I have installed Fedora 12 yesterday and the codecs sound today obtaining audio mp3. I have update kernel to 174 version and after restart I haven't sound. I saw a alert but I ignored it in which said something about a path deleted (i don't remember which). But in Preferences/Sound/Aplications i see that my reproductor is open.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am using fedora 12 (omega 12.1 remix), after installation I got very very low sound output and I dreaded it was to remain this way. Then I did some searching and found this command in a linux site 'alsamixer -c 0', I turned up everything and yippee I had sound. But now the problem is at each restart the settings are defaulted to a low output. How can I make the change permanent? Can I call alsamixer command and give 9-10 up keys as its input in bashrc. Well I am just guessing.

Pulse audio is for default, so I check Mi card Hd Nvidia and make the sound louder, but wend I shut down the PC and star up again, the settings are Low again. So I don't know how the set up the system to save the parameters.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu 10.04 on a dual-boot system with Windows 7. Yesterday I upgraded from 2.6.32-23 to 2.6.32-24. After that, pressing the shutdown button and selecting shutdown or restart (whether on the login page or after I've logged in) will only bring me back to the login page. I can shutdown or restart if I do sudo shutdown now, but I'd prefer to use the GUI. Also, there is no sound now (not a big deal, but still not good). And I can't access my storage partition (not the windows7 partition, but a third ntfs partition with data on it). I get the error message that I am unauthorized to mount. I have the only account on this computer, so I should be authorized. This one is a HUGE problem for me, because I need to be able to access my data for work. None of these were problems before the upgrade.
Oh yeah, and quickstart is not enabled. Also, if I go to Power Management, and try to alter what to do when Power Button is pressed, my only option is Ask Me. I know these have been problems/solutions to the shutdown/restart problem in the past.
I have just finished the upgrade of the latest version and I'm at the point of my system restating.
My system automatically tried to restart but on the restart I got the 'terminal' view. It stopped when asking for my username (it never normally asks for this before the grub menu) and then password. I didn't get any further than that.
I now have on my screen (still in the terminal view before the grub menu)

Installed Fedora 11 successfully, but I cannot get the MP3 files to produce sound.
Have tried the default configuration for sound, the Pulseaudio and the PulseAudioSoundServer.Installed and use KDE interface. Sound works for SKYPE (after selecting HDAIntel) and the Firefox 3.5 Beta 4.

Sound problems in Fedora 14.
Before Fedora 14 i have Fedora 12 and all was ok with sound. Starting with root account surprize i have sound. But after playing a song in xmms, sound is dead. I have tested sound in Windows and is ok.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is a really weird issue. I'm using 10.04 and on occasion when I boot into Ubuntu the sound doesn't work along with losing the ability to shutdown via the menu. When I click shutdown it just logs out. I need to shut down my PC by using the terminal.
It's strange because the sound and shutdown work as expected most of the time. The issue is seemingly random.
I have a problem with the openoffice 3.1, install it and I worked fine in Fedora 14, but I restart the system and no longer works. nothing happens with any file.

I use headphones and have an MCP73 sound device; am running OpenSUSE 11.4.
On each restart, I get no sound. I have to go to YAST, Hardware, Sound, Other, Volume. The 'Other channels', Front slider is at 0%. If I slide it up to 100%, my headphones start working. At this point the Help text says to press 'Next' to save the settings, but there isn't a 'Next' button...just a Cancel and OK. OK keeps the new setting, but apparently doesn't save it permanently.
What can I do to avoid having to reset this slider every time ?
just installed ubuntu 10.04.1 after using ultimate for abit but having sound issues which i thought could have been os based.Sound works fine from boot and continues fine until i open options and try to configure my mic settings, i get like maybe 5 secs to make adjustments then all my sound dies totally. The icon then shows as speaker with 3 lines next to it and within the configuration for sound my mic hardware vanashes. I cannot get any sound until i restart my computer and so cannot use apps like skype which i do tend too use alot.

I can connect to my network (WEP 128bit key) and acquire an IP address without any problems. But as soon as it connects it stops talking to the router (about 4 pings after it connects). The pings then change from a reply to saying "Destination host unreachable", even though it works fine on the Windows box I'm sending this from.

View 10 Replies View RelatedFor some time now, my laptop makes a quick but loud buzz sound when I shutdown or restart it. Muting my sounds doesn't fix it. Before, it didn't do this. It just started one day and got worse till it happened everytime I shutdown or restart.
Going to preferences > sounds > changing sound theme to no sounds helped a bit and after doing this, it doesn't happen all the time anymore. This is quite disturbing especially when I'm in libraries. What worries me the most though is that it might affect my speaker.
I'm using Karmic btw.
I have an icon for what seems to be universal access preferences modifying that is residing near my notification area on top GNOME panel. I have been trying to figure out how to get rid of it, but can't seem to. I took the program off of autostart apps, and have checked running processes to see if I could find which program has it going but I have exhausted my limited knowledge base in solving this.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThough I kinda do wish that I could just fully migrate to Fedora (or Linux in general), I still do need Vista for some things (like, until I can get this mess with my tablet and speakers sorted out). However, when I tried to boot into Vista this morning (by selecting "other" in GRUB) it said "BTMNGR is missing. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to restart."
Will I have to use the Vista Home Premium installation disc to fix this? Surely, telling it to automatically fix startup problems would work, right? I'll try later today PS This problem could also be related to my other 'yum update' problems. All of my problems started when I performed a whole kernel update, so that could also be why I can't boot into vista.

IIRC the key step in F8 was to select ALSA instead of OSS drivers, or vice versa (I forget which), but that option doesn't seem to exist any more.Since installing F12 I get no sound at all (works fine in Windows). I see a number of threads on this topic in various forums, the most informative I've found being URL... I've checked all the settings mentioned in that thread, but nothing seems to be wrong. Here are a few details of my set-up:
If I run RhythmBox everything seems to work. RhythmBox itself behaves as if it plays and the volume meter shows sensible varying levels of sound. But my speakers don't make any sound at all. All other apps I've tried behave similarly.
I found several occurences of this problem, but all the fixes were in ubuntu.. Anyway, Ive been trying to get ePSXe to work, and I finaly got it runnin, but found out that I had no sound when I load an ISO. So I looked into OSS. I downloaded the latest rpm that I could find and installed it. From what I read I get the feeling that that isnt how I should have done it. Anyway, once I installed it, I had sound for ePSXe, and flash, but nothing else. Im not exactly sure what happened. Im running FC13 btw.
