On my old Acer Aspire One Im running Fedora 12 XFCE. Somehow I have disabled/removed the taskbar. I can still right click the desktop and get the Open in + Applications menu.
How do I re-enable the taskbar?
After updating Xfce to version 4.8 the Xfce menu button on the taskbar dissapeared. If I right-click the taskbar and select "add new item", the Xfce menu option is not there! Is there anyway to get back the Xfce menu button in the taskbar?

Last night, when I logged in, I only got the desktop with whatever icons I have set on the desktop. The menu bar and the taskbars have disappeared completely.
Is there a way to recover this? Is this a common behaviour? I used to get this problem when I tried out QIMO.
After upgrading to Lucid, there is no any taskbar or main menubar in my Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) machine.I can correct this by typing

It also shows in "The GNOME Panel" (desktop switcher) when it is in the foreground.All other applications correctly display in the task bar (Window List)

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've installed chromium browser package from Index of /repositories/openSUSE:/11.4:/Contrib/standard I notice that the taskbar icon has been missing (for quite some time) - I can confirm it on 3 different openSUSE 11.4 installations - on my laptop, my home HTPC/gaming rig and the worstation at work. The icon in the gnome main menu->internet->chromium looks fine but the icon I get in Compiz Ring Switcher seems to be the same white box icon with the blue bar. I'm sure it started happening since an update of Chromium in Feb/Mar timeframe. Does anyone else face similar problem and may be found a solution to get the icon fixed in the taskbar? I've attached a screenshot showing the problem.

View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen I connected to the L32 HDTV over the HDMI cable, picture came up, and I thought great, plug & play. But the title bar and taskbar were missing and I soon learned that this cheap Vizio TV has a native resolution of 1366x768 and simply upscales and chops off what it considers "overscan" when you drive it at the proper 720p 1280x720. To add to the problems, it doesn't report the correct EDID modes (look at your /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see the probes or install and use the read-edid package) so 1366x768 isn't an option out of the box. I spent days mucking around with /etc/X11/xorg.conf with custom Modelines, strange options and copying confs from other threads, trying to get it working at 1366x768 or 1360x768 or 1368x768 (some variations seem to work for some people)
In the end, I didn't have to touch xorg.conf at all =) All I had to do was install the newer NVIDIA 195 drivers!!! Then you get the lovely Overscan Compensation slider in nvidia-settings, and all is well. First, you will have to apt-get remove the old drivers (probably -185 or -180). Install apt-show-versions for an easy way to do that. I had a bunch of junk, I just removed all packages that had nvidia-someversionnumber in the package name.

I'm using Slackware64 13.37 with Robby's Xfce 4.8 build on a laptop with two batteries. I've noticed that when the charge for one battery is depleted, the empty battery icon for the xfce4-power-manager panel applet is displayed as an "image missing" icon (see the attachments for screenshots of how this progresses).
Is this just down to a missing image, or is it more subtle than that? Has anyone else had the same problem, and if so how did you fix it? So far I've tried clearing the GTK+ icon cache and reinstalling the hicolor icon theme package as suggested in other threads in this forum, but nothing changed.
In Windows 7 when you hover over an open application in the taskbar, it shows a small image of that application. Is there a way this can be done in Linux?

I'm a recent convert from Ubuntu (my company uses Juniper VPN and FedoraRHEL is the only certified OS for the client) and I'm having an issue that I can't seem to find the answer to.I installed Fedora 14 and have dual monitors running on a GeForce 8500 GT with one DVI and one VGA connection. VGA is the left monitor, DVI is on the right. After install, Fedora was defaulting to the DVI (right) monitor as the primary, so I used the Monitors utility to rearrange them so they went left to right. I even selected the left (VGA) monitor as the primary. I was hoping that the top and bottom bars would follow.My issue is that both the launch bar on the top, and the task bar on the bottom are still on the right-hand screen, and I can't for the life of me figure out how in the heck to get them both over to the left-hand screen. Am I missing something horribly obvious?

VMware tools may be completely installed.I can drag & drop files from my Win7 host.
But when I press ctrl+alt+enter to make it fullscreen in VM,I get a half size taskbar.How to fix it?
Since I upgraded from F13 to F14, I no longer get thumbnails of windows when hovering the mouse above the taskbar entry. I have all the appropriate optionsjust no thumbnails.Anyone else experience this? I can't find any similar issues in this forum or Google.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOnce of the biggest issues I had with FC10's KDE desktop was its taskbar widget and how it worked. It did not group tasks, didn't stack vertically, etc. etc. I understand this was due to KDE 4.1 which was a or is considered a "broken" KDE release? I've read that many ppl say KDE 4.2 is much better in FC11. Many FC11 reviewers state they like its KDE version better than 4.1 shipped with FC10.
However, has the KDE taskbar widget specifically been replaced or upgraded? Anyway, I'm considering an upgrade, and I'm willing to do it JUST to get another taskbar in KDE... if the 4.2 one is an improvement. Fondest wish is for it to be exactly like the KDE 3.5 taskbar widget from FC6!
I have been searching and searching for the way to make the taskbar just display the applications that are currently open on the current desktop. It's maddening to click thinking you'll pull up the terminal that's hiding beneath the browser and be whisked away to a different desktop.I'm running KDE 4.4.3 and FC13. I know there's got to be a simple option to have the taskbar only show what's there...I've changed it before in other distros and just can't seem to find a clear, obvious option for that this time around.

The screen size defaulted to 1680 x 1240 mething like that.This was rather small for me so I went to the task bar and clicked on system.ound the app to change the resolution. I chose 1280 x 720. Now, I no longer have the task bar and the text is nearly unreadable.Without the task bar, I cannot find a way to go back to the original size. I also have not had any success finding any way to make the text look better. I tried changing the font and size but that did not have any beneficial affect. Can anyone tell me what will correct the situation?I found another post that mentioned Alt F2 and gnome-display-properties. That let me get back to nearly what I originally had; everything looks good at 1680 x 1050 but the fonts are not quite the same. However, I still have the need to reduce the resolution of the display and maintain readable text and the task bar.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am fairly new to linux but have been working with it for a good 3 months now, as usual linpus is giving me some hassle.I did the basic hack a while ago and everything was fine until the other day.I deleted firefox as it wasnt working properly and for some reason unknown to me firefox deleted some core pieces of info for the entire desktop....all i have is the bottom bar and the search bar...if i go through my files and run some xfce files; few of which will now load, i can get a basic desktop with some icons(file system, user files, SD card)but it only stays on for that load, if i start the laptop again its gone and i have to go through the whole process again.
everything runs fine just no desktop and it wont keep the simple desktop (if not better than original linpus desktop up) is there any code i can use in terminal to lock the desktop when i get it to the point i can get it to...?is there any code i can use to system restore to an earlier date, or similar?I have been thinking about downloading ubuntu and installing that as i have used that before and found it wonderful, problem being as its an acer onethere is no CD drive and now that everything is kaput it wont accept USB sticks either. know this can be done and i know i can find coding to get the usb drives to work again so no problem there, its just the whole desktop being shot is the issue reallyany help would be greatly appreciated ive been sifting through forums for 2 days now and i cant find any similar problem
During my two previous installation, I almost never try to include or exclude package during the process. I want to know if I only want to install XFCE as my only DE, how can i do it during the installation progress (I Know i can install both, or even with KDE, but I also know that i can do it later should I change my mind)?
Second question is, if I install only XFCE, what will I miss ?(no, not the gnome feature, but maybe fedora distro(gnome) specific tool or something). Last word, no I'm not asking what feature of gnome is absent in xfce nor which DE is better, so don't start it.
last night I updated F12 XFCE on my Acer Aspire One 8Gb SSD, there were about 140+ issues to update.
after reboot the dialog to select a user and login appeared, continuing nothing shows up -- no menu, no taskbar, no volumes, just the beautiful F12 background.
pressing ALT - F2 I am able to start commands, eg Thunar shows up displaying all volumes, files and even NFS remote drives. my conclusion is that everything works except the desktop...
how I can start the XFCE desktop environment so I can use the GUI?
I'm running Fedora 12 XFCE on an old Acer Aspire One netbook. During some wi-fi testing, I "by mistake" disabled wi-fi by using the physical wi-fi switch. Now the wi-fi can't be re-enabled using the switch (the switch does nothing).If I right click on the Network icon in the XFCE panel, the "Enable Wireless" is greyed out, so I cant enable it using the GUI?
