I just installed Fedora 13 x85_64 on Intel s45sf server board with hardware raid and 8Gb memory. After installation and reboot I got the message: Error Loading Operating System I tried installation with no raid I doesn't work.
View 1 RepliesInstalled 11.4 on a machine with two SATA drives which had previously been running Windows 2003. I deleted the Windows partitions and created a new partition scheme: Swap, root and one additional partition on the first disk, one large partition on the second disk. Install runs fine but upon reboot I get "Error loading operating system". Booting off a Windows floppy and running FDisk shows that the root partition is marked as active.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a fancy new Quad Core Xeon machine here that I'm trying to install F10 x64 on. The installation went fine. When it reboots the first time, though, I get the dreaded Error Loading OS.
So I dug up my bookmark of the awesome Grub HOWTO here and followed the steps to install Grub manually. Alas, I get the same result after installing it. Even tried doing a makeactive (hd0) just in case, but no luck.
I did more searching and searched for "raid install" but didn't find anything helpful. So here I am... hoping somebody has some insight.

I've tried three or four variations of the process and each time I see, "Error Loading Operating System."I've reloaded the live cd and examined /boot/grub/menu.lst. It appears to be correct. It seems like the initial GRub loader isn't found in the MBR.If I run grub-install, the graphical interface comes up then complains, "Because of partitioning, the boot loader cannot be installed properly."

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have installed openSuSE 11.4 32-bit on my PC. Installation went okay, but when I shut down the system and started later it does not load.
My computers have;
- Intel Pentium Dual Core processors
- Asus motherboards
- Onboard VGA, Sound, NW
- 2 GB DDR2 RAM
- 80 GB SATA HDD

What happens is, the first screen appear (where it instructs to press DEL to go to BIOS), then the system hangs us displaying "Error Loading Operating System". There nothing works, except the CTRL+ALT+DEL. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL, same cycle repeats.
I've been using Ubuntu 9.10 for a while now, and i've started to look at other distros of linux. I found PClinuxOS which seemed decent and decided to install it alongside my Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows Vista. The bootloader that came with PClinuxOS recognised my Vista OS, but not my Ubuntu.long story short, i recovered Ubuntu's GRUB becasue i had already edited it to my liking. GRUB found the PClinuxOS partition and added it to the menu. Vista and Ubuntu start fine, but when i try to select the PClinuxOS option, i get this message-type-thing:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just purchased an Acer Aspire 5050, and was trying to install Ubuntu on it for my mother. (No, I am not forcing it on her, she actually asked for it.) I burned a CD and put it in the drive, and it said Operating System not found. So I went into the BIOS and told it to boot nothing but the optical drive. Same error. I burned another disk with the same computer, and then another computer. Same error. (Hereafter referred to as "nothing")
So I went and purchased a 4GB flash drive from micro center. Converted my iso to img and DDed from my Mac, then set the BIOS to boot it. The BIOS recognizes the disk, but won't boot from it, giving the same error. So I thought: Fine, I guess I can't get _nix to boot, how about Windows 7? Put the disk in that I used to install on my laptop, genuine Windows 7 disk, nothing. I tried the Vista disk that came with the computer, also nothing.
Any ideas on how to install ANY operating system on this machine? I get absolutely no POST errors. I turned off Quiet Boot and looked, no errors there either. I would be fine installing any _nix based, it doesn't have to be an easy install. I can provide more information as needed, not a problem. I can't think of any more useful information at the moment.
I am a newby in linux. i wanted to install lampp (xampp) but it gaves me an error that the operating system doesn't support 32 bit. I am using at this moment Fedora 12 x86_64.
I looked in another thread and they sad that i need to run yum whatprovides missing_lib_name but it don't show anything is there another way to get 32 bit support in linux because i really need xampp.

I have installed Fedora 10 on a Dell M6400. It has 2 disks in a mirror raid. It came with Windows Vista, but I am not doing a dual boot setup. I have formattet the disk with this installation.I downloaded http://ftp.crc.dk/fedora/linux/relea...0-i386-DVD.iso, burned the DVD and did the install check. It passed the check.The installation went fine, but after the first reboot I am getting "Missing operating system".
I have no idea where to begin... Could the installation media be faulty after all? I there anyway to get passed this, without reinstalling? I know this may have something to do with the boot loader, but I don't know anything about it.I have installed Fedora 4,5,6,8,9 and this never happened to me before, but then again, I did all these installations on my old Dell Latitude.... Could this have something to do with the new hardware?
I am unable to Install Fedora10 in my system as one of the multiple operating systems and it gets hanged after probing for Hardware devices and so ...I get fedora trademark sought of symbol and even after waiting any amount of time it doesnt go further..neither the keyboard works nor the mouse pointer moves... Initially after booting with the media it doesnt even prompt me to press any key to boot from CD or Dvd or I get any screen to select the option for the mode of installation like text based installation or graphical installation..it hardly shows me this screen for even a fraction of second as well...

when I click on install fedora I am taken to the fedora splash screen and nothing goes ahead... I tried in rescue mode as well... In rescue mode it asks me for language selection...keyboard layout... later it doesnt go ahead as well... I have checked the installation media and it confirmed that the installation media is good... I use Redhat 4.1 version and It works fine except for the message drivers/usb/hid.c core message received at :75 while trying to restart shutdown or access a virtual console... Along with Redhat and while trying to install fedora I have windows server 2008,Windows vista on that harddisk...
I just installed Ubuntu Lucid yesterday, and I'm dual-booting with Windows 7. (They're on separate physical drives if that's relevant.) I've discovered that whenever I restart the computer, it doesn't matter if it's from Windows or Ubuntu or just hitting the reset button, it hangs at "Loading Operating System." If I start it cold, though, it usually works fine. I tried Googling but I couldn't seem to find anybody else with this problem. I'm guessing it's a GRUB problem? Does anybody know how to fix it?

However, this is my first HTPC build and my first KnoppMyth install, and I've probably done something foolish.
This was an attempt at a fresh KnoppMyth 5.5 install on a virgin system. Hardware details:

Basically, I just wish I had never bothered with KM5.5 and I want a do-over to go back to the beginning and put the LinHES 6.03 CD in and just do the installation. Since I can't do this, I'd like to at least be able to wipe everything I did and start fresh. Recall that I couldn't boot from CDROM even before I made the daft remove of LILO. The only time I successfully booted from CD was the very first time I turned on the machine to install KM5.5
I am trying to install debian 6.0.1a in an old COMPAQ 1255 (amd-k6, 160 MB ram, 4.3 Gbyte AT33.33 MB/s Cyl 6568 Heads 6 bytes per sector 512 HardDisk). I am using the netinstall CD_ROM , I just want the base system (the last option in the list you are presented) I got installed debian 5.0.8 , base package plus fluxbox plus a light browser plus a light pdfviewer, and I got really surprised what an useful system I got from such and old hardware.
With 6.0.1a everything goes well during the install process, the net is recognized, also the disk, formatting an partitions are created, apt-get configured, repositories contacted, etc. I only select base system (may be I am confused with the name, it is the last option in the list), and I select the install using the whole hard disk (i also tryed the install using a separated home partition but I had the same problem). I am installing the system in spanish, using latinamerican keyboard layout.
the installer then asks to take away the CD-ROM, I do, I reboot and then I got "GRUB Read Error Operating System not found". Just before the message, the machine search the floppy. If I press a key, I got the same behaviour, noise in the floppy, error message.
I can boot the CD_ROM in rescue mode, and I can select /dev/hda1 and get a console. i can do ls and cd and navigate the tree. It looks like everything is there, the /etc, the /home, all of the directories. if I do fdisk /dev/hda i got a warning because dos compatible mode is deprecated with option p of fdisk i got:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed 10.04 (clean install) on a 250G drive (partitioned to 107G for the system files). It was working fine, until I wanted to install Window$ for the use of Adobe stuff. I popped the Windows XP disc in, it loaded its files, then I tried to choose a partition for installation. There was an error saying that I can't do that, and needed to delete a partition blah blah. I thought it was too much trouble, so I quit and just wanted to use my 10.04. Booted, and it says "Error booting operating system" I WAS SHOCKED.
I tried to install grub (but don't need that right? I DO NOT want to dual boot now), but the usual method ( the sudo grub; root (hd0.0)...) doesn't work ,because something like "stage1" is missing. I tried many methods by still the same error. The reason I do not want a clean install is that I did many fixes on my 10.04 so that it would work with my EeePC 1001pxd, and I do not want to go through that again. I will be checking my email frequently on other computers if I have a chance.
I just upgraded to F15 and it went well. But at the next and each subsequent cold boot the BIOS reports "Your system last boot fail or post interrupted Please enter setup to load default and reboot". The board is an asus P5N-D. I press F1 to blow past the error and all is well until the next cold boot. Restarts are fine, no errors at all.

The problem is that the company I work for, not a science company, is VERY windows-centric, so nearly everything I do is in windows. The IT people here periodically reboot the computers which creates a problem for me since I often work remotely and this results in my computer booting into Linux.

I installing Fedora 12. I did ALL the same as in the installation guide, GRUB installed into MBR. And after installation and rebooting - nothing happens, after BIOS messages there is nothing - computer hangs. GRUB seems to be not installedI have 2 hard disks. At first I tried to install on the 2-nd drive(it is slave). Afterward I detach one disk and try with only one hard disk(it is master). Nothing changes - computer hangs.

I've done everything I could. Reinstall grub and I let it install fine and no errors, but does not booting, among the iso "boot-repair-disk-32bit.iso" and repair, all good, but not booting.
The system has a Raid 5 disks with one volume and two partitions, including a livecd ubuntu, and I see perfectly partitions have no problems, checked. I go with the "Super Grub Disk" (iso) and let me enter the system out there, but they do not enter the iso, not start me. All isos the'm putting on a flash memory to boot.
the thing that tends to draw out their frustrations the most are the error messages.
Things like "x.x not found, such and such can't continue" or "Unable to locate x.x", etc.
Well, of those people as I described above, a lot of them are fiercely independent people and would fix their own problems had they any idea what they were.
So, I had a thought that adding google or LQ.o search terms to the error messages, along with a link to the search feature, would be somewhat beneficial.
Perhaps with messages regarding missing files, then provide a link and message "To correct this issue, copy filename and submit it here -> url and download the package"
So I was wondering where I could find lots and lots of error message code.
I installed Fedora 13 to sdb7 and installed Grub to root all went well on install. But when I reboot it stops at Loading Partition.

How safe is it to use this installation option without partitioning and backup-ing my windows files? Does this option make an automatic partition? Is it possible to loose existing windows files? Currently I am using Windows Vista. I know that I can use WindowsInstaller, but I 'd like to avoid it.
