I found lots of pepole who belongs to India and using BSNL Data card wants to connect Internet from fedora so I thought post a thread which will help all how are using BSNL EVDO Data Card. At first click on application - System Tools - Terminal enter the following code on your terminal
Updated part starts here When I was using Fedora 10 I post this thread on that time gedit worked properly with "su" Now here if you are using Fedora 14 and by using su gedit is not appearing then try
Code:
su -
instaed of only "su" hope gedit will work properly. If dose not work then you can follow the next post instructions. Or you can ask in the forum for I am updating "su" by "su -" If you are using earlier version you can try by only "su" or "su-" if none of this works then follow next post. Just remember you have do this in a single terminal and step by step to avoid maximum uses of "su" or "su -"

I have installed fedora 12 recently. after installation i tried to connect to the internet using BSNL broadband connection. I filled in the details such as IP, Netmask, Gateway and even DNS servers. In the services also I ensured that the network manager services is on. However even though my computer cannot connect to the internet. I then tried the ping test of the modem from the address 192.168.1.1 and found that the ping test is successful. Then i tried the network administrator and there I noticed something unusual.
There are two options in the devices eth0 and eth1 thats ok but the unusual; thing is that the Activate (green button), Deactivate (red button) and even the delete buttons are in the background and I cannot select them. Isthis the problem for the network connectivity.

I purchased a new Desktop PC and MTS MBLAZE data card. It works in Windows XP OS. To make it work in Fedora GNOME OS how can I proceed? Which software do I need? Where do I get it and how to download and instal it in my PC? The firm selling the data card do not have an easy solution.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was testing a bug in F12+Acer Aspire One and its 'suspend' feature (you can probably find the thread) and I ended with my SDHC card messed up. I formatted it as ext2 (or ext3, don't remember exactly) and apparently its superblock got corrupted. For one thing there is a single file I want to recover from the card (I don't mind formatting it afterwards). I am no expert using e2fsck or fsck, that's why I am asking here. In addition I used the "dd" command to create a backup of the drive in a file (so I can start tinkering with it). What is the best course of action to recover my files? Either from the card or from the image?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am newbie to linux, I am dealing with Fedora core 13. I have already succeedded in building an ad hoc network and a WLAN network. My next step is to get some networking statistics such delay, throughput, etc. So, I need traffic to flow through the network for both multimedia traffic and bulk data traffic. How to send files between nodes on the network (I found commands ftp, rcp but do not know whether they are the correct choice for this). ID their any application to perform this?
Also, I want to perform some video streaming between two nodes to study the behavior of real time data transfer. Is thier any application to perform this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Fedora11 running in my machine and it has no LAN port (RJ-45). I have a wireless PCMCIA card.The model of the wireless card is NL-2511CD EXT2(ETSI).When I insert that card to the PCMCIA slot a window pops up and ask for a WEP key. My wireless router is configured with WPA but above pop-up has no WPA option. I suspect my fedora installation does not have the necessary driver for my wireless card.I want to install that driver. I can transfer that file to the machine via thumb drive since it has no network connection yet. How do I install this? Please refer below images as I'm still a newbie at linux.

I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.
Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.
Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.

But when I'm trying to connect with sudo wvdial it is showing that "Modem is not responding" and exit. However, the same procedure with Reliance netconnect+ which take a username and password, working well. Does 3G needs some settings?
View 2 Replies View RelatedA while back I've been playing with the idea of setting up one of my machines as some sort of data server and would like to access it through SSH. I've already conducted some tests through the wireless router and apparently on the software side there are no issues with the SSH thing. I also noticed that since the same adapter was in use (wireless) SSH 'fought' with the Internet for the bandwidth
In order to avoid the aforementioned problem and also in the spirit of enhancing security I am thinking of setting up the following network scheme with two laptops and two routers (a wired and a wireless one):Both laptops would receive the Internet service through the wireless router. Both laptops would be connected through their Ethernet ports to the other router. The wired router wouldn't be connected to the Internet. Would this set up allow me to use SSH only through Ethernet thus eliminating possible bottlenecks in the wireless network? I am operating in the assumption each machine would have two different IPs (one per router), is this correct?
For some weird reason (default network device?) when I connect the Ethernet cable to the laptop, although NetworkManager claims to be still connected to the wireless network, I can not connect to Internet (the wired router has no Internet BTW). But if I unplug the Ethernet cable the Internet continues through the wireless network.
I have a Webserver (Co-Location) and all runs fine ... since last week. Now there are a lot of RX-ERR shown in netstat and ifconfig. And when I try to upload a external website direct on the server for example via wget, it is very very slow and hangs very often.
RX packets:2919694 errors:990386 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:596420
TX packets:4231423 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
I have analyse the network but I was not able to find a problem. My hoster has checked the network and all looks fine. For example my hoster has plugged-in a pc in the same switch ... and was able to do wget (load external data, like websites) in normal speed.
Since last week my websites were delivered slower as before, too. It seemed there is a network-problem ... but how can I find it?
Actually I can install moduls ... but the server needs hours. So, if you knows a good command-line tool to analyse the network.
I have just set up an FC 13 box for a small network application. At the core, the application is supposed to receive some data over a multicast on my local network. However, for some reason, I am not being able to receive any multicast data on this machine. Other machines, on the same network (connected on the same layer 2 switch) are receiving the multicast just fine. I have tried the following things:
1. ensure that I am joining the multicast on the correct interface: the machine has only one ethernet card. Also, after starting my application, I use netstat -g to check for group membership. The multicast subscription shows up fine.
2. ensure there is no error in the program: the program works fine on my person linux machine
3. ensure that the multicast is actually available: it is available on all other local machines. I also wrote my own small broadcaster. data from this broadcaster (running on the same box) is available to other machines but not to my own listener program.
4. no firewall/filtering settings on the layer2 switch
5. TTL setting on the broadcast: have tried changing it from 1 through 5 with no effect. Note that even if the broadcast is coming from the same machine, my machine does not pick it up while other machines on the network do so.
I suspect this has to do with some settings on the network card itself. Below is the output of /sbin/ifconfig on the card:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:08:A1:67:BBA
inet addr:192.200.20.32 Bcast:192.200.20.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::208:a1ff:fe67:bbca/64 Scope:Link

I have a FC13 box that has both Gnome and KDE sessions installed.
I have noticed on the KDE session that data transfer rates are slower than when I use Gnome.
In Gnome, I can transfer files between my FC13 machine and my Ubuntu 10.04 pc at a rate of 6.5 MB/s (52 Mb/s if my maths is correct), but in KDE the rate is only 3.5 MB/s (28 Mb/s).
"ethtool eth0" shows my NIC speed as 100 Mb/s. Obviously I am not hitting anywhere near that speed in either session, (a separate article may be happen in the future to address that), but I am curious as to why KDE is that much slower for file transfer.
I am writing a code in Python where a socket client changes data with the server. That works nice if the connection is up. However it is also supposed to work offline. So I need to be able to detect if the connection is up before sending data, but I was not able to do so. A summary of the code is like that:
Code:
try:
socket = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM)
socket.connect( (self.host, self.port) )
connected = True
except:
connected = False
if connected:
data = "some data byte"
try:
socket.send(data)
except:
connected=False
socket.close()
If I unplug the cable after the connection is ready then the socket sends data and does not detect the connection failure. What is amazing is that the client detects the connection failure just after the cable has been plugged again. Of course there is a loop in the code above and always that connected==False a new connection is made. How could the program detect the connection failure before sending data and then lead the code to an exception?
way of life and am having trouble accessing the internet.
