Apr 22, 2009there is no option that static ip cannot be configured during fedora 10 installation. I may be wrong, as i am now to fedora.

Feb 16, 2009I'm getting ready to install F10 x64 on a Supermicro 7045A-3B on an SAS; I would like to partition the drives free space; I have an OS (Windows 2003 Server R2 x64; sorry still have a few apps that need it; can't wait for the day I can see the end of MS on my computers) on it and I don't want to hose it.
Motherboard: X7DA3
16 GB RAM
Adaptec AIC-9410 SAS Controller (Dual 136 GB Seagate SAS drives in RAID 0)
I also have 1 SATA Drive bay; maybe I could install Windoze on it; but I still need to know how to install F10 on an SAS. So far my stumbling block has been when I click on advanced storage device; when it ask for Network configuration I add my Static IP; it fails; I note that it does this on all installs of F10 on other computers as well; but installed with no problem; problem here seems to get past that after hitting cancel; going back I get to Add iSCSI; I have no idea what information to put in blocks: Target IP Address, iSCSI Initiator Name, CHAP User name, password and reverse info for them. I do admit how that I don't think I need to add an iSCSI device; I just don't see the SAS as an option and don't know how to add it.

Jul 19, 2010I moved to static Ip method for my laptop. I edited the interfaces file and it seems to work since I am writing this message from that laptop, but I have a new problem with my Debian. The mounts are not mounted during the startup anymore. Before I was using the network manager method and the nerwork mounts were all fine. Now with this method, they are not mounted and I need to mount them by firing "sudo mount -a" manually.

Debian Configuration :: Static IP Switching Back To DHCP
Jul 15, 2010I'm new to the forum and actually to Debian as well. Have been running Ubuntu for the past few years. Just setup a small Dell laptop to use as a Squeezebox and Print server. It's been up 6 days without a hitch as far as serving music to the squeezebox and printing. The problem is that it loses it's static IP, so as long as I look it up and change the radio Squeezebox and printer definitions around on the clients everything keeps working.
Does anyone have any ideas?If the connection drops for some reason and the system has to re-initialize the connection, shouldn't it use the /etc/network/interfaces file and get back to the static IP that it is configured for?If anyone has any ideas of why this could be happening or have a solution, I would really appreciate the help.

Apr 3, 2011The wireless network on my laptop is configured with a static IP. (not using nm). When I take the laptop out of the range of my wireless router the essid is becoming off/any therefore when I'm back in range the connection is not reestablished and to re-enable the connection I gotta do "iwconfig wlan0 essid <essid name>" otherwise there is no connection. Make sure that essid stays configured unless I manually want to change it?

Dec 7, 2015I use a static compiled kernel and a fully encrypted disk apart from a boot partition. I have recompiled and installed kernels many times. When I tried with the latest kernel from Testing, 4.2.6, the system will not boot. Not only that but the previous kernel now does not boot. However, a stock modular kernel does boot. The static kernel hangs at:

CentOS 5 Networking :: Multiple Static ISP IP Addresses / Servers Configuration
Mar 31, 2011I have a CentOS5 server with dual ethernet adapters + Webmin installed as my Router / Firewall / DHCP server working successfully with 1 static IP from my ISP. I also have 7 additional static IP addresses from my ISP needing to configure to individual servers inside my network. I have configured the additional virtual interfaces, but am lost on how to route data specifically from additional ISP address to specific internal network address.
Below is my desired configuration.

Debian Configuration :: Udev Static Device Change From Wheezy To Jessie
Sep 9, 2015I am using a 3rd party kernel driver that does not support udev properly. When I was using wheezy I placed the required device files in /lib/udev/devices.
The udev in jessie does not appear to support this. Is there any way to have udev create these device files or will I have to create then using a script at boot-up?
Debian Configuration :: VirtualBox: Host-only Networking: Static IP Guest Addresses?
Jun 6, 2011Debian Testing host, Winduhs XP guest. Winduhs is not allowed to directly access The Internets, and I am not setting up bridging as that makes it possible for the guest to mount layer 2 attacks on the LAN. I need for the guest to tunnel through the host without being able to see anything on the host, so it can then get access to The Internets, while being protected by iptables (Shorewall).
Used to be with VMware I had host-only set and the guest in a different class c (192.168.2.1) from the host (192.168.1.1) I turned on ipforwarding, set Shorewall rules, and it all worked. Now I have everything set with VirtualBox, and it does not work. Guest can ping its interface but not host. Host can ping vboxnet0. Host is supposed to masquerade guest's 192.168.2.1 through to the default out at 192.168.1.1, but it's not. I think a clue is in routing, but I don't know what's wrong.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Rt61 PCI Wireless: Freeze Upon Shutdown With Static IP Configuration
Jun 24, 2009I have one desktop PC I'd like to use as a jukebox. It's installed in the basement as a black box, with only SSH access, and it has got a minimal CentOS 5.3 install with MPD and NCMPC. It's connected to the hi-fi in the basement, so I can stream music to it when I'm downstairs. Since I didn't want to use cables everywhere, I bought a PCI wireless card, with a RT2561 chip.
Until recently this card worked OK with Linux. Recent kernel version even have out-of-the-box support for it, except of course you still have to download the firmware from the Ralinktech website.
I gave the thing a static IP configuration by editing /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0, interface went up fine, I can ping the machine and SSH into it OK. Now the only problem is, when I do a shutdown -h now, the machine "hangs" while trying to bring wlan0 down. (In case you wonder: I temporarily attached a monitor to it, since wanting to know what goes on while shutting down in an SSH session is a chicken-and-egg situation :)). I actually have to hard-reboot it (by pressing RESET).

Jan 17, 2009I downloaded from [URL] files FC-6-i386-disc1.iso through FC-6-i386-disc5.iso from windows vista with get right. I checked the files with sha1sum.exe and the numbers are correct. I burned the cd's with roxio creator de. Then I go to the other computer and start the installation and at the beginning there is an option to test the cd's before installation proceeds. All cd's tests fail. So I would like to be sure: Have I been buying bad cd's? Note: I have tried 15 cd's, all failed.

Mar 11, 2009Installed fc8 about a year ago. Had to use text mode because of nvidia video card, but got everything working fine. Dual boot with separate physical drives. (XP on 250G, sda; fc8 on 80 G, sdb). Now trying to replace fc8 with fc10 and hope it will work just as good (still have to use text installation) . However, I have some specific questions as I go:
#1. When I try to use the upgrade existing system option, I get an error that says: "Error mounting device / dev/VolGroup001/.Log Vol100 as /: mount: Special device /dev/ dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 does not exist." Does this mean I need to do a fresh install of fc10, instead of upgrade?
#2 (Backed up and started fresh install). Made the selection to only re-partition and use the 80G (sdb) drive. (leaving the 250G, sda disk alone)..However, the partition table that produces shows values for the sda (250G)disk partitions that will be somewhat different (maybe not significantly) than those I observed in XP's disk manager tool. (For instance Windows says my ntfs partition is 206GB, yet the partition table in the fc10 installer (text mode) says ntfs partition will be 211GB). Is this normal? A 5GB difference? (This is where I aborted the install).
#3 I just want to replace fc8 with fc10, and have it work just like before. One more thing: If I go ahead with fresh installation of fc10 will it give me the option of leaving Grub as it is? (on sdb1 and chainload to XP?) Am hooked on Fedora, but need my 250G drive just as it is.
Fedora Installation :: 12 - Get The BIOS To Have A USB Option?
Mar 31, 2010I'm completely new to Fedora, though not to Linux (I'm switching from Ubuntu 9.10, now) and am having a few problems getting it installed. I followed the installation instructions, torrented the i386 DVD image, and put it on a 4gb USB drive using UNetbootin.
This is where my problems started. I restarted the computer, figured out which F key I needed to press to select the boot source, and then there wasn't a USB boot option. I've looked all over the place (using Google) and can't find out how to get the BIOS to have a USB option there-- I'm using a Toshiba Satellite A10, and that doesn't come with the USB boot option.
Now I'm trying to either figure out how to add the USB boot option or find another way to install. Burning a DVD (or CDs) doesn't work, as I don't have the resources to do so. I've seen somewhere that there's a way to install from a hard drive partition, but no instructions on how to do so (if someone could point me to a way to do that, it seems to be my best option right now-- if it even exists).
Fedora Installation :: No Upgrade Option Shown During F10?
Jun 8, 2009I'm trying to upgrade my current fedora 8 box to fedora 10. I downloaded the cd images and burned from the fedora website. After I booted my laptop using the fedora installation cd, the anaconda program started and went immediately to the keyboard selection, language selection, etc. but no upgrade option screen was shown at all until the point that I have to choose my partitions where it was obvious that a fresh installation was being done.
Using crtl+f2 I checked the /tmp/anaconda.log file, whoch has the warning: "step install type does not exist". At this point I do not know exactly what is going on.
Fedora Installation :: Partitioning Wizard Has No Option For XFS
Oct 12, 2009I need to make a fresh new installation of KDE Fedora 11 where some partitions are formatted using XFS. The installer's partitioning wizard has no option for XFS. I've been able to load the XFS module as root (modprobe xfs) but it looks like the XFS tools are completely missing.
Two of these partitions are / and /home so it'd be quite hard to do the "switch" after the installation.
I have read the FAQs at [URL] as well as the XFS thing by Colin Charles. But as I am new to Fedora I don't understand the sentence "At the installer prompt, type this ...". If the installed is the bootloader, then adding the xfs in the end of the boot line won't help. If the installer is the iconized program I see on the desktop after the end of the boot, the it's name is "liveinst" and adding the xfs option won't help.

My Ubuntu partition is /dev/sda8 and my Fedora partition is /dev/sda6. Grub2 seems to be more complicate than grub1.
