OpenSUSE Install :: Error Loading Operating System?

Apr 24, 2010

I'm trying to install 11.2 Gnome from the live cd on an HP n410c laptop. The install seems to go smoothly until I'm told I must reboot without the cd. I've tried three or four variations of the process and each time I see, "Error Loading Operating System."I've reloaded the live cd and examined /boot/grub/menu.lst. It appears to be correct. It seems like the initial GRub loader isn't found in the MBR.If I run grub-install, the graphical interface comes up then complains, "Because of partitioning, the boot loader cannot be installed properly."

OpenSUSE Install :: Error Loading Operating System On First Reboot?

Jun 29, 2011

Installed 11.4 on a machine with two SATA drives which had previously been running Windows 2003. I deleted the Windows partitions and created a new partition scheme: Swap, root and one additional partition on the first disk, one large partition on the second disk. Install runs fine but upon reboot I get "Error loading operating system". Booting off a Windows floppy and running FDisk shows that the root partition is marked as active.

OpenSUSE Install :: Error Loading Operating System (Live CD Was Totally Fine)?

May 17, 2011

This is a IBM T23 (10 years old)pentium3 1.1ghz640mb ram28gb hdd (contianing several bad sectors)intel graphicseverything works out of box (graphics, wireless, etc) on a live cdhowever after installation, upon boot, it displays "Error loading operating system" right after BIOS and before even goes into GRUB and is stuck there.Enter live cd, and choosing boot from harddrive does not solve the problem.Already did the CD check, which shows no problemdid a bit googlingturned out this could be an issue with a dying harddriveand sadly, it is the case, the harddrive on this 10 year old laptop is indeed dying D:However, installing windows xp posed no problem... (altho tons of driver issue, but anyways...)I have a few solutions in mind1). just use a usb stick as the replacement for harddrive2). get a new harddrive (not even sure what to get for this laptop D: )3). find a magical way to fix it :SWould definitely be glad to know a way to load this system on this existing harddrive for nowI was told earlier that there are ways to tell the system to avoid mapping the bad sectors.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.4 Boot Fail After Install "Error Loading Operating System"?

Jul 13, 2011

I have installed openSuSE 11.4 32-bit on my PC. Installation went okay, but when I shut down the system and started later it does not load.

My computers have;

- Onboard VGA, Sound, NW
- 2 GB DDR2 RAM
- 80 GB SATA HDD
code....

What happens is, the first screen appear (where it instructs to press DEL to go to BIOS), then the system hangs us displaying "Error Loading Operating System". There nothing works, except the CTRL+ALT+DEL. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL, same cycle repeats.

Fedora Installation :: F10 + RAID 1 / Error Loading Operating System?

Jan 13, 2009

I have a fancy new Quad Core Xeon machine here that I'm trying to install F10 x64 on. The installation went fine. When it reboots the first time, though, I get the dreaded Error Loading OS.

So I dug up my bookmark of the awesome Grub HOWTO here and followed the steps to install Grub manually. Alas, I get the same result after installing it. Even tried doing a makeactive (hd0) just in case, but no luck.

I did more searching and searched for "raid install" but didn't find anything helpful. So here I am... hoping somebody has some insight.

OpenSUSE Install :: Error No Operating System?

Sep 8, 2010

Several months ago I installed Suse on my box...setup a dual boot with Windows XP. By default it booted into Suse. The problem is that the company I work for, not a science company, is VERY windows-centric, so nearly everything I do is in windows. The IT people here periodically reboot the computers which creates a problem for me since I often work remotely and this results in my computer booting into Linux.

So, to fix the problem I went into Suse, opened Yast, and changed the default boot to windows, and restarted. Now it won't boot into anything and not even the boot menu comes up.I get the following message:Error No operating systemIntel(R) Boot Agent GE v1.3.22Copyright (C) 1997-2008, Intel CorporationCLIENT MAC ADDR: 00 1C C0 E2 61 31 GUID: CAB279BC 5BF7 11DE 8A18 0007E9BECBF3PXE-E53: No boot filename receivedPXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.Boot FailurePress any key to continueIf I push any key, the same error repeats. Really, I truly couldn't care less about the stuff I have on the Linux partition; however, the Windows partition has TONS of data and programs I've written that would be an enormous loss.

Ubuntu Installation :: "Error Loading Operating System"?

Feb 3, 2010

I'm new to both Ubuntu and this forum, so please try to bear with me.I have a 500GB HDD with these partitions Screenshot.pngI'm currently using the live CD to boot because when I try to boot to this HDD it simply comes up with the error "Error loading operating system". It was working fine until I started reformatting a different drive with XP on it; since then it has had the error. As far as I know I need to reconfigure GRUB to boot to the correct partition, but I do not know how to do this.I know that there are already threads about booting/GRUB problems. I have looked at a lot of them but because no one has exactly the same problem as me I do not know what to do.

Ubuntu :: GRUB2 Not Loading New Operating System (PClinuxOS)?

Aug 6, 2010

I've been using Ubuntu 9.10 for a while now, and i've started to look at other distros of linux. I found PClinuxOS which seemed decent and decided to install it alongside my Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows Vista. The bootloader that came with PClinuxOS recognised my Vista OS, but not my Ubuntu.long story short, i recovered Ubuntu's GRUB becasue i had already edited it to my liking. GRUB found the PClinuxOS partition and added it to the menu. Vista and Ubuntu start fine, but when i try to select the PClinuxOS option, i get this message-type-thing:

[linux-bzImage, setup=0x3a00, size=0x1f9110]vga=788 is deprecated. useset gfxpayload=800x600x16, 800x600 before linux command insteaderror: no such partitionI don't really know, but it almost sounds like GRUB is trying to find the linux kernel, but it cannot connect to the partition for some reason. I have been extremely pleased with Ubuntu, so I really don't need another distro, but I'd like to know how to fix this

Ubuntu :: Computer Hangs At "Loading Operating System" / Solve This?

Aug 9, 2010

I just installed Ubuntu Lucid yesterday, and I'm dual-booting with Windows 7. (They're on separate physical drives if that's relevant.) I've discovered that whenever I restart the computer, it doesn't matter if it's from Windows or Ubuntu or just hitting the reset button, it hangs at "Loading Operating System." If I start it cold, though, it usually works fine. I tried Googling but I couldn't seem to find anybody else with this problem. I'm guessing it's a GRUB problem? Does anybody know how to fix it?

General :: GA-880GMA-UD2H Hangs On "Loading Operating System" After Removing LILO From MBR

Aug 2, 2010

I just joined the forum today. I'm not a linux beginner per se (about 4 years experience, now running Ubuntu Lucid on my laptop and windoze-free) and I built the desktop PC I'm typing this on six years ago. However, this is my first HTPC build and my first KnoppMyth install, and I've probably done something foolish.

This was an attempt at a fresh KnoppMyth 5.5 install on a virgin system. Hardware details:

MB: GIGABYTE|GA-880GMA-UD2H R
CPU: AMD|PH II X4 925 AM3 RT
RAM: 2Gx2|GSKILL F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH
HD: 1T|WD 7K 64M SATAIII WD1002FAEX - OEM
CD: BLU-RAY BURNER LG | WH10LS30 OEM - OEM

[Code]..

Basically, I just wish I had never bothered with KM5.5 and I want a do-over to go back to the beginning and put the LinHES 6.03 CD in and just do the installation. Since I can't do this, I'd like to at least be able to wipe everything I did and start fresh. Recall that I couldn't boot from CDROM even before I made the daft remove of LILO. The only time I successfully booted from CD was the very first time I turned on the machine to install KM5.5

OpenSUSE Install :: Can't Boot From USB Drive - "Missing Operating System"

Jun 7, 2011

I'm trying to install OpenSUSE on an external usb drive but when I boot from USB, all I get is a message saying "Missing Operating System". I've tried different ways of partitioning the drive either by letting OpenSUSE do it automatically or doing it myself. It's just a basic partitioning scheme, with swap on one partition sdb2 and the rest on root sdb1 .

I made sure to have GRUB be installed on the root partition of sdb (usb drive) instead of in the MBR (I've installed Fedora and Ubuntu on usb drives this way).

The system has a Raid 5 disks with one volume and two partitions, including a livecd ubuntu, and I see perfectly partitions have no problems, checked. I go with the "Super Grub Disk" (iso) and let me enter the system out there, but they do not enter the iso, not start me. All isos the'm putting on a flash memory to boot.

General :: Centralized Location For Operating System Error Messages?

Jul 20, 2010

the thing that tends to draw out their frustrations the most are the error messages.

Things like "x.x not found, such and such can't continue" or "Unable to locate x.x", etc.

Well, of those people as I described above, a lot of them are fiercely independent people and would fix their own problems had they any idea what they were.

So, I had a thought that adding google or LQ.o search terms to the error messages, along with a link to the search feature, would be somewhat beneficial.

Perhaps with messages regarding missing files, then provide a link and message "To correct this issue, copy filename and submit it here -> url and download the package"

So I was wondering where I could find lots and lots of error message code.

Ubuntu Installation :: Acer Aspire 5050 Operating System Not Found Error?

Jan 7, 2010

I just purchased an Acer Aspire 5050, and was trying to install Ubuntu on it for my mother. (No, I am not forcing it on her, she actually asked for it.) I burned a CD and put it in the drive, and it said Operating System not found. So I went into the BIOS and told it to boot nothing but the optical drive. Same error. I burned another disk with the same computer, and then another computer. Same error. (Hereafter referred to as "nothing")

So I went and purchased a 4GB flash drive from micro center. Converted my iso to img and DDed from my Mac, then set the BIOS to boot it. The BIOS recognizes the disk, but won't boot from it, giving the same error. So I thought: Fine, I guess I can't get _nix to boot, how about Windows 7? Put the disk in that I used to install on my laptop, genuine Windows 7 disk, nothing. I tried the Vista disk that came with the computer, also nothing.

Any ideas on how to install ANY operating system on this machine? I get absolutely no POST errors. I turned off Quiet Boot and looked, no errors there either. I would be fine installing any _nix based, it doesn't have to be an easy install. I can provide more information as needed, not a problem. I can't think of any more useful information at the moment.
