Apr 14, 2011I am trying to get DVDStyler (version 1.8.2.1) to work on my Arch system.As soon as I try to create an ISO, burn a DVD, etc, it crashes with the following message:

Jan 10, 2011I just did the pacman -Syu command today since i have had limited access to internet i could use with arch lately, (been tethering via droid which is only compatible in ubuntu) The command line works fine, i even reinstalled X to see if that was the problem,whenever i do startx it loads up for a second but before my xfce screen even pops up the screen blinks and blackens.

What I don't get are any
kernel-headers-<version>.<arch>.rpm
Files. Don't I need them to rebuild modules and drivers on System B? Otherwise, how should I copy my new headers to System B? BTW, System B crashes when I try to build the Kernel on it, that's why I'm building debugger Kernels on System A.

Sep 2, 2009My DVD will not play DVD's. I can only play cd's/music. The drop down box tells me that an additional plugin is required to play the dvd content and do I want to search for this now. Naturally I said yes. The next drop down box says that search could not find plugin in any configured software source. I have been to www.liba52.sourceforge.net and found ; a52dec-0.7.4.tar.gz I'm not too confident about using this, but have it in my 'home' file on the desktop. If anyone thinks it is ok, how to install it. If its not ok, can you tell me how I can obtain the appropriate plugin. I have Fedora 10 installed. The DVD is a Pioneer 104.

Apr 18, 2009I would like to try out fc10 on an old, k6-2 pc. Last night I tried to download the dvd, but firefox 'completed' the download with only 1.2/~3xg, and of course it didn't work.
I am trying a test net installation in VirtualBox, so far so good.
However, I would rather have a more complete installation on hand and I'm looking at the full install cd's --there are 6 of them.

Are all 6 required for a minimal install, or could I get by with one (or two, etc)? For example, with debian installation cds you can use just the first one -- the rest are just a complete set of packages for everything +kitchen sink.

Nov 22, 2009While doing some basic tweaks, nautilus, panel, display etc I got a pop-up: Additional Firmware Required "to make hardware in this computer function correctly". No more detail than that. Like signing a blank check so I said "go for it". When I rebooted the display was hosed. Like the refresh rate was wrong. So off to xorg.conf to fix it. There is no xorg.conf. After four hours of searching forums and google I gave up and reinstalled (only an hour). This time I made a backup (cp -a) before letting F12 fix the non-existent problem. Tried again very carefully to be sure that what killed the display was the additional firmware. True. That kills my display. Only problem is the backup cp -a when copied back in would boot but would not let me log in!? I could boot "single" change the password, but it said that was already the password.
for me F12 is a "one-day-distro". I have multiple partitions with Ubuntu, Mandriva, SuSE, Slitaz ... My first Linux was Fedora Core 4 and I will try the next Fedora release. For now back to Ubuntu 9.04. I'm still testing 9.10. My graphics is on-board Intel. I think it's 965G chipset. This is a Dell E520N. How would I tell what not to do that firmware addition?

It's set to install security updates automatically, and it notifies me when I log in via ssh whether it has installed an update which requires a reboot. For example, if it installed a kernel update a few days ago, the update manager will touch a "reboot_required" file in /var/run, and when I ssh into the machine today I'll be greeted with a "System restart required" message.
