch back where the failed node came up - problem is the ip address is still on node 2, but I cannot see it or down the interface as it does not show up with ifconfig -a. I would expect to see it on eth0:2 but only eth0:1 is showing up with the correct vip for the node. ifconfig -a on node 1 shows n vip configured. I can telnet to this ip address and login, so know it is still on node 2, so why can't ifconfig -a show it, which interface is it on, and how do I remove it so I can get it back on node 1

Ubuntu Networking :: Asus USB-N13 Not Showing As Active But Is Detected

Apr 30, 2010

I recently purchased an Asus USB-N13 and am having some trouble getting it setup. I have followed this post [URL] including downloading the driver version, but I am now a little stuck. This is a laptop which used to have a Netgear Wg111v2 wireless USB adapter (laptop does not have internal wireless). That adapter died so I purchased the Asus. The day I purchased the Asus adapter they were both plugged in at the same time for a short period - not sure if that is relevant or not but just thought I should let you know. Here is some output from various commands:

ron@ron-laptop:~$ lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82855PM Processor to I/O Controller (rev 21)
00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82855PM Processor to AGP Controller (rev 21)

I have restarted a couple of times with it plugged in and with it not plugged. At no time does it show in the Network Manager aplet.

Ubuntu Networking :: Linksys DHCP Active IP Table?

Apr 3, 2011

I recently acquired a Linksys BEFW11S4 v.4 router which I am using for my wired home network (wireless is turned off). Yesterday I was checking my router settings and I noticed under "Status>DHCP Clients Table>DHCP Active IP table" there was a weird looking Client name. I deleted it and when I checked back this morning it was there again. I checked my devices (PC, router, Xbox) and none have this MAC. How can someone connect to my wired network when wireless is disabled and I have changed my SSID and created a very strong password? Wouldn't someone need to know my SSID/ password? I do not have a WEP passphrase currently, but I felt it was not necessary since my network is wired.

Before, during and after the disconnection, the system responds to pings regularly (0% packet loss). It takes about 5-10 minutes before I can make an SSH connection again.I have tried restarting SSH on the server and rebooting the server. I even removed and reinstalled sshd and it is still happening. What might be causing these random disconnects and how might I solve this?

Fedora Networking :: Ethernet Will Not Become Active

Jan 5, 2011

Currently I am working at a college as a student worker, and one of the classes that needs to take place requires that Fedora 12 be installed. Now, this isn't greatly important, but so far on a few of the installs I cannot get the Ethernet device to actually become active. I've tried restarting the computer, reinstalling Fedora 12, and going into the actual network area to click on "Activate" but it is grayed out. So currently, a few machines cannot connect to the internet - including the professor station. I'm not entirely sure what to do here, since most other posts I have read reported that they were able to actually click on "Activate" and it would work.

Right now, the computers are connected to the internet. The jacks do work as they were tested with computers that are able to connect to the net themselves. These computers NICs do work too as we have separate hard-drives in them booting into XP, which do connect to the net without problem.Any help would be appreciated. If anymore information is required, please let me know. I'll do my best to provide you with this information.

Networking :: Fedora 13 NIC Not Active At Boot

Jun 15, 2010

Most of my experience configuring network settings has been through various GUI tools available in GNOME and KDE. I have some older hardware that will not run KDE or GNOME and I am trying to configure the NIC. I have installed Webmin to try to configure the interface, and it does fine for setting a static address or DHCP address, but the interface (eth0) is not active at boot.

As soon as I run ifup eth0, it will use the assigned IP or pull DHCP based on settings, but I can't seem to get it to automatically activate at boot. And yes, /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 does have ONBOOT=yes set. I need two things...

1 - are there any good cli tools, ncurses or such like netcfg I can install to manage the interface (I have tried the network manager cli tools, maybe I just don't get it, but that isn't working so good for me)

2 - how to make the interface activate at boot.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To The Internet With Ppp0 While Eth0 Is Active

Jul 2, 2010

My machine has Ubuntu 10.4, installed a week ago. I'm connecting to the Internet with a Wireless 3G modem, the interface is named ppp0. Additionally, I have a network card that is connected to a home router, that's eth0. Everything works fine with eth0 disabled, all my apps can access the internet correctly. But, my issue is that when i enable eth0, i can't access the internet with any app.

So why do i need eth0 anyway? The thing is that i must share my internet connection with my sister, who is also connected to our home router. I planned to give her access by installing squid on this machine and configuring her browser to connect to squid. However, since none of my apps can connect to the internet while eth0 is active (whereas squid and all other apps work fine with eth0 disabled) I can't let her connect to squid while squid is working correctly.BTW selecting "use this connection only for resources on its network" under "routes..." of the ipv4 tab of "Auto Ethernet" made it a little better. Firefox and Xchat started to work with eth0 active. Squid still doesn't work though (althought it works just fine with eth0 disabled)

If I CHMOD 770, the Domain owner or Domain group member of the directory cant access the directory. Also, when creating a folder within the share, I need to set the directory mask as 777 in order to enter those sub folders.

Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Doesn't Work When Eth0 Is Active

Mar 13, 2011

I am running the latest ubuntu and I am having trouble getting networking sorted. I have 2 networks, one wired (eth0) and one wireless (wlan0). I connect to the internet using wireless. The problem is that I can only successfully connect to the internet if I disconnect from eth0. I have hit this problem with Windows machines and the solution was to adjust the "interface metric" in "Advanced TCP/IP Settings" so that the wireless was the preferred connection. How can I achieve something similar in Ubuntu?
