Fedora Networking :: Two Identical Laptops With BCM4312 But Only One Detects ESSIDs

Jul 4, 2010

I've installed F13 on two Dell E6400 laptops, both with Broadcom BCM4312 wireless cards. After updating them both, I enabled the RPMFusion repos and installed the akmod-ed wireless driver on each (following these instructions: [URL] Wireless works perfectly on one laptop, but doesn't seem to be working on the other. The wl module is activated (shows up in lsmod) and the wireless card is enabled (wlan0 shows up in ifconfig), but Network Manager isn't showing any available networks. For the record, wireless works on both laptops with Ubuntu 9.10 I am going to try cloning the entire drive on the working laptop and sticking it on the dud one.

Fedora Networking :: Detects Wireless Networks But Cannot Connect?

Nov 29, 2010

Basically, I just installed Fedora in my desktop (use it on my laptop), and have a big problem, which is that Fedora (13), detects my wireless card (Edimax nMAX EW-7728IN), but when I try to connect to my wireless networks (WEP & WPA) it hangs and asks again for the password. I know the problem isn't from my routers, since I'm right now connected via Fedora 13 in my laptop.

Fedora Networking :: BCM4312 Not Working Under F11 With Fresh Install

Jun 12, 2009

Just tried new Fedora 11 yesterday, did a fresh install with ext3 /boot and ext4 file system, booting looks great, but wireless doesn't work. I have tried using broadcom-wl, dnmouse script, dnmouse broadcom f11 rpm, fwcutter but not ndiswrapper

Code:
# rpm -qa | grep broadcom
broadcom-wl-5.10.79.10-2.fc11.noarch

Code:
# lspci -nn
02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g [14e4:4315] (rev 01)

Code:
# lspci -vvv | grep 4312
02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company BCM4312 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller
ifconfig only shows eth0, lo and pan0 interfaces, and got nothing from iwconfig...

Code:
# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
pan0 no wireless extensions.

Even tried to blacklist b43 after installing broadcom-wl driver, but no luck. Broadcom-wl works fine with Fedora 10 on my laptop, is it possibly because of the new ext4 file system? Should I try ndiswrapper or install Fedora 10 again and do a preupgrade? I also use fedora at work.

Fedora Networking :: Cannot Get BCM4312 Wireless Card Working

Apr 9, 2010

I recently purchased an Acer eMachines E525 laptop, and currently have it dual booting Windows 7 and Fedora 12 x86_64 with the 2.6.31.5-127 kernel. I've been completely unable to get the wireless card working in Fedora (it works fine in windows).

lspci lists the following about the wireless card:
Code:
Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)
so I assume it's a BCM4312.

So far I have tried downloading the driver from [URL] and then trying to install it according to the accompanying readme file: [URL]. However, when I try to make the driver, I get the following message:

Code:
KBUILD_NOPEDANTIC=1 make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd`
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.32.10-90.fc12.x86_64/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
The Readme says that if I get this kind of error, I need to install the "kernel-devel" package, but I have this installed and it still returns the same error.

I have also tried following the fw-cutter instructions for fedora from [URL], but it still doesn't work. I realise there's the option of using ndiswrapper, but I gave that a shot with Fedora 11 on the same machine and had no luck, and I'd really like to see whether any of the other options work before going down that route.

I am using a laptop with a realtek8139 integrated adapter. When I boot the live cd (Puppy), I go to configure the internet connection, and shows the module for the card has automatically loaded, and I just set it to DHCP and that is all. After installing the os, however, I go to configure the connection, and it tells me that no module has been loaded, so I should manually choose from the list. When I do, it tells me that it failed to load. I have also tried allowing it to probe by loading every possible driver, to no avail. I have reinstalled the os twice, and it does not recognize the adapter, but when I boot live, it works fine. Any reason why it would do this?

Networking :: Using Iptables To Route/forward To Identical LANs?

Jul 18, 2011

The goal is to make connection calls (ssh, ping, ...) possible from one LAN (LAN-1) to a number of (at the moment two) separate smaller LANs.These smaller LANs (LAN-2a, LAN-2b, ...) have exact same specifications (same IP range, same number of nodes, ...)!The idea is to use a Fedora box (release 14 with 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686) and implement an appropriate iptables routing/forwarding.The Fedora box has three network interfaces:

- eth0 (aaa.bbb.ccc.m) on LAN-1 (aaa.bbb.ccc.0/24)
- eth1 (ddd.eee.fff.n) on LAN-2a (ddd.eee.fff.0/27)
- eth2 (ddd.eee.fff.p) on LAN-2b (ddd.eee.fff.0/27)

Networking :: Finding A Method That Successfully Detects And Connects To Samba Shares Without Having To Resort To CLI?

Jun 28, 2010

I do not have any shares setup on my home network so this has never been a big deal to me. My mother finally took enough interest in my operating system to allow me to dual boot 3 of her computers. Everything was up and running like a charm and then she asked "What about connecting to the file server?"

I click on "network" under nautilus and start clicking around - no where in here is the file server that every Windows system on the network can see (5 or so other systems with xp/vista/7 on them - so I know the share works). A small bit of time and some command life foo later I had hunted down and manually mounted the share and added and fstab entry for the drive so my mother would never have to go through that on her own.

That being said - did I do things the hardway here? Can someone please tell me there is an easy method that successfully detects and connects to samba shares without having to resort to CLI? Personally I do not mind doing this, but it is an issue when I am installing Linux for a beginner.

Networking :: Drivers For Wireless And Wired On New Laptops?

Sep 17, 2010

The fallacy in moving from desktops using PCI (etc) devices which have a history of available wireless and/or wired drivers is simply that one reaches a level of technology in modern laptops wherein drivers used by the devices in those laptops running Win7 are simply difficult to find for Linux OSs.

I purchased a Toshiba L500 (64 bit) which ran Win7 Home Premium; I wiped the HD and installed Windows 32 bit Pro. Runs like a top. Even after I installed Win 7 Pro, I had to search back on the Toshiba site for the wireless and Lan drivers to reinstall. I then installed Fedora 13 which gives me use of Win7 but also Fedora; However, does anyone know where there is a copy of an rpm driver (or for that matter a deb driver) for the following; 1. Atheros AR8152 PCI-E Fast ethernet controller and, 2. the Realtek RTL8191SE Wireless Lan 802.11n PCI-E NIC?

Obviously, without the availability of online status for Linux on Laptops, Linux becomes a useless paperweight and I have a very fast new Win7 Pro machine.
