I am using Fedora 12 with HP 1020 Laser Jet. Plugged printer in and installed it. Now it doesn't want to print, it gives me a printer state message: /usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups failed.
I have tried to reinstall hplip but it is the same.
F12 64 bit machine, connects to a Windows share to which a HP PSC 1210 is connected through a USB connection. Printer is set to share, nicknamed "Asterix". When the printer is set up through F12, I select under Network printer "Windows printer via Samba". I browse, find the printer, and click verify. The printer is accessible. Then I finish the installation, ordering a test print. Here the strange things start happening (attached some screenshots to back the story up).
1) No error messages appear that I can find. No cups-errors, no other errors pop up on the F12 machine. The print appears and disappears from the "Document Print Status (Asterix)" window. Only on the Printer Properties page do I see something strange: Printer state: Idle - procession page 2.
2) In the Windows machine, I also can't find any error messages. The print appears in the Printer list, and stays there. The printer comes to life, checks its cartridges, rolls some wheels, and then decides to do nothing more. When I select the print and click on Properties, the default priority is 1, but when I move it up to 99, nothing changes. The only strange thing here is, that the document, according to the Windoze machine, has 0 pages, yet is some 20MB.
And nothing ever happens.
Things I think it's not:
Firewall issue. The print obviously slips through to the other end.
Faulty driver issue. Directly from the Windoze machine, and if plugged into the USB of the F12 machine, does it print perfectly fine.

I can start this from the command line and it shows no errors.
httpd -t --- syntax ok.
no entry in the httpd error logs.
chkconfig reports it as on.
service --status-all shows this --

After a reinstall I finally caught this in /var/log/messages

The httpd.service file does not exist on the system. Where can I get a copy?
hi, first i'd like to say that i'm totally new to linux, i was allways using windows.
as i was allways unable to install a good and stable ssh-server on windows, i thought it is time to change to linux. i was able to set up and configure a ssh-server on debian but found out, that fedora 15 looks more userfriendly in first place for me. but now i unfortunately experience problems..
the ssh server was already installed, i changed the service setting to that it starts automatically but after i succesfully connected to the LAN, i cannot access the shh via putty for instance. when i type "service sshd status" it says beside other things: active (running). but when i look at the /var/log/messages, it says those two lines:
sshd.service: main process exited, code=exited, status=255
Unit sshd.service entered failed state.
i searched on google without success, the only thing i found was that someone had the same problem with a bad sshd_config file, but i'm pretty sure that everything is alright with my config-file (i checked it several times).
beside this i cant login on the gui, after the firefox update (??) it always says: a problem has occured and the system can't recover bla bla... so i can only use fedora right now commandline-based.. but with this problem i will deal later on...
I am using a Toshiba Satellite with an HP Officejet7410. I installed the printer last night, printed a test page and went to bed smiling. This morning, I try to print and nothing. Fedora see the printer, but keeps saying it is paused or is not connected. The test page printed out the following.

I installed NXSERVER - Version 3.2.0-74-SVN OS (GPL, using backend: 3.3.0) but when i used nxclient to connect to the server i always got 'session x' failed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHere's the background info -- I recently installed Ubuntu server 8.04 on TWO machines that are exactly identical.On one machine, all seems perfect.On the other, when I execute "/etc/init.d/samba status" it always shows that smbd is NOT running.But it would seem that it IS running, since I can access the shares I've set up without difficulty either from smbclient on the server or from the windows boxes on the network.ps ax lists smbd as a process as well.The log tells me nothing -- it just reports that samba started. No errors. Not much of anything in there. And if I execute smbstatus, that works just like you'd expect.since the two machines are identical (and I mean exactly the same), and only one is doing this.
I guess I should be happy since they both work (seemingly perfectly).But it still bothers me that I'm getting the message that smbd isn't running on one of them. I tried uninstalling samba and reinstalling it on the machine giving me the erroneous (?) status message. But that changed nothing.Right now there's no data on the machine, and it's not in production, so just doing a bare metal reinstall of the OS is an option. But I'd like to understand what's happening.
Today, I finished assembling my dream computer. I can boot it into the BIOS, and I checked that everything was working correctly through there. Anyway, I attempted to transfer the hard drive from this computer to that one. This computer is a Dell (blech) Optiplex GX280 with an Intel processor and integrated graphics. The new one has an AMD Phenom II processor with an ATI card and an ASRock motherboard (drastically different machines, I know...) When I try to boot, GRUB gives me an error message that says something like:

Did I do something wrong installing the hard drive? Or is this a problem that is going to happen no matter how hard I try to make it not happen? If the second is true, will it help if I wipe the disk and reinstall Ubuntu on the new computer?
P.S. I know similar threads about transferring hard disks have been posted, but no thread has mentioned this error.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy network printer HP Color LaserJet 2605dn works fine with Ubuntu, Windows XP, Fedora 9 ... but not with Fedora 14 (2.6.35.12-90.fc14.x86_64). All printouts look like this:

The list of HP printer models on Fedora 9 has "Color LaserJet 2605", and it workes fine.
However on Fedora 14 the model is no longer in the list. I tried "Color LaserJet" and "Color LaserJet 2500" but the printout results were always corrupt.

I just having to do a fresh install and get the following message to close after setting up
partitions and on clicking write to disk:
Failed to mount "524M Volume"
Method "Mount" with signature "ssas" on interface
"org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" doesn't exist.
Only option under message is close button. I'm using Fedora 14 xfce 32bit live CD. The install seems to carry on normally until done but then when I check the partitions I've setup I seem to only have the origonal uneditted default partitions.
I ran the 11.04 upgrade. At the end, it reported a failure, implied a recovery would occur and the upgrade then finished. The recovery was supposed to have run sudo dpkg --configure -a. That does not appear to have happened. I am concerned that a reboot will render my system inoperative.Has anyone else experienced a similar issue or have any suggestions? What information should I provide. report.

pa_stream_writable_size() failed: Connection terminated
The .mov file is wide screen, I am not sure if that's why the error occurred. By the way, the .mov file is several hundred megabytes and store on DVD.

I have a FC11 box, with an HP prineter attached. I trying to print from my laptops after I have setup samba and shared the printer , It was working fine when I was installing FC4 and FC5. I am not sure what is missing. when I tried to print from the XP box I got "Test pge failed to print" error.

Is there something I need to enable on the server or my OS(CIFS or something)?
It's been awhile since I posted anything which is a good sign my install has been working well and I have been able to handle most everything. However, I'm not able to handle this issue. I recently installed F11 and everything went well. But, when trying to see my other computers on the local network, I cannot. I receive this error message: Unable to mount location Failed to receive shared list from server. I understand the message as it is obvious, but do not know how to fix it.

I have some thinstations booting over the network after the update the boot failed with the message "TFTP open timeout". I use an "ip alias" (cluster adress) for the tftp server (next-server in the dhcp), when I use the real ip I have no problem. I found some information about a "Service Guard environment" and an option to enable it:
"This option is required for some tftp clients. These clients reject the tftp reply received from a different IP address than the one requested when the server?s interface is configured with an alias IP address." I do not see an option like that in the tftpd server of the FC15.
System: F15-64bit, Intel Core i7 on Asus P6T mobo. I've upgraded to 2.6.40, and I'm regretting it!While 2.6.38 still works fine (apart from the usual random panics), 2.6.40 gives errors on boot, and reliably panics soon after login. Early in the boot I get the message "IOMMU: mapping reserved region failed" 8 times. Then boot appears to proceed as normal, at least once the nvidia blob is removed in favour of Nouveau (otherwise, forget it...).
After graphical login, the system freezes within a couple of minutes.After a text login, the system freezes within seconds with a panic, starting "BUG: Scheduling while atomic: swapper". View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem trying to set up my HP OfficeJet 6310 printer with Fedora 12. This is with a clean install, SELinux disabled and Seems to be some issue specific to Fedora, as I've used the same setup with the same hardware without problems in other distributions. I have installed all the HP files I believe should be installed. Anyway, my printer is on my wireless network. I can see the printer on the network, as is the case with my other computers.
I followed the standard setup I use with any other distro....open a terminal and enter "hp-setup." The HP Setup utility opens and I go through the standard procedure of choosing /Network/Ethernet" as my means of connecting. Moving on, the HP OfficeJet 6310 is found without a problem. When I attempt to "Add Printer," however, I am then getting an error. The error shows, "Printer Queue Setup Failed. Restart CUPS and try again." Looking at [URL], I get to CUPS but can get nothing there so far as a printer goes.
I have been trying to add the Canon Pixmar MG5150 printer to my Fedora 13 setup. I downloaded the drivers and installed them but I keep getting an error saying the pstocanonij failed.
