Debian Configuration :: Starting/Stopping A XEN VM Kills Network For 30 Seconds

Jul 13, 2010

I'm having trouble working with Xen on debian, I have many centos servers running Xen and have no problems. Everytime I start or stop a XEN vm it kills networking on the host OS for about 30 seconds. It doesn't respond to pings or anything, then it returns and everything works. I have asked about this issue in #xen on freenode.

Debian Configuration :: Static IP And Network Mounts

Jul 19, 2010

I moved to static Ip method for my laptop. I edited the interfaces file and it seems to work since I am writing this message from that laptop, but I have a new problem with my Debian. The mounts are not mounted during the startup anymore. Before I was using the network manager method and the nerwork mounts were all fine. Now with this method, they are not mounted and I need to mount them by firing "sudo mount -a" manually.

Debian Configuration :: Static IP Switching Back To DHCP

Jul 15, 2010

I'm new to the forum and actually to Debian as well. Have been running Ubuntu for the past few years. Just setup a small Dell laptop to use as a Squeezebox and Print server. It's been up 6 days without a hitch as far as serving music to the squeezebox and printing. The problem is that it loses it's static IP, so as long as I look it up and change the radio Squeezebox and printer definitions around on the clients everything keeps working.

Does anyone have any ideas? If the connection drops for some reason and the system has to re-initialize the connection, shouldn't it use the /etc/network/interfaces file and get back to the static IP that it is configured for?If anyone has any ideas of why this could be happening or have a solution, I would really appreciate the help.

Debian Configuration :: Boot Hangs With 4.2.6 Static Kernel And Encrypted LVM

Dec 7, 2015

I use a static compiled kernel and a fully encrypted disk apart from a boot partition. I have recompiled and installed kernels many times. When I tried with the latest kernel from Testing, 4.2.6, the system will not boot. Not only that but the previous kernel now does not boot. However, a stock modular kernel does boot. The static kernel hangs at:

Code: Select allVolume group "dk" not found
Cannot process volume group dk
/run/lvm/lvmetad.socket: connect failed: No such file or directory
WARNING: Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to internal scanning.
Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while...
/run/lvm/lvmetad.socket: connect failed: No such file or directory

[Code] ....

And after giving the password the boot continues successfully. How to diagnose it further?

Debian Configuration :: VirtualBox: Host-only Networking: Static IP Guest Addresses?

Jun 6, 2011

Debian Testing host, Winduhs XP guest. Winduhs is not allowed to directly access The Internets, and I am not setting up bridging as that makes it possible for the guest to mount layer 2 attacks on the LAN. I need for the guest to tunnel through the host without being able to see anything on the host, so it can then get access to The Internets, while being protected by iptables (Shorewall).

Used to be with VMware I had host-only set and the guest in a different class c (192.168.2.1) from the host (192.168.1.1) I turned on ipforwarding, set Shorewall rules, and it all worked. Now I have everything set with VirtualBox, and it does not work. Guest can ping its interface but not host. Host can ping vboxnet0. Host is supposed to masquerade guest's 192.168.2.1 through to the default out at 192.168.1.1, but it's not. I think a clue is in routing, but I don't know what's wrong.

Debian Hardware :: Playing A52 Audio Kills All Sound After Few Minutes

Mar 28, 2016

Whenever I try to play AC3 audio, after a few minutes, the audio dies and never recovers. This doesn't occur with mp3's / etc, although once the audio dies because of AC3, it's gone for good. So this is probably related to surround sound(?).

After I lose audio, speaker-test produces

Code: Select allWrite error: -5,Input/output error
xrun_recovery failed: -5,Input/output error
Transfer failed: Input/output error

K-Mixer won't even open afterwards. I flipped from GNOME to KDE because of this problem (PulseAudio freezed the system entirely).

Additional info:

Code: Select allAudio device: Creative Labs EMU20k2 [X-Fi Titanium Series] (rev 04)
Output device: IEC958 Non-audio output

CentOS 5 Networking :: Rt61 PCI Wireless: Freeze Upon Shutdown With Static IP Configuration

Jun 24, 2009

I have one desktop PC I'd like to use as a jukebox. It's installed in the basement as a black box, with only SSH access, and it has got a minimal CentOS 5.3 install with MPD and NCMPC. It's connected to the hi-fi in the basement, so I can stream music to it when I'm downstairs. Since I didn't want to use cables everywhere, I bought a PCI wireless card, with a RT2561 chip.

Until recently this card worked OK with Linux. Recent kernel version even have out-of-the-box support for it, except of course you still have to download the firmware from the Ralinktech website.

I gave the thing a static IP configuration by editing /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0, interface went up fine, I can ping the machine and SSH into it OK. Now the only problem is, when I do a shutdown -h now, the machine "hangs" while trying to bring wlan0 down. (In case you wonder: I temporarily attached a monitor to it, since wanting to know what goes on while shutting down in an SSH session is a chicken-and-egg situation :)). I actually have to hard-reboot it (by pressing RESET).

Ubuntu Servers :: FTP And Apache Eventually Refused?

Mar 2, 2011

I installed Ubuntu Server 10.04 on a dell inspiron, twice just to make sure I didn't mess something up. Apache and SSH work fine post boot. Eventually, just inexplicably, it stops working. SSH is refused and Apache doesn't seem to be running, or it is and it's blocked. What really gets me is that I installed ssh on many many other machines on the same network, even the same ip range and they work fine. They never eventually refuse access for no reason. I checked the startup on the machine and ssh / apache do start at boot... so I'm not crazy there. It does have a static IP but so do many other machines... so I can't believe it's the router / firewall. Especially when I can connect at some point, then it just decides to stop

Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Keeps Stalling Then Eventually Just Disconnects

Mar 13, 2010

I just installed Ubuntu this morning and don't have much time to detail my problem before my internet goes out again. I am currently running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala?). I just got this laptop earlier this week with windows 7 and decided to put ubuntu on it via Wubi. Anyhoo, I login and then enter my wifi password and eveythings fine. I can surf the internet for a bit and everythings fine. but after a while, the wireless indicator on the keyboard begins to flicker on and off (between a connection and no connection) then starts to stall. The first thing I did was install google chrome (always the first thing to do) and I accidentally downloaded the wrong version A-OK. After I saw I downloaded the wrong version, I downloaded the correct, 32-bit version and installed it. During the download it said I had a 750kBs speed, but took much longer to download than had it been downloaded at a consistent 750kBs speed. I then tried to use update synaptic and it began to download reload all 44 packages and stalled around 38 or so. My internet then disconnected (wouldn't reconnect) and the download failed. I went back into windows uninstalled Ubuntu and then reinstalled it. After going through the first few steps again I began to update via update manager and surfed the web. After a few minutes of surfing the indicator began to flicker than just went off. I then connected to my neighbors internet, continued surfing and then the internet just crashed. I've found that when its just lightweight surfing, everythings okay, but during a download or any 2.0 surfing, then things start to get funky.
