Fedora :: Boot Network Error After Graphic Driver Install
Mar 31, 2011
I tried to install the nvidia driver using yum. I had the nouveau graphic driver installed. I didn't follow any tutorial I just installed the nvidia driver over the installed one. Thinking that yum would take care of everything for me. When I rebooted I get as far as "registering binary handler for windows applications" I can still log on using alt+f2 and mount the file system using chroot but I cannot get any network access. When I use netstat -nr nothing is configured. I can't ping my router or any other computer on the network.I figure I should disable the nouveau driver and try to use the nvidia tutorial by leigh123linux to get the desktoop up again but I need net access to do that.I have no idea how to get that done. I have tried, ifdown/ifup, /etc/init.d/networks restart, service network stop/start/restart, ifconfig eth0.
i justy got me a dedi box and there is no graphic driver installed on it, or it dont work :/ VGA compatible controller: S3 Inc. VT8375 [ProSavage8 KM266/KL266] but wen i try installing enemy territory it comes back with error on graphic card
I am trying to install NVIDIA graphics drivers. I can execute the .run but it comes up with an error the X Server is in use and needs to be closed.
I have tried to run
Ctrl Alt Backspace
and
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
But the terminal requests the root password and I can not enter anything for the password in the line. If I go to the next line and enter anything the password fails.
i have this error message after configuring nvidia graphic driver. there is one line that says FAILED, i pray somebody to explain to me what it means and solution.

I found my fedora 9 GNOME gui is very very slow. Browser, editor everything ... when I type in the editor, the display is even slower than I type! I suspect maybe the graphic driver is not installed properly. Could someone point me where to star How do I check the graphic driver? If it needs update how do I do it?
I am new to linux. I install fedora 10 in text mode in my system. Because some drivers didn't support. I don't no know how to install supporting drivers. My system config. are Intel 945 mother board, 512 DDR2 RAM, 80GB IDE hard disk, P4 3GHz processor. When i try to install in graphics mode after disk checking i.e while anaconda is loading my monitor automatically turned off. So I recognized that problem with some driver. So I installed in text mode. Please tell me where do i get drivers for my system and how to install in my system. I don't have Internet connection for automatic installation using yum which was i found from linux forum so kindly tell me manual installation.
I installed XMBC and i keep getting this message "Error XBMC needs hardware accelerated OpenGL rendering. Install an appropirate graphic driver" i have a radeon 5750 hd graphics card. i updated the drive thru the website. but i keep getting this message.
So I finally got ubuntu..I wanted to play team fortress 2.Runs great in wine etc.But 1 problem. It keeps saying my graphic card is outdated.I cant see anything. So I downloaded the driver from nvidia website.Followed some instructions. But it says cannot open binary file or something. Is there any other way to update graphic drivers.Cause I realy still want to play some windows games.Mount&blade, Atlantica online, team fortress 2 etc
I just installed Debian 5 in my pc. I have made all the updates but my screen is a bit bright and the resolution isn't very good. I think that i need to install the graphic card driver but all the solution i find in google didn't work . My laptop is Toshiba satellite pro u400 and my card is Intel GMA 4500 MHD.
I installed openSuse 11.2 64bit (DVD version). Later I installed the graphic card driver. Then I noticed that it's not working well due to an improper installation (didn't use the manual that you provided here). So I uninstalled the driver. Then, after reboot, instead of a regular desktop, I get a CLI and I'm requested to enter my login information. But in the boot menu, if I enter to the failsafe option, then everything works fine. How can I change the CLI to the regular desktop?
could anybody tell me how to install fedora14 on X201, especially the video driver. Post added at 12:48 PM GMT Previous post was at 12:40 PM GMT it is Fedora14, i wrote the wrong title.
i tried to upgrade my geforce fx5700 driver. After upgrading i cant login. Before the login screen appears there is a black screen and when i type it writes first "^[[4~" and then i can write and nothing happens. I have two options in the bootloader : Fedora (2.6.31.12-174.2.3.fc12x86_64) and Fedora (2.6.31.5-127.fc12x86_64). I am afraid to kill the second konfig.
I have recently installed Centos. During the installation, I noticed that only sound was being tested during the installation. Once everything has been installed successfully. I can run Centos with no problem. However, when I tried to switch from one window (browser) to another. The display was slow. Thus, I suspected the driver for the graphic card of my PC is not being installed successfully. When I type /sbin/lspci | grep VGA in the terminal, I get the following output:
Then, I went to the dell support & driver site to download the driver. In the readme file, it is suggested to install dkms first before installing the graphics driver by typing rpm -ivh dkms-2.1.0.1-1.noarch.rpm
I managed to install the dkms without any error. However, when I use rpm to install the graphics driver as suggested by the readme file: rpm -ivh dell-nvidia-190.42-1dkms_rhel5.3.x86_64.rpm
I get the following errors: error: Failed dependencies: libX11.so.6()(64bit) is needed by dell-nvidia-190.42-1dkms_rhel5.3.x86_64 libXext.so.6()(64bit) is needed by dell-nvidia-190.42-1dkms_rhel5.3.x86_64[code]....
Since the above errors may be related to the missing packages then I use yum provides and install to find the missing packages. Even I try to install all the matched packages, i still cant install the driver for my graphic card. To be honest, i am not very sure whether I am doing the right things or not. how to solve this slow display problem when switching from one application to another.
I am attempting a Network installation of openSuse 11.3 on an old desktop which has IBM Boot Manager so that I can boot to one of three OSs, openSuse being the third. Sadly the installation of openSuse fails before the CD initial boot has finished. Looking at the text log of the starting process the problem appears to be a driver and the last line of text where it stalls refers to eata driver.
There are 4 hard drives in the machine, configured as two RAID 1 arrays driven by a DPT 2144W hardware raid card. (Very old but very good). If I Google eata I get a good deal on SCSI raid and DPT cards but I am out of my depth when they say a kernel module is needed.
Another concern is that the RAID arrays are configured using a bootable DOS configuration disk and once this is done they are recognized by other OSs such as eCS and OS/2. The arrays are just treated as single drives so these OS installations do not interfere with the card configuration. I am concerned because I cannot afford to lose the data on the drives but it appears the linux driver might want to rebuild the arrays.
I did a text installation of the Minimal Install CD of 9.10 (Karmic) and wound up with a console only. I installed Icewm, how to boot to graphic (GUI) mode.
I have downloaded fedora 10, i386 and right to DVD/UD using 4x write speed. I have one machine have installed win xp, now i want to over right here, when i select installation , its asking common questions like language, drivers, when i select from Local CD/DVD i got 'No Driver Found' Error.
After starting the Nvidia driver installer I get the error message "please exit x before installing". I read the manual page for X. From the console I typed X -terminate. I get the error message "Fatal server error" "Server is already active for display 0". how to exit from X.
While booting my fedora15, it gets stuck for about 5-6 minutes. Previously there was no problem. I don't know what made this problem. After going through the boot process, error occurred during network process. Using following command I got the result.
Code: # systemctl status network.service network.service - LSB: Bring up/down networking Loaded: loaded (/etc/rc.d/init.d/network) Active: failed since Sun, 05 Jun 2011 21:13:55 +0545; 11h ago Process: 845 ExecStart=/etc/rc.d/init.d/network start (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE) CGroup: name=systemd:/system/network.service
Also right after the long pause following messages are printed Code: 261.742053 usb4-1: device not accepting address 4 error -7 261.794087 hub4-0.1.0: unable to enumerate usb device on ports
I noted it down as soon as I saw the message after that long pause.
I'm trying to do a fresh install of fedora 12 on a Dell optiplex 380, using the fedora 12 i686 DVD. During the installation process I get a network driver installation error shown below. Anyone know how to resolve this?
This is my first attempt with Yum and Fedora for that matter. I need to load a print driver and network driver for an MX860 printer. I downloaded the drivers and they are in the download folder. When I try to install I get what is below. How do I resolve? Do I need to identify where the driver is? If so, how?
[compaq@compaq ~]$ su -c'yum install cnijfilter-mx860series-3.10-1-i386-rpm.tar.gz' Password: Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit updates/metalink | 15 kB 00:00 Setting up Install Process No package cnijfilter-mx860series-3.10-1-i386-rpm.tar.gz available. Nothing to do [compaq@compaq ~]$
In Fedora 10, I cannot get to the installer because it shows these messed up strips graphics (its not due to my graphic card, my graphic card is supported 7600gt) in non-quiet install it shows logical errors and i/o errors.
I've just installed Slackware 13.37 x64.Right now, everything is fine! All hardware OK, sound OK, Network/WiFi OK, nVIDIA Proprietary drivers OK, KDE Composite OK, Desktop effects OK.But when initializing, the messages pass very slow!My lilo framebuffer settings are 1024x768x64 (Code 791, 317 in Hex), my Graphics card is an nVIDIA GeForce 9100 M G (256Mb), but yet, I can see it refreshing like an image loading in 56Kbps connection. I really would like to use framebuffer during boot (Oh, come on... The little penguin is kinda neat :-), so I'll ask... Is there a way to use my graphic driver in framebuffer, or make it faster?
The platform I used is Intel Q45 chipset. But my customer insist on openSUSE version 10.2. The problem I met is that I cannot get any graphic driver for Q45 chipset upon openSUSE 10.2 developing.
I'm basic Ubuntu user. I got new notebook Acer 5745G with GeForce GT 330M. There is no problem installing Ubuntu. After that I'm installing the recommended Nvidia driver. Everything goes well until the system asks me to restart. I'm making restart and that's it. The loading screen is not showing so as the log in screen. And the solution for now is to uninstall and install Ubuntu again. I thing updating the graphic driver is necessary thing. Not sure if this is a bug, but for sure the system is not working after updating it.
