Our network uses static ip's and I cannot get them to work with Debian live. In fact, when I reboot, it always goes back to "roaming". What am I doing wrong here?

Debian :: Booting From A Live USB - Screens Turn To Garbled Static And It Just Hangs There

Aug 2, 2015

I am trying to make a live usb drive with persistents and so far I have used win32DiskImager to write the debian-live-8.1.0-i386-gnome-desktop image to a usb drive. (im using a windows machine to get this set up) and it all went fine. The problem shows itself when i boot from the drive however. it boots fine and i select the live option when prompted. then i get the debian loading screen and once it finishes loading both my screens turn to garbled static and it just hangs there.

Debian Configuration :: Static IP And Network Mounts

Jul 19, 2010

I moved to static Ip method for my laptop. I edited the interfaces file and it seems to work since I am writing this message from that laptop, but I have a new problem with my Debian. The mounts are not mounted during the startup anymore. Before I was using the network manager method and the nerwork mounts were all fine. Now with this method, they are not mounted and I need to mount them by firing "sudo mount -a" manually.

Debian Configuration :: Static IP Switching Back To DHCP

Jul 15, 2010

I'm new to the forum and actually to Debian as well. Have been running Ubuntu for the past few years. Just setup a small Dell laptop to use as a Squeezebox and Print server. It's been up 6 days without a hitch as far as serving music to the squeezebox and printing. The problem is that it loses it's static IP, so as long as I look it up and change the radio Squeezebox and printer definitions around on the clients everything keeps working.

Does anyone have any ideas? If the connection drops for some reason and the system has to re-initialize the connection, shouldn't it use the /etc/network/interfaces file and get back to the static IP that it is configured for?If anyone has any ideas of why this could be happening or have a solution, I would really appreciate the help.

Debian Configuration :: Boot Hangs With 4.2.6 Static Kernel And Encrypted LVM

Dec 7, 2015

I use a static compiled kernel and a fully encrypted disk apart from a boot partition. I have recompiled and installed kernels many times. When I tried with the latest kernel from Testing, 4.2.6, the system will not boot. Not only that but the previous kernel now does not boot. However, a stock modular kernel does boot. The static kernel hangs at:

Code: Select allVolume group "dk" not found
Cannot process volume group dk
/run/lvm/lvmetad.socket: connect failed: No such file or directory
WARNING: Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to internal scanning.
Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while...
/run/lvm/lvmetad.socket: connect failed: No such file or directory

[Code] ....

And after giving the password the boot continues successfully. How to diagnose it further?

The udev in jessie does not appear to support this. Is there any way to have udev create these device files or will I have to create then using a script at boot-up?

Debian Configuration :: VirtualBox: Host-only Networking: Static IP Guest Addresses?

Jun 6, 2011

Debian Testing host, Winduhs XP guest. Winduhs is not allowed to directly access The Internets, and I am not setting up bridging as that makes it possible for the guest to mount layer 2 attacks on the LAN. I need for the guest to tunnel through the host without being able to see anything on the host, so it can then get access to The Internets, while being protected by iptables (Shorewall).

Used to be with VMware I had host-only set and the guest in a different class c (192.168.2.1) from the host (192.168.1.1) I turned on ipforwarding, set Shorewall rules, and it all worked. Now I have everything set with VirtualBox, and it does not work. Guest can ping its interface but not host. Host can ping vboxnet0. Host is supposed to masquerade guest's 192.168.2.1 through to the default out at 192.168.1.1, but it's not. I think a clue is in routing, but I don't know what's wrong.

Debian Configuration :: Cannot Boot 8.0 Live USB From UEFI

Jun 18, 2015

On a new Lenovo Thinkpad T450s, I encounter the following issue: The USB drive containing live CD image ("burned" to the USB using mkusb tool --> which in turn uses dd) cannot be booted from the UEFI boot loader. I have to reconfigure the hardware (BIOS) setup to support both UEFI & legacy system, and with first boot priority given to legacy (BIOS-style) booting. But if I do this, I don't see the UEFI system in the /sys/firmware/uefi directory. I am using the 64-bit live CD image (debian-live-8.0.0-amd64-xfce-desktop.iso).

This is my goal: to boot the live USB from UEFI, so that I can install it in a form that is UEFI-bootable.

Debian Configuration :: Creating A Custom Live CD

Feb 24, 2016

I'd like to create my own custom Debian live CD — the idea being to have my own rescue CD with my favorite Debian tools installed. I read about bootcd and was going to give that a try, after creating the ideal system in a qemu virtual machine.

How much exactly can you install on a system so that bootcd can still fit it on a CD? I'm presuming there is some kind of compression involved. When I tried to create my VM, I coudln't get Jessie + LXDE to install onto a 2GB virtual drive (net install) so naturally I'm wondering what I'm going to be able to put on a 700MB CD.

Debian Configuration :: Using Live LXDE Wireless WDA-1320?

Sep 11, 2011

I do recall being able to at least figure out Debian enough that I got my wireless working (a few years back). Today I popped in a fresh Live LXDE DVD. I can't find that my wireless is recognized, nor can I find any graphical network management utilities. Nothing network related. Perhaps its all in the command line, but I'm not too familiar with it (though I'm not averse to following instructions if I can use that to simply fix this issue).

I did look at documentation first. To the best of my ability anyway. I could not use it to help myself. Once I get internet working, at least I can trouble shoot on the Debian installation itself, which makes the process much easier. Having to switch out to a Windows installation is a pain.

Debian Configuration :: Live Migration To Ext3 To Ext4 On A LVM2 System

I have successful upgraded my system from Lenny to Squeeze and have even installed NVIDIA Driver successful, as well as other applications that I need. My system is now running smoothly and okey. My applications are also running smoothly except Skype 2.2 (Debian Forum Guys are currently helping me solve it).

However, I do want to upgrade my file system to ext4 in order to take its advance features and advantages especially that my system is now in WORK HORSE mode. However, I am not confident enough to do it because the guide is limited and does not tackle the issue of a system using ext3 with LVM2 on it.

Therefore, my question is how do I migrate (LIVE) my Ext3 to Ext4 on my system that uses LVM2? A clear and understandable guide is highly appreciated especially that I am newbie on it.
